Full of character!!

angusyoko Hong Kong
Review Submitted: November 3, 2009 Date of Stay: October 2009
My wife, her brother and I stayed here during the last week of October - through Halloween for a week long holiday. We're based in Hong Kong and wanted a more authentic NY experience so were really happy when we found this place on the web.

Was actually a lot bigger than I expected and a real home away from home. Kate and Brian were fantastic and the flat was very cosy and well equipped. Loved the well stocked fridge on arrival and the NY themed DVD collection - enjoyed watching Sex and the City episodes and checking out where we had been! A very nice touch!

Loved the neighbourhood - was calm and tranquil and full of character. Staying in a brownstone was certainly a much better and more memorable experience than staying in some crummy tourist trap in Manhattan! And it was only a 3 minute walk to the subway and a twenty minute ride into town.

The Italian restaurant recommended by Brian and Kate was fantastic. Also went for a quick breakfast at the nearby cafe Bread Stuy. Will definitely recommend to friends - a much better option than staying in some hotel.

"My wife and friends after a long road trip arrived late in the evening to the property we rented for the Canadian thanksgiving long weekend. We were warmly greeted by Kate & Brian and promptly shown to our suite where we found a very spacious 1 bedroom that easily accomodated 4 people.
Our hosts then arrived with a wonderful dinner that included chicken scaloppine, salad, french bread and fresh fruit topped off with a bottle of wine! What a lovely surprise. The bedroom was very large and the beddng was very comfortable. The pullout sofa in the living room converted into a kingsize bed and the kitchen was fully loaded if someone needed to prepare a meal. The neighborhood was nice with the old style brownstone buildings and Brian had prepared maps for us upon arrival so we could easily make our way around the neighbourhood and the subway which was 2 blocks away was something we used daily. Overall we had an excellent time and based on the price and the type of accommodation, we would definitely return.
Thanks Kate & Brian for all your help and warm hospitality!!"

We had a great time! Sunny apartment was clean, beautiful, everything looked just like the photos. It was really easy to get into Manhattan on the A train too. Brian and Kate live downstairs and were really helpful, they even left Brooklyn lager beer for us in the fridge. There's a very cool coffee shop hangout and Italian pizzeria in this neighborhood too. We'll be back!
