This is a ten acre property nestled in the foothills of Yosemite bordered by a 1300 acre timber preserve. It has two homes on it, a three bedroom (currently occupied year-round)and this cabin that sit approximately 600 feet apart. It has a natural spring and numerous mature Ponderosa pine, oak (several varieties) and cedar trees. Wild berries grow here seasonally near the spring runoff and seasonal creek.
It's not unusual to see a deer or several on the property (even does with their fawns) or a group of wild turkeys with their chicks grazing the fence line. You may just end up spending all of your time here catching up on reading, artwork, photography or even writing that novel you've always wanted to; the scenery and quiet are inspirational.
We(my husband and I) purchased this property as a retirement location. With its additional main house we thought it would be a perfect place to relax and enjoy our time. The air here is an important factor as we are from Southern California and can really appreciate the good clean air this location has to offer. We are horse enthusiasts and hoped to find some nice trails here in Mariposa, not to mention the good neighbors.
Alaina purchased this cabin in 2007
This cabin was originally built to accommodate the former owner while they built their larger home on the east end of the property. We sought out a property with a nice location for friends and family to enjoy their privacy while visiting us here. This cabin has the perfect setting with a huge old oak tree right out the front door and a small meadow where the seasonal creek pools before it runs any further. It never really occurs to us that it is only a one bedroom because there is so much else about this property to enjoy.
We are living on the property out of sight of the cabin but our horses are between us and the cabin so we are up and down daily. Although we live on the property, we still enjoy the serenity and beauty of this spot, we understand why the original builder/owner took over a year to move to the main house when it was completed. We moved here from a much busier place and are just amazed at how easy it is to adjust to moving here, it is like a vacation every day here.
We really enjoyed our stay at the lower meadow cabin.
The area is fantastic and if it hadn't been for the pesky (yet beautiful!) full moon!
The space is really big, especially as it was just the two of us. Both kitchen and bathroom are well equipped with everything one may need.
There was heating in the house, which is essential in the middle of the woods, and washer / dryer good and functional.
The house was clean, well maintained and the hosts left many instructions and tips so we could make the most out of it.
We recommend this place to anybody looking for few days in yosemite area!
We could not be happier with our stay at this lovely house. We were looking for a place that was away from the hustle and bustle of life and this cute little place fit our expectations exactly. The house was clean, tidy, and ready for guests. The owners were very friendly and easy to work with especially considering we placed our reservations the day before we arrived (thank you!). For two people, the 1bd/1bth felt very spacious with high ceilings and an open floor plan. We enjoyed sunny days listening to the birds, photographing the gorgeous trees & wildflowers, and watching the deer wander the property. Oh, and there is wifi that works great. We cannot wait to stay again and bring our dogs!
We had a fantastic week long stay in Lower Meadow cabin. What a peaceful and beautiful setting! We had deer visiting every morning and most evenings, right outside the front door by the big oak tree. It was lovely to watch them while having our breakfast. It was also fun watching the squirrels and the great variety of birdlime, including bluebirds, quails and woodpecker.
The cabin is very comfortable and spacious with plenty of cupboards and storage space. The weather was very hot when we were there and the cooling system worked perfectly and soon cooled the cabin down when we returned after being out all day.
We were prepared most of our meals in the kitchen, which was ideal after spending the day out sightseeing. The washing machine and dryer were also very useful, although the addition of an iron and ironing board would have been useful.
The location is perfect for visiting Yosemite and is about the same distance from the west or south entrance. It is good to try both routes if you have time as the scenery is completely different!
It is a 10-15 minute drive to Mariposa, a charming little town with shops, cafes and restaurants. If you have time visit the Old Courthouse and the Museum and History Center. The courthouse is the oldest operating one in California and is very interesting. Both places are well worth the visit.
The Pioneer Market in Mariposa is great for buying all your provisions. You can also buy food etc. at the Triangle Road store, which is only a mile away but not so much choice and a bit pricier, although gas is very cheap there. We also ate at the cafe there one night and the food was very good.
Call in at the Mariposa Coffee Company on your way back from Mariposa on the 49 just a few miles from the cabin. If you go when the coffee is being roasted the smell is amazing. We bought some of the 49er blend and it was very good!
For any railway enthusiasts, my husband found out about an old Shay logging locomotive, caboose and turntable just off the 140 at El Portal on the way to Yosemite. It is where the old railway used to run. It really was worth the few extra minutes on our journey to see it and it's free!
All in all, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this cabin and if we ever have the opportunity to visit the Yosemite area again, we would definitely choose to stay there again!
My husband and I stayed at this home this summer on an anniversary trip to California. It is located an easy 3-3.5 hours from San Francisco, which is where we flew in. We were pleasantly surprised to see that the town of Mariposa, which is about 15 minutes from the home, has everything you would need grocery-wise. It is not just a small market. We also ate at some good restaurants in town. There is a small gas station at the entrance to the lane, and it was the cheapest gas around--a real trip back through time but just what we needed. The home is hidden back a long lane, but it is very easy to find. It had everything we needed for our 5 night stay in Mariposa. We drove to Yosemite each day, and the location was perfect. We got to stay far away from the crowds at Yosemite and have a beautiful drive each day. The owner responded to our questions very quickly, and the communication was great. We were able to cook some meals at the home to save money, and the blankets and small coolers were helpful to borrow to use at Yosemite each day. Thank you so much for providing this perfect vacation home for us.
I came up here with my man and dog to hike the Hite Cove Trail, beautiful with wildflowers this time of year (end of March; will probably great for another couple weeks at least). We found another nice hike on the Merced River too. The hiking was a 1/2 hour or so stunning drive away. This little house was perfect to come back to in the evenings. It was very reasonably priced and had the perfect amount of space for a couple. It was comfortable, cozy, clean, quiet, private, and relaxing. The kitchen was well equipped (and I'm a pretty serious cook), the bed was comfortable, the heating was effective and comfy. I expected internet and didn't find evidence of any, but I ended up glad to not have it!
The owner was very easy to deal with, flexible, quick in her responses, and quick to process rental, deposit refund, etc.
I do recommend turning up the hot water heat when you arrive, as the owner will suggest if you rent this place.
My husband and I have stayed here twice, spring 2012 and winter 2013. The cabin is a welcome retreat combining the beauty of nature and comforts of home. Yosemite village is less than an hour away and minutes drive to charming downtown Mariposa. Looking forward to our next stay and visit with friendly owners and residents.
