Niseko is located on the North island of Hokkaido, Japan - near the international airport of Sapporo. It was originally a thermal spring spa resort known only to the local Japanese, but was eventually discovered by outsiders looking for the perfect snow experience. Niseko is now famous around the world for its exceptional powder snow. From December to April each year the resort is covered in a blanket of up to 15 metres of pristine powder snow. There are over 50 kms (30 miles) of groomed slopes across four linked resorts: Hirafu, Hanazono, An'nupuri and Higashiyama.
Niseko is now one of the fastest growing ski resorts in the world, and at the heart of Niseko is Hirafu, the best appointed village in the area. With its unique Japanese character and mix of international influences, Hirafu offers an experience not found anywhere else in the world. English is widely spoken as the resort was founded primarily by Australians looking for powder snow in their Summer period.

I am in my 50's and live in Australia.
I bought this apartment in Japan to take advantage of the amazing powder snow during the Australian Summer period (Dec-April) and because I really enjoy the Japanese cultural experience - especially the food! My teenage year old daughter also loves it.
Apart from the snow sports, there is nothing more enjoyable than soaking in a traditional Japanese onsen (natural thermal hot pools) followed by a traditional Japanese meal of sushi, teriyaki, yakitori, etc... The views of Mt. Youtei (an extinct volcano similar in size and shape to Mt Fuji) are spectacular.
Niseko is the centre of powder snow skiing in the Northern Winter (Dec to April). In addition to the many skiing options there are fabulous restaurants, onsens (thermal hot pools) and bars - plenty to see and do. It is also a beautiful area to visit in Spring, Summer and Fall if you like stunning rural scenery, golf, cycling, fly fishing, white water rafting. Plenty of local festivals to choose from.
