On this level are the living-dining-kitchen area, bar, office, master suite, main deck, 'screenless' porch, powder bath with shower, laundry/mud room, grilling deck and double garage.

The living - dining area is furnished with comfortable but quality materials and is designed for relaxation and conversation. About Judy Wren

We live in Jacksonville Florida and built the Wrens' Nest as a second home, not planning to rent it. However, since we can't be here ALL the time, we decided we would rather share it with discriminating renters than leave it empty for weeks at a time. We have a high end oceanfront vacation business in the Ponte Vedra / St. Augustine area and have had excellent success renting to people who love our homes and take very good care of them. We think you will love our wonderful Wrens' Nest, perched high above Maggie Valley, with outstanding long range views and all the amenities you could think of!

Judy Wren purchased this house in 2009

Why Judy Wren chose Maggie Valley

We had been looking for the perfect NC mountain location for years. Our criteria included: at least 4000 foot elevation; long range mountain views; NOT surrounded by other houses; no telephone wires to spoil the view, easy access to the main roads; good restaurants and attractions nearby; and a flat driveway and entrance to the house. As you can imagine, these qualities are VERY hard to find in the mountains, especially when you insist on ALL of them! But, the minute we saw Lot 5 in The Seasons of Maggie Valley, we knew we had found our dream location. Then...all we had to do was build the house!

What makes this house unique

The Wrens' Nest is NOT the typical mountain 'cabin'. It depends on what is important to you, of course, but we think you will appreciate our combination of wonderful features:

*unbelievable long range mountain views while enjoying easy access to and from the house

*light and bright interiors with quality and comfortable furnishings, bedding and decor; enjoy our original art, award winning quilts, and all the other touches that make this house a home;

* a house filled with special amenities: walnut floors, heated bath floors in the master, stereo system throughout the house and decks, 5 televisions/DVD players; lots of games and puzzles for kids and adults; top quality appliances and cookware; separate entertainment room with game tabel and wet bar;

* two huge decks, a covered 'screenless porch', and even a grilling deck

*hot tub and wireless Internet...both OPTIONAL in case you don't need them

*double garage with automatic openers, security system,

'tankless' water heater... and more. We challenge you to find a comparable home for anywhere near our price!

Fabulous, with Nothing Lacking!

  • 5 of 5
Everything was exactly as the owner said it would be. The road is fairly steep, but is paved all the way to the house. No problem in the summer, but in snow you would probably need 4wheel drive.
This is, by far, the nicest place we have ever stayed in.
The views could not be any better!
If you want luxury, this is your place.

We had two trucks with trailers and there was adequate parking for them. The road up is all blacktopped with no problem going up or down with the trucks or motorcycles.

Owner's Response: These nice folks came from all over the country to bike through the mountains. As I promised, they had an easy time getting to and from our house and plenty of space to leave their vehicles when they were out on the road. They covered almost 1000 miles biking while there and still had lots of time to enjoy the house and the views. If you are a biker who appreciates beautiful and comfortable lodgings, we think you will love The Wrens' Nest as much as they did!

Perfect for Three Generation Family Week

  • 5 of 5
We were very fortunate to find this beautiful and comfortable property available on the week we had chosen for a family get together. Our group consisted of us, a couple, our daughters, sons-in-law and five grandchildren. The owner was very helpful during our early rental arrangements and promptly answered any questions we had. We had a few questions after arrival and they were quickly answered to our total satisfaction.

The grandchildren ranged in age from almost 8 to 15 and the home worked out well for them as well as the adults. Babies would also be fine in this home. There is plenty of play area and space for toddlers, but with the many doors and the stairs, parents would need to be watchful.

Access and parking was adequate for the small motor home that we arrived in, but the road is quite steep with some sharp turns. The owners can help renters with further information. Our family each came with their own vehicles, one with a small travel trailer, and we had more than enough off the road parking as the house is on a very quiet road with very little traffic. The entire double garage was available to us which was also very convenient.

The photos and description on the website are indicative of exactly what you'll see when you arrive. The sounds of the birds singing and the tinkling stream are missing from the photos, but they are certainly an important part of the experience of being at the Wrens' Nest.

Our family did some hiking, and visited the nearby ranch for a meal, but didn't ride as three of the children were too young or too small for the horses. The children also swam at the public pool in Waynesville. Most of us visited the Cherokee Museum and all the children and several adults went to the evening play in Cherokee. They all returned giving great reviews. Eating out is not a big thing for our family, but there is no shortage of eating places just down the mountain. The supermarket in Waynesville has a wonderful selection of groceries and the refrigerator and cooking facilities in the house are more than adequate for a family which likes to prepare their own food. The many sitting areas and three deck areas are conducive to conversations and game-playing, which we did in abundance.

Although the lower level is not accessible for those with disabilities, the first floor with a king bed, huge bathroom and two decks works beautifully for those who can navigate the one step from the garage.

A great VRBO experience for us!

Owner's Response: We are very happy that these nice folks enjoyed The Wrens' Nest and we appreciate their writing such a comprehensive review! I do want to correct one small comment since people are often worried about access to houses in the mountains. There is only ONE sharp turn to reach the house; just before the house, we do have a horseshoe turn, which might have been a little complicated since they were pulling a trailer. However, the road is wide and paved, unlike most mountain roads, and it is really not difficult to manuever. We realize that many people, particular Florida folks, are nervous about driving in the mountains. We are Florida folks too and one of my primary considerations when looking for property was the easy of access....while still having fabulous long range views.

Love this beautiful home!

  • 5 of 5
My family and I have stayed at Wren's Nest at least a half dozen times, and we'll be back this summer. The owners have done a marvelous job with the decor. The house is completely furnished. The kitchen is second to none and the views from every window are probably the best in Maggie Valley. We've rented in the winter and enjoyed the fact that we are less than five minutes from the ski lodge at the top of the mountain. We come every summer and enjoy day trips to Ashville, Cherokee, and Gatlinburg. The owners were easy to reach and we plan to return soon.

Impeccable Views and Luxurious Accommodations

  • 5 of 5
"Wow!" were the first words out of everyone's mouth as we entered the Wren's Nest! And the wows just kept coming!

This was a perfect meeting spot for our family coming from Atlanta to meet our friends from Knoxville for a weekend of skiing. The home far exceeded our expectations in location, amenities, cleanliness and comfort, and attention to detail.

Location: It's in a beautiful location just 2 miles up the mountain (straight up) from Maggie Valley, NC and just 2 miles (further up the mountain) to the Cataloochee Ski Center. The views are breathtaking and can be seen from almost every room in the house, and then walk out on one of the three porches....incredible. Thank goodness for clear roads. Snow or ice would definitely require chains!

Amenities: The kitchen is well-stocked with the high quality pots and pans. There was laundry detergent available to wash ski clothes in the LG Steamer Washer. There was a comprehensive spice drawer available for a pinch of this or that and a cabinet with some essentials such as cooking oils, salt & pepper, and some other items. I joked that I needed to take a picture of one of the well-stocked and organized drawers so that I would be able to see what I was missing from my own home. Judy thought of everything and has made it available to her renters.

Cleanliness and Comfort: The home was immaculately clean and the beds were heavenly. The linens were such high quality! After a long day of skiing, we enjoyed the hot tub which was pristine and was already at the perfect temperature awaiting our arrival. The furnishings were comfortable and high quality. You will not want to miss the recliners in front of the 55" HDTV!

Attention to Detail: Every detail was thought of! Judy was wonderful to work with and provided detailed information and instructions prior to arrival and left an entire binder of information, brochures, and recommendations for us at the home.

I told Judy that while we enjoyed the skiing, we found ourselves wanting more time at the Wren's Nest. It's so much more than a rental property. We were welcomed guests! We'll be back for another visit as soon as we can!

Owner's Response: I am so very happy that Elizabeth and her family enjoyed their stay at The Wrens' Nest. Having been in the vacation rental business (beach rentals in Florida) for many years, I am well aware that vacationers greatly appreciate a quality home that is pretty, comfortable, and well equipped. We want our renters to enjoy the mountains and all that is available to do in Western North Carolina, but we realize that the accommodations are just as important, if not more so, than attractions in making a vacation memorable. We think all of you will appreciate the amenities, views, and comforts of our mountain nest.

The Wren's Nest at Maggie Valley, NC

The Wren's Nest at Maggie Valley, NC
  • 5 of 5
My time at The Wren's Nest could not have been better! The web site is complete, accurate and precisely describes what I found. The house is fabulous--beautifully appointed with incredibly comfortable beds including the pillows. Everything was absolutely immaculate.

The views from the decks are exquisite and, even when I was there in the late summer, very breezy and comfortable. I was perfectly content to plop myself in a comfortable chair on the deck and read. That worked well except that the location has many nice sites to visit and places to eat. Black Mountain and Waynesville are both interesting with super restaurants. The Cataloochee Ranch is a fun place to eat and very near by--right up the mountain.

The owner is great to deal with--very accommodating and source of many ideas for making the visit totally interesting and enjoyable. Also invites ideas about what can make the property more delightful. I could not think of one thing to offer!

I have visited in the summer and returned in the fall. I highly suggest either--Go and stay as long as you can!

The Wrens' Nest is a new home in a new development called The Seasons of Maggie Valley. The Seasons is located off Fie Top Road, 1.9 miles up from Soco Road and 1.5 miles below the Cataloochee Ski Area. Although the house is located at 4300 feet elevation, the access up Fie Top Road is very easy; you will need a 4 wheel drive and possibly chains in snowy weather, of course.

You will never see views as spectacular as those from The Wrens' Nest. Long range mountain views, with no telephone wires, roads, or roof tops to spoil the beauty, are simply stunning. Regardless of the season or the weather, you will love looking out over the mountains and watching the clouds drift by.

The house is perfectly situated to enjoy privacy in a serene mountain setting yet have easy access to skiing, golf, restaurants, shopping, and other activities.
