Lake Purgatory house is a 4 bedroom plus queen loft home located in the secluded Lake Purgatory subdivision, approximately 2 miles from Durango Mountain Resort at Purgatory. It is located off of Highway 550 about 24 miles north of Durango, midway between Durango and Silverton, Colorado. The house, which borders on the San Juan National Forest, sits on one acre of secluded land with no neighboring houses in sight, giving you the ultimate in seclusion and privacy. At 3300 square feet in size, the house sleeps 10 in beds easily, and it can accommodate larger groups via the use of a queen futon and two queen sofa sleepers.
This house truly sits in a winter wonderland of seclusion, yet you are only a ten minute drive to the slopes of Purgatory. Purgatory is one of the premier family ski resorts in Southwest Colorado, and it is easily accessible from Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas. In the summer, any number of activities can be enjoyed within minutes of the house, including world class hiking, biking, fishing, rafting, and jeeping. In addition, base activities at Durango Mountain resort are wonderful for families traveling with children. The historic town of Durango is less than 30 minutes away, and the most scenic parts of Colorado are at your doorstep.
Amenities at this home include a hot tub, a wonderful wrap around deck with amazing views of the starlit mountain skies, direct tv, sound system, dvd/vhs, three flat screen televisions, wireless internet, custom furnishings, a fully stocked kitchen, and a stunning overlook just minutes south of the home on foot (much more easily accessed in the summer!). There are two full living areas in the house, and a third game area is located in the queen loft. Three of the bedrooms have a king size bed, while the fourth bedroom has a single over double bunk bed perfect for kids. The master suite is truly amazing with a wonderful master bath, which includes a Jacuzzi tub and a large shower with his and hers shower heads. Come join us at our mountain retreat! You'll be back to see us again!
Please remember that if you are visiting in winter, you will need a four wheel drive vehicle or at least a two wheel drive with chains.
My wife and I live in Texas with our two children. Several years ago, we decided we would rather enjoy our investment rather than watch it go up and down on the computer as the stock market rose and fall. So, here we are! We loved Durango and the Purgatory ski resort, so we purchased this home and have been here a ton since. We've had many friends, family members, and renters all stay here and love it as much as we do. This home is truly secluded and allows you to totally unplug and relax. We wish we could live here!
Durango, Colorado is in one of the most amazing areas of the country for scenery and activities. We enjoy hiking, fishing, jeeping, rafting, biking, skiing, and sitting on the deck and relaxing. All of those things can be found in abundance in this area. In addition, the town of Durango is wonderful, with great restaurants and people, making this region a perfect all around location for summer and winter fun.
Most of the homes in this area for rent are nice and offer a great place to stay in a great location. We have been in several of the rental homes in the area, and ours is much more comfortable and nicely furnished than most. We spend 6-8 weeks per year here, and we host guests who are used to staying in the nicest places, and they all love the quality of our home. In addition, we offer TRUE seclusion. This house is at the back of the development, surrounded by National Forest. There isn't a sound other than wildlife and yourself. Quality of the home and absolute tranquility are the two unique benefits of our home.
Durango Colorado is located in the San Juan Mountains in Southwest Colorado. Our home is located in the back of a mountain subdivision on a cul-de-sac with no other homes currently nearby. We back up to the national forest. Our house is about 25 miles north of downtown Durango and about 25 miles south of Silverton just off of US Highway 550. We are a couple of miles from the Durango Mountain Resort.
Please go to durango.org or durango.com for information about the area. This home offers something for everyone in the summer and winter months alike. In the winter, cross country skiing, downhill skiing, snowboarding, snowmobiling, and ice hill tubing are all very close by. Several outfitters run snowmobile tours and horseback rides in the area. In the summer, fishing, hiking, jeeping, 4 wheeling, rafting, horseback riding, and scenic driving are all readily available. We particularly enjoy renting 4 wheelers in Silverton and cruising the Alpine Loop. The hiking in the area is amazing. The Durango train (DSNGRR) is a blast, especially for kids. The fall months offer some amazing views as the Aspens usually put on their show in late September and early October. Mesa Verde is an easy day trip away, so if you are here in the summer, go spend a full day there with a guide if possible.
Durango itself is a wonderful all season town with great restaurants. We particularly enjoy Ken and Sues, Seasons (book their wine room), Cosmo, East by Southwest, Mahogany Grill, Steamworks brewery, and Carver's Brewery. The Sow's Ear is a couple of miles from the house near the ski resort and it is usually very good. The Olde Schoolhouse Pizza restaurant is about 4 miles down mountain from the house and it's usually very good (it can be inconsistent at times).
