It Never Rains in California

  • 5 of 5

Amazing!! It never rains in California? It rained and was cold for our entire week-end stay. We grilled fabulous steaks (in the rain) and drank champagne in our private hot tub (in the rain) one night. Another night we did a complete gourmet meal (thank heavens for Whole Foods) and put the hot tub off until midnight. I have nerve had a more fantastic vacation! For three times the price we could have been crammed into a hotel room without our own private hot-tub, kitchen and grill. This was my second visit and I hope to have a hundred more. I also like free parking better than $30 a night.

Nice and Relaxing

  • 5 of 5

I hosted a bridal shower at this beautiful beach house and I cannot be happier! We had a few girls over and they loved the patio and hot tub! It was nice and relaxing. The unit was nice and clean. It was also not too far from the beach so that was prefect! I am very happy with this rental and would definitely rent this spot again!

Owner's Response: glad you enjoyed your stay!
Livingston Manor, NY

Know what you are paying for.

I travel once a year for business and pleasure from the East Coast to LA and have stayed in numerous places in Venice Beach and Marina Del Rey because I LOVE the area and riding bikes on the bike path around the board walk. This apartment and location were less than enjoyable and pleasing compared to my other experiences at other places in the area.

Communication was good with the owner and management. All was clearly explained in the contract.

That being said, when I arrived after midnight after a 12-hour commute, the lighting was practically non-existent and finding my parking space through the rear alleyway through a rickety, swinging and ancient gate was creepy and difficult to understand. The area was dark and being from NYC I could intuitively sense the errant souls wandering around and suspected some were homeless. In the daytime, the area was quite busy and not quaint at all. Very urban. But I liked the Taco Truck parked across the street everyday, the food was really good! The area was poppin at night with many good restaurants on Rose Ave.

The apartment itself was relatively clean but looked very neglected and unkempt. Many things were worn out, dirty and damaged. Basic necessities in the cooking department were not there. The dishwasher was dirty and had a sign "out of order". My friend thought I should ask for a discount on the cost of the unit but I did not. With the dishwasher out of order, one would think a dish drainer would be provided, but it was not.

The bikes worked but had no baskets and handlebars had missing grips. I was glad they had a lock though. I filled the air in the tires around the corner on the boardwalk, several blocks away.

The hot tub was clean, fully chlorinated but it was obviously old and the jets weren't strong. My friend took a soak with me and leaned against the decaying rubber headrest. She jumped out of the tub, ran to the bathroom and couldn't get the pieces of smearing, hot rubber off her neck…The deck was nice, it is right next to the sidewalk with a fence, but everything was neglected and I felt like I was staying in a surfer's shack that had been lived in by a bunch of dudes.

The place really had no charm and was full of idiosyncrasies, like a bathroom medicine cabinet that wouldn't open fully due to the height of the faucet on the sink. There were spots of mold over the soap dish, around the tub and on the ceiling.

The laundry was outside and looked like it hadn't been cleaned up in

Nice location but small space

  • 3 of 5

The hot tub itself is great, as is the outside patio, but the only thing between you and the street is a fence, so if you are looking for a "tranquil" hottubbing experience, this is not really it, as you will be hearing all kinds of noise from the street. If you are sensitive to heat, keep in mind that if you're visiting in the summer, the small portable A/C is not going to do it for you either. And even though it's listed for 4 people, I would say that this apartment is much more suitable for one couple. It's small, but perfect for 2. Cramped for 4. Other than that, the location is awesome so close to Venice and Santa Monica, parking is provided which is great too and the kitchen is fully stocked with whatever you need.

Owner's Response: This person actually violated my rental agreement for maximum occupancy and had 5 people in the unit and then complained that it was too cramped. So yes, I suppose a 1 bedroom apartment probably would seem to small for 2 couples and a new born child.

GREAT location! Great house.

We stayed at this little gem for five days. The location was fabulous. A short walk to the beach, the Venice boardwalk, the shops and restaurants on Main Street, Abbott Kinney and Rose Ave. The unit is well equipped with everything you could need for a vacation. The outdoor area is lovely and feels very private. The neighbors were very friendly. John was very easy to work with. I definitely plan on renting one of the units again and have already referred people. SO very glad we booked.

Great Location in real Venice Beach

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed right on Venice Beach before, but much prefer this location a few blocks back. Even though this is on Rose and the jacuzzi is in the front, this remains a quiet apartment and the parking is free! It is really only 5 minutes stroll to the beach, or take the bikes. The local street food is amazingly good and cheap - don't miss the Burrito van that parks opposite, or the breakfasts at Flake at 513 Rose. There is a small supermarket La Brava at 423 Rose, which also has a great and cheap Mexican restaurant. Accommodation is homely rather than luxurious and is ideal for 2, but four could easily fit in - the fold down sofa bed is huge!

Whilst staying here for 3 nights in April we enjoyed

The local food

Strolling on Venice Boardwalk

Cycling around the Venice Canals

Visiting McCabe's Guitar Shop on Pico

A surfing lesson on Manhattan Beach with Campsurf

Mountain Biking from Topanga Creek Cycle Shop

Lazing in the Jacuzzi
