Our 10th trip to Anguilla and we have found our new home. The Penthouse is spacious and comfortable with panoramic views of the Atlantic. Overlooking Shoal Bay East, one of the most beautiful of the many stunning beaches on the island, the location is a bit out of the way but nothing is too far away on Anguilla. You need a car anyway (unless you stay stuck in a hotel) so here you are closer to the east end and a little further from the west. The kitchen has just enough equipment to cook basic meals; the wall of French doors letting in the breeze and the open floor plan give the whole place an airy feel. The deck is spectacular at all times of day. The bed is comfortable and the bathroom is roomy. We hope to be back soon!
Just the name Villa Mimosa puts you in the right frame of mind for vacation. The view and the deck are mesmerizing. It's hard to pull yourself away to explore this wonderful island. The villa is perfect for two. It has everything you need and being able to open the three French doors everyday and enjoy the view, hear the sounds of the ocean and smell the fresh air is amazing. You need a car, but you can get everywhere easily. Definitely a yes. Trenton and Evett are there when you you need them.
My wife and I spent an indescribable eight days at “The Penthouse.” Everything about it was ideal. Compliments to the owner, Mary Ann, and her supporting team (“Junior,” our local contact for everything; “Yvette,” our respectful and caring housekeeper, and “Kevin,” our rental car provider) for making the visit so special. From the initial email contact with Mary Ann, through to our reluctant departure, everything was handled with such style and distinction that it was remarkable. Our comments, in no particular order:
We spent more of our onsite waking time on the porch than indoors, and almost always had the patio doors opened fully. The porch provides privacy and a stunning view. Other locations on the island have their views of St Maarten, but we preferred ours of nothing but blue waters and waves breaking over shoals.
We both loved the bathroom/shower room/dressing room’s size and openness. It pleasingly complements the rest of the home. The space is more than ample for two.
The kitchen provided everything that we needed. We chose to make our own morning meals from goodies obtained from nearby “Le Bon Pain”, and the grocery store (“Best Buy” was our store of choice.)
We echo another reviewer’s praise of the bed’s comfort. This is very important, and one of us is a little “fussy” about beds other than his own. (Oops, I guess I just confessed which one I am.) We will miss the sounds of the breezes, the roosters, the sea, and even the rain. A wonderful feature of the entire penthouse is the exposed ceiling beams of natural native white cedar which contributes to the airy ambiance.
The property is gated, which gives a feel of exclusivity; this is yet another sign of the privacy afforded by the location. The property is exquisitely landscaped and obviously maintained on a constant basis.
The walk to Shoal Bay Beach is easy and requires foot coverings. Once you descend to the beach, your sandals can be removed until returning.
Countless times we walked to SBE to swim/snorkel/lime. Our favorite of the beach bars was “Madeariman” with the amiable Janette tending. Her version of the ubiquitous Rum Punch was the best and most palatable. Gwen’s version was just too much alcohol for our taste; not to say it wasn’t good. To reemphasize, the “busy” part of SBE was an enjoyable walk along the primarily deserted spectacular beach. In summary, we highly recommend this property. We will return as soon as possible.
We loved our stay at Mimosa. Mary Ann was very helpful and easy to deal with and everyone on her team was professional, helpful and friendly. We arrived a day ahead of our scheduled arrival date to escape a New England Blizzard and Mary Ann and her team graciously moved all our reservations a day earlier than planned. We really appreciated their efforts and flexibility. Mimosa has a fantastic outdoor balcony/patio that is well equipped with a grill, comfortable loungers and umbrellas and the view is amazing. The house is clean, the bed comfortable, the couch made me feel right at home. The beach is a 5 minute walk down a path between this property and Serenity next door. The beach is beautiful and uncrowded and there are several restaurants within walking distance on the beach (by day). This was our first trip to Anguilla and the Anguillans impressed me with their friendly and helpful nature. Our two favorite restaurants were Roys and Monoah. We rented a car for a few days to explore the island (loved Rendevous Bay too) and restaurants and I would recommend a car. Mimosa is on the quiet end of the island. You won't be disappointed!
The Penthouse was perfect for my husband and I. We loved being able to have all the French doors wide open and waking up to the view of the ocean. In addition to the well furnished apartment, the bed is even comfortable! The view is spectacular and Shoal Bay beach is equally spectacular. Charlene and Junior manage the Penthouse and are very attentive and enjoyable. Be sure to spend a Sunday and enjoy the music at Johnno's Beach bar (Sandy Ground) and Gwen's Reggae Bar. (A very short walk down Shoal beach). Don't miss the $5 Crayfish On Sunday at On-Da-Rocks. We loved everything about our stay and will be returning.
Our stay at Villa Mimosa went beyond our expectations! Not only was the Villa beautiful and private, but we learned a lot about the island thanks to Junior and Charlene, and this really made us feel at home. We loved the beautiful patio and used the grill to cook fresh lobster that Junior arranged via local fishermen. We loved the comfortable bed and the kitchen was filled with mostly what we needed. The bathroom was a pleasure as were the ample closets and safe provided. Evette provided us with the towels we needed and her caring touch. We are looking forward to another stay at Villa Mimosa!
