About Diane Stevenson

This picture is of me and my dog, Amy, as we were resting on the large rock outcropping that overlooks the American River canyon on our way down the Pickering Bar trail.

Diane Stevenson purchased this house in 2005

Why Diane Stevenson chose Grass Valley

We bought this as our family compound, but as lives change, so did ours. Using this home as a vacation rental has helped me to finance my son's college education. I have also been able to donate weekly reservations to the numerous good causes, including the Down's Buddy Walk and numerous fund raisers for the families of Cancer patients. I move in myself when we have company from out of town and pretend that I am 'on vacation' too! It's great!

What makes this house unique

I love hiking down into the 'diggings', exploring the old gold mining areas, swimming in the mountain lakes, sitting in the spa under the stars and just enjoying the quiet solitude of this gorgeous and peaceful setting.

Guestbook comments from the owner

My family stayed at this site for a 3 day weekend. I specified to Diane that there were 3 toddlers under the age of 3 years old. The house and surroundings are not safe for toddlers, making for a stressful vacation. Additionally, advertised as a 3+ bedroom, the house is a 2 bedroom plus loft. Not up to my families standard for cleanliness. The "pond" is really best described as a pit literally teeming with mosquito larvae. Diane, the owner, is a nice women but her advertising of the home leaves much to be desired.

Gold run Moutain house

  • 5 of 5

Diane was extremely friendly upon arrival and departure, besides that we didn't see anyone for the duration of the stay, the trails are beautiful, the spa relaxing, and the out door shower was amazing. Everything we needed was available. We will be back regularly.

Thanks diane

Bachelorette party getaway - perfect remote location

  • 5 of 5

I rented this home in Spring for a bachelorette party. When I told the owner what it was for, she was completely fine with it. There were about 15 of us and I wanted a place that would be remote enough that we wouldn’t need to worry about noise levels and neighbors. I was concerned at first when I read the owner lived on the property, but we still had complete privacy and Diane only came around to greet us upon arrival and departure and was quick to respond if we had questions or concerns. Otherwise we never saw her and she said she barely heard us. There was PLENTY of space to sleep all of us comfortably with the various rooms, beds, sofas, pads, etc. There are some different hikes you can go on and Diane was kind enough to draw a map of the places and told us approximately how long the hikes were. A group of us walked to the old miners cabin and back. It took a few hours round-trip because we strolled and took pictures. Definitely bring water/snacks/good shoes. It’s a fun adventure and is so gorgeous. There's also an AWESOME outdoor (and completely private!) hot water shower with a view that I highly recommend trying. It's great to use before and/or after the hot tub.

I would definitely rent this place again in the future. It’s a GORGEOUS area, is reasonably priced, the rental home is cozy and comfortable and Diane was wonderful to work with when renting this place.

Amazing weekend getaway.

  • 5 of 5

3 of my girlfriends and I came here for 2 days and 2 nights and didn't want to leave! The hiking trails are beautiful and the cabin was so cozy. Diane was a wonderful host and very accommodating. Great location and perfect for getting away from it all. Will definitely be returning!

Holiday Getaway

  • 4 of 5

This mountain cabin is quiet, located away from civilization, yet convenient--only a few miles from the freeway. Nice hikes from the cabin. Lots of sleeping accommodations, though only 1 shower. The house is well-stocked and has nice amenities. We were grateful for the efficient wood stove and the generously supplied wood. The owner lives on the property, but you see her only when you need something; she is very responsive. It's not quite as luxurious as appears in the photos, but is comfortable and enjoyable.

Wonderful Secluded Lodge with Great Stars and Hiking

  • 5 of 5

We had a 10 day family stay at this peaceful lodge in mid-winter. Only 5 minutes from I-80 (but no noise drifting in). Incredible stars through the trees at night from the deck and hot tub/spa. Really enjoyed the other amenities, excellent cooking facilities (especially large stove top griddle for pancakes), ping pong table, Master Bedroom Gas Fireplace--lovely to just flip a switch and have a warming fire in the early mornings, and then there was the wood stove in the living room for daytime and evening warmth--lots of firewood provided.

House was clean and very well equipped, lots of books for reading, TV etc. Comfortable bedrooms with an upstairs dormitory type space under the eaves best suited for the smaller kids, though I did sleep there a couple of nights when we had a lot of people--taller folks need to watch out and stay low.

Excellent hiking out the front door to spectacular American River views from rock outcroppings about a 40 minute jaunt away. Though it was January there were several days in the high 60's, and yet Sugar Bowl Ski area was only about 40 minutes away--that was a big plus for us as skiers. And though Colfax isn't that far at 15 minutes or so with supermarket etc, there's the Monte Vista Inn, an excellent rustic restaurant, less than minutes away in Dutch Flat.

Owner Diane is very helpful with tips about hiking and all things local, her house is quite close but they way the two houses are arranged there's still good privacy for the rental unit And the dogs are great hiking companions and guides! Highly recommended!

Thanksgiving reunion in the pines.

  • 5 of 5

What a fabulous location to have a reunion with family ages 2 to 72. From all the amenities inside: our crew loved the ping pong, all the books & games, comfortable beds (even a waterbed in the loft), great kitchen, cozy living room & more. Outside was great too with a huge deck, spa, horseshoes & an awesome outdoor shower. We created a long table with three tables put together to serve 18 people Thanksgiving dinner. With perfect weather we enjoyed one of the many local hikes to the tunnel. We even took my sis in a wheelchair to the overlook up the road. All was good!!!
