Great Location, Utterly Charming, Romantic, Cozy

This adorable cottage is every bit as charming as it looks in the pictures. Its location couldn't be better. It's a breeze to get to from the San Diego airport, just off the main thoroughfare into La Jolla and within a block of La Jolla Cove, with amazing cliff walk, caves, beach, grassy park, lots of restaurants, galleries & shopping. The cottage is quiet, tucked back from the street in a 1924 complex of 8 identical Spanish style bungalows in a park-like setting. It has the best location at the rear of the property, with a long view of the central lawn punctuated by two large trees. The delightful owner has done a terrific job of updating the cottage while maintaining its 20's charm. The living room spanning the front of the cottage has the original built-in cabinetry at each end, with French doors on cupboards and several casement windows making the space feel airy and light. The front door and all windows have screens and there's a ceiling fan, so it should be really nice in warm weather. It was a bit cool while we were there, so we enjoyed the gas fireplace. The living room has two seating areas - one for reading with two armchairs, a "surfboard" floor lamp and a selection of books and guides. Built-ins include a desk, bookshelves and a closet for stashing suitcases. Across the room is the media area, with an ample plasma TV wall-mounted at just the right height, cable, WiFi, DVD player and a very comfortable 2-seater adjustable "lazy-boy" sofa with footrests. The big wicker basket coffee table holds cozy throws for snuggling. The well-equipped eat-in kitchen had everything we needed, including spices and cleaning supplies. The dining table was set with chic, white square plates. The kitchen window view was of the pretty, vine-covered wall of the private brick patio, furnished for sitting and dining. Comfortable bed, freshly tiled bathroom with vintage claw-foot tub (our favorite!), hardwood floors, everything spotlessly clean, freshly painted, brand new and beautiful. There's a grill, picnic basket, beach chairs and towels. Two Schwinn bikes, complete with helmet and basket, were a great bonus - we walked or biked everywhere this weekend. Supermarket is within walking distance (20 min?). Museum of Contemporary Art was terrific. Loved walking along the cliff north of the Cove. The owner was so friendly and helpful; her son lives in one of the cottages in the (unlikely!) case you need anything. Highly recommended for 1 or 2 people. 5 (sea) stars!
