Originally from the Midwest - a New Yorker of 30 years!

Steven Minning purchased this cottage in 2006

The proximity to New York is so convenient and easy to get to. The property feels so private - you feel as though you are in the middle of the country, yet you are only a 10 minute walk into the middle of the town of Milford PA. The community is quaint, with good shops, good dining and minimum amount of tourists. Go the Milford Diner for some pancakes in morning and hob-nob with the locals. The area has all the amenities to go out or stay at home!

Perfect Little Weekend

I rented the cottage as a surprise for my husband's birthday. We arrived on a brisk Friday afternoon and spent two perfect days celebrating. After checking in and exploring the cottage, we went into town and did a little preliminary exploring. We stopped at Fretta's for the makings of a nice Italian dinner and ate in that first night, taking in the view behind the cottage. On Saturday, we hit just about every spot in town - the patisserie for breakfast, the Water Wheel for lunch, and Bar Louis for dinner.

For those not familiar with the town of Milford (just like me, a week ago!), you can't ask for a cuter place. The town itself has literally one traffic light. Granted, we visited during the off season, but whenever drivers spotted us waiting to cross the street, they stopped and waved us across. Where I come from, they'd have made sport of running us over. Likewise, shop owners and restaurant staff were extremely courteous and polite. On Saturday, the entire town lost power for about an hour and a half....the shops and restaurants lit candles and gathered flashlights and did all they could to accommodate patrons and customers, and it was more of an adventure than an inconvenience.

Note that the description of the cottage references the brook outside. Is there EVER a brook outside! The second you open your car door, you hear it whooshing by. It may be that, with all the seasonal melting going on, the water was higher than usual, but it was still quite lovely and soothing.

Unfortunately, I managed to injure myself about a week before the trip, so we weren't able to take in all the hiking trails, waterfalls, and other activities that are available. That just makes us that much more excited about the prospect of going back.

It's been three days since we left Milford and I'm back to work and kids, but I haven't yet lost the mellow vibe that came on that first night. That really says something.

And lest I forget, the owner is definitely very helpful, very informative, and very cooperative. He genuinely wants you to have a good time and enjoy the property.

We definitely hope to be back. Again and again. Thank you for sharing your wonderful little property!

Perfect weekend getaway cabin!!

I was able to reserve a weekend at this cabin with my girlfriend on very short notice. The owner, Steven, was very responsive and provided clear instructions and tips about using the cabin. The cabin itself is situated right in front of a small creek, and has a very cozy interior that is beautifully decorated. We had a perfect weekend hiking and exploring the surrounding area. We will likely be coming back and would DEFINITELY recommend this place if you are looking to stay in the area!

SIMPLY AWESOME !

My wife and I spent 8 days and 7 nights of total bliss away from our careers & children... We took our two small dogs ; terrier and chiwawa , that Steven was gracious and understanding to allow one more. Between having three days of snowfall and the coldest winter temps in over 20 years , the fireplace , blankets , Pinot Noir and our dogs no negative vibes the entire time. Well except for who was going to make breakfast !
The town of Milford is right out of a Hans Christian Anderson novel. We took a winery tour , different take-out three of the seven nights , shopped locally , walked everyday along the stream , rented a couple DVD's and just rejuvenated! We're planning on going back in summer to enjoy the flip side of the surroundings!

Puppy/Human Heaven

My dog, my boyfriend and I spent three insanely perfect days cozying up to the fire and exploring the mini-wilderness in this aptly named Storybook cottage.

The place was perfect, homey, and Joey (the dog) settled right on in in her spot completely capturing all the heat from the fire. We thought we might explore the town a bit, we went to get firewood, had a coffee at the Patisserie in town... then changed our mind and spent most of the time cooking and hanging out back doors with our very own private babbling brook.

We celebrated New Year's Eve by mulling wine, watching Netflix and sitting by the roaring fire watching the rest of the world look freezing and crowded.

New Year's Day we took a trip to see the Waterfall at PEEC a perfect little place for short walks in freezing weather with a small beast of a dog who can't get enough of terrifying her owner by running on the many frozen ponds. The walks were beautiful and romantic and we defrosted in front of the fire.

Steven called us to check our stay was pleasant and left lots of numbers and contacts to make sure that if we needed anything we had it... but the place had all the amenities we needed and any weird quirks were noted in the messages and notes left for us when we arrived. The holiday went off without a hitch except maybe deciding on mulled cider or mulled wine... which was a major point of contention.

I've already told everyone I know about it and plan on coming back as many times as I can.

What a delightful experience and a weekend to remember (the 6" of snow just added to the entire charm of the environment). The photos lend total justice to this rustic delight which was imaculately clean, comfortable, and most welcoming. The owner (Steve) is extremely nice to deal with and very accomodating. I highly recommend. Also, we dined at the Fork at Twin Lakes which was a absolute gastronomic delight.
