Amazing location and breathtaking views! Nestled in the coastal foothills just off California Scenic Hwy 46 West - exactly halfway between the quaint artist village of Cambria (10 min.) and gateway to the spectacular Paso Robles/Templeton wine region (just outside your door).
Newly remodeled cottage from the ground up. Enjoy top of the line furnishings, amenities and touches that one would expect from a nationally renowned artist. The large master bedroom is a Southeast Asian retreat with unique pieces from Nepal and Thailand. The queen bedroom takes you back to early California. My wife and I recently stayed at this cottage for the third time, and it never disappoints. We refer to it as "the Dream House" because it's the best vacation rental we've ever had. The location is perfect: near the summit of the coast range, up on a hill overlooking a vineyard, off by itself; 10 minutes from Templeton and wineries and 10 minutes from the coast. So you're close to everything, but all you hear up there is the occasional distant cow. The house itself is ideal: the bed is incredibly comfortable, the kitchen is well outfitted, there's a gas grill--everything is well kept up and clean. Most of all: the owners are absolutely wonderful. Correspondence is reliable, professional, friendly. They give you plenty of space, but they become pals if you give them half a chance, and they provide all the information about the area you might possibly need. We always feel warmly welcomed when we arrive, and we're always sorry to have to leave. We love the central California coast for the hiking, the beaches, the wineries, and the rolling hills. But if we tried to plan a trip there and the Dream House weren't available, we probably wouldn't go. You'll fall in love with this place.
We had a little bit of heaven on the top of a hill. Our visit to this wonderful property was magical.
The views from the porch were awesome! We even saw Bald Eagles and a beautiful Red Tail Hawk. The location is great, so close to Cambria, Morro Bay and all the wineries around Paso Robles. The beds were so comforatble and the cottage was immaculate. The owners were so flexible and accommodating, we felt right at home. The hill makes for a vigorous morning walk pass the vineyards with the little birds scurrying across the path, including some wild turkeys!
We spent a day out to breakfast at the Cowgirl Cafe and a Farmers Market in downtown Paso Robles.
Lisa even shared fresh goodies from her garden. Our gatherings on the porch in the evening were so much fun. We hope to come back soon!
We managed to explore San Luis Obispo, Morro Bay and Cambria during the day but the best part was making it back to the cottage each afternoon for our own local wine tasting on the patio with our friends. What a beautiful home and peaceful setting... exactly as portrayed in the photos ... exactly what we needed :)
My husband and I stayed in this awesome cottage with another couple. It was a peaceful resort with gorgeous views! We were able to BBQ and sit out on the front porch while enjoying a nice glass of wine. While it was hot at the wineries, it was cool up at the cottage - yet still great weather to sit outside. Wifi and TV kept losing signal, but it was kind of nice to be off the grid for a weekend. We had an amazing weekend at the cottage!
Our annual ladies wine jaunt (just two gals in need of a break from the city). We come up every year and usually stay at area hotels. This time we decided to give this a whirl. Soooooo glad we did! The house is situated right in the middle of wine country, so it is very convenient to tastings. We did not have an agenda so we just let our stay "unfold." Lisa gave us some wonderful suggestions, and we read guests recommendations...and every winery, restaurant, or trek we took turned out fabulous. The house has such a lovely feel to it, and we found ourselves just hanging out half the time.
We will definitely be going back. Thanks Lisa for your "perfect day" suggestion....it was just that!
This place is great, full stop.
The Retreat is well laid out for a couple to sprawl (two couples or a family would have to share the single bathroom), there are great views (you can see the fog roll up the valley), the sectional couches are leg-stretchingly supportive, and the beds and sheets are super-comfy. If you are trying to shed writer's block, or have a romantic getaway, or want a home base from which to launch some serious wine tasting, this is the place. Lisa and Randy may call it a retreat, or a cottage, but the actual size is that of a small house. Plenty of room.
If the night is clear, city slickers will appreciate just how pitch-black the night sky becomes. Looking up to see the slash of the Milky Way as the backdrop for the thousands of stars will make you almost dizzy. I can't remember the last time I saw a night sky like this. If you are staying in Paso proper, you won't get this view.
Just a couple things for first-time visitors:
1. The Retreat is located equidistant from Paso and Morro Bay, about 20 minutes' drive from each. That makes it great for day trips, but because you are not in town, you can't just pop out for some half-and-half for your morning coffee if you're on empty. You have to plan your itinerary accordingly.
2. You are in a bit of the wilderness, so if the idea of coyotes howling over the next hill or a spider on the shower curtain freaks you out, well, maybe you should stay at a Hampton Inn in San Luis Obispo. Not that the Retreat is some woodsy cabin, no way. It's all mod cons, all the way. But when you are in the wilderness, sometimes the wilderness pays a visit.
We would absolutely come back. Thanks for making this amazing place available!
Perched atop the Stromsoe Vineyard, a producing 5 acre vineyard of Pinot Noir and Pinot Grigio, you'll enjoy a country retreat setting. It's only 2 minutes to the first wine tasting opportunity on the 'west side' in the York Mountain AVA. Our location is generally 15 degrees cooler than downtown Paso in the summer. You can visit dozens and dozens of fine wineries within a 10 mile radius. Be sure to take a sunset stroll on one of our uncrowded, pristine beaches less than 15 minutes from your door!
Close proximity to downtown Paso, its wonderful restaurants and wine events - this location has it all!
Other Activities: Boating, basketball court, shopping, kayaking, wildlife viewing, health/beauty spa, hot air ballooning
