CHARMING TAOS ADOBE

Taos House Rental Photos and Description

House, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 2-8)

This is a wonderful old Taos adobe home. The original house (now bedroom #2) was once the home of a family of 9-kitchen and bath then were outdoors. It is thought to be 250+ years old and is considered an historical property. Like many Taos homes it was added to in the ensuing years.

This home is delightful for a couple. It is a spacious home which is unusual for an old adobe. The layout is perfect for a couple and is also suitable for a group stay and would be especially comfortable for two couples since the two good sized bedrooms each have full, private baths and are separated by the sunroom and great room. There is a double futon in the sunroom and another in the great room for additional guests. (Up to a total of 8) The house is cozy in the winter due to thick adobe walls, four kiva fireplaces and a very efficient gas heater. There is always a good supply of firewood under the carport. Summer is delightful and cool inside and great for outdoor living with a deck off master bedroom and a wonderful front flagstone patio with table and chairs, BBQ and outdoor fireplace. The house is furnished with interesting antiques. sculpture and original art. The kitchen is fully equipped and ready to produce those gourmet feasts or a quick snack for two. Bathroom #2 has a washer and dryer for those chores that call out even on vacation. The yard is fenced and well behaved dogs are welcome at a small additional fee.

The house has a wonderful, peaceful feeling and yet is only a few minutes from all Taos has to offer..good restaurants, shops including MY shop Red CatMelissiana. (www.redcatmelissiana.com),galleries, the Taos Pueblo and many great outdoor activities).

Keywords: cozy, yet spacious, beautifully decorated and mountain views too and pet friendly

I was a California landscaper who wanted a simpler life so I moved to Taos. I fell in love with an old adobe home by the river and bought it. Then I fell in love with another old adobe and bought it for a vacation rental. I have a shop in downtown Taos Red Cat Melissiana 110 Dona Luz in the Guadelupe Plaza just behind the main Plaza. It is very 'Taos Eclectic' and must be seen to be believed...

Melissa Serfling purchased this house in 2007

I love old adobe homes. They have such substance, personality and character This house has a cozy and welcoming feeling that everyone who has stayed here comments on and yet for an old adobe is amazingly spacious. The house has a private enclosed yard, is nicely landscaped (next project big container plants and an irrigation system) and great mountain views.

This home has the charm of an old adobe (original room 250 years+) but has all the modern amenities we expect. It is in a quiet location, yet only minutes from all Taos has of offer (i.e. restaurants, galleries, the pueblo and outdoor adventures) I love the deck for sunsets and the outdoor patio, the 4 kiva fireplaces (each bedroom, great room and sunroom) the wood and brick floors and the 46 (count them!) overhead vigas as well as the 14' thick walls. Owner lives 5 minutes away to answer any questions or provide information.

Perfect Getaway - Quiet but Close!

What a gem! This house was perfect for my husband and myself when we made a quick trip to Taos to meet some friends. I have stayed in many Taos rentals over the years, but this home stands out. I want to come back as soon as our schedule allows! The yard is great if your pets are welcome, and the outdoor fireplace is good for socializing. The interior is lovely - the history of the home is blended beautifully with necessities for modern living (or vacationing!) In case you needed it to get better, it is close to downtown but being in Ranchos de Taos is still rural! All in all, a great rental, one of the few I've stayed in that I WANT to return for another vacation.

Thanks again, Melissa, for providing such a great rental.

The house was so comfortable and charming. My son and his wife had two dogs, and the fenced yard was wonderful. The layout is perfect for two couples, as we each felt our privacy. It was quiet and peaceful - a little out of town but easy access to downtown. It is charming and we would certainly rent again. We really enjoyed our stay.

My husband had "Spend some time in a New Mexican Adobe in Taos" on his bucket list so when I started to look around, Melissa's lovely home stood out. We booked this home for two weeks in the fall and we were not disappointed in this old beauty. If you are looking for "perfect" keep on looking but if you are looking for "charming, interesting, historical and comfortable," book this house!! Melissa is a busy lady but so knowledgeable about the area when she shares her stories. Her love for creating "homes away from home" is apparent. Melissa is a gem and so is this house. Enjoy!

We have rented "Casa Melissa" four times so yes it does reach out to us with welcoming arms. The comforts it provides are more than physical, the history of the house surrounds and pulls one out of the chaos the 21st century has brought . Each time we come, we have found a home clean and waiting for us. Melissa has decorated with such care that it does not look contrived , more like we are waiting for the original owners to return from shopping. Which by the way is an amazing activity in Taos. See you in March

Owner's Response: Hi Karin, I always love to hear from you that once again you need to spend some time with those grandbabies. So perfect to just walk across the road to gather them up for a day.

I'm so glad you discovered my home and enjoy it so much. Yes, we'll see each other in March again!

Excellent Taos stay

When we arrived for our 5 night stay at the Adobe, we felt we were walking into history with a sense of flair. Melissa has a keen eye for antiques and art. Our dogs were able to run all over the large backyard that was enclosed, and we weren't concerned about them damaging anything. The kitchen was well supplied, and we enjoyed eating at the dining table. The house was easy to reach from downtown Taos, and we were glad we could take the back road into town. Homes around the property were well spaced, and we never felt encroached upon by a neighbor. It felt very peaceful, and like we were in the country. As another positive, the wireless connection was great. My husband enjoyed fly fishing, and we did a driving trip back to Angel Fire an up to the Taos ski resort. Hikes were wonderful, and we were glad to be able to go out to some great restaurants. Loved it, and will be back!
Owner's Response: Hi Therese, thanks so much for your nice review. You used some of the words I always strive for in my vacation homes.

This house truly does have a sense of history. The second bedroom was once the entire house 250 years ago so a whole lot of history has taken place there. Like many homes in Taos it was added on through the years, but I have always loved the flow of it.

Thanks for admiring my "sense of flair". That's how I play. I love my sense of whimsy and am always so pleased when guests notice and comment. I have many guests who say they were still discovering things as they packed up to leave.

'A keen eye for antiques and art' is a fun comment too. I always furnish all my houses (now numbering five and #6 almost ready to go and all on Vrbo) with antiques, art and that sense of whimsy...

I'm glad your dogs enjoyed the large fenced yard and that you enjoyed the function of the wireless internet connection. Even on vacation we need to stay connected.

The property does have a nice sense of privacy with the fencing and location, but as you say is a quick trip to town on rural backroads.

I have stayed at many vacation rentals myself so I always try to think of everything a guest at one of my homes might need. After all, who wants to buy a tin of curry powder for one dish so I endeavor to have spices, condiments, staples, coffee, tea etc. on hand. I'm a cook so I always say that if my kitchen doesn't have it, you probably eon't need it!

I enjoyed meeting the two of you and your two dogs and do hope you return to Taos for another visit.
