I choose this place because; I myself enjoyed vacationing here, feel in love with the area and now live here.
This stand alone home is private and boasts ocean views from Kitchen, Living room, Lanai, and Bedroom. It is airy and light. It has a nice yard of it's own with tropical fruits and flower for your enjoyment. Enjoy the cool trade winds with windows, screened rear and slider doors.
I spent almost a week at this vacation rental while attending events at a retreat. The cottage was very cute with all the amenities I needed. Really enjoyed having coffee and meals at the table on the lanai everyday. The owners provided me with a landline to use for my business needs, a washer, and most importantly it was very clean and well maintained. As a female traveling alone it was a very safe neighborhood and the owners were very kind and helpful!
The price is right and the location at first seems a bit out of the way but it worked out great for us. There is a lot of things to do close to this area. The geothermal salt springs are close, good whale watching, beach is close by and Kilauea Volcano Park is close also. It could be cleaner and communication with the owner could be better. I am still not sure if the guy next door is the owner or the manager as they never did id themselves. We had a problem getting in one night because the deadbolt had broke. The guy told me they would fix it after we left and to use the back door and then walked away. As we were getting in the car to leave on the last day he came running over to say sorry that he didn't get it fixed but we were never home, whatever that meant.
We chose this rental because of the bed! It was very comfortable. A very well equipped property but it did need a really good clean - didn't bother us, but it hadn't been dusted for weeks. The main problem was getting there. The map provided gave the wrong street name so we could not find the house, no cell reception to phone the owners, so we had to drive back to the nearest town to get through. In all the search for the house etc added 3 hrs on to the journey. It was most distressing for two jet lagged seniors. Why don't you give the full address to customers after they book and pay ?the rental.
Our first exposure to VRBO. It was excellent! The place was clean and neat. The hosts were VERY helpful in giving information of things to see and do. Went out of their way to forward mail that arrived too late to meet us at guest house. Have NO concerns when booking this place! Great place at bargain prices! They interact but don't hover. They are available if you have questions.
We had the most fantastic time on our Kehena Beach anniversary trip--even with an 8 month old! The guest house has such a great view, bed and kitchen, that even when we had to bunk in for naptimes, we still enjoyed every second. Mark and Richard are so welcoming, and it's nowhere near the big tourist traps, so we got to really relax and enjoy the sights.
Some favorite outings were: Kaimu Beach (a short walk out from the Kalapana Cafe)--Kehena beach was a bit of a pain for us to get to with the baby, the SPACE and Maku'u farmers markets, and Hawaii Volcanoes National park, not an hour away.
Would recommend this spot to anyone looking to truly enjoy the beauty of the island!
