Simply Outstanding

After extensive research on the internet, I booked this cabin for a weeklong family stay on short notice directly with the owner through this site at a significantly lower rate than renting through the resort management company. Sidney (the owner) was great to work with, answered all my questions directly, and was prompt to return my call. This property is gorgeous and is located high in the mountains (approximately 4,700 feet) so even in early July the morning temperatures were in the low 50’s with high’s in the upper 70’s. These temperatures are considerably nicer than in nearby Asheville because of the high elevation. We planned day excursions such as whitewater rafting, zip lining, The Biltmore, etc., and returned to the cabin late in the afternoon to use the fully equipped kitchen and outdoor grill to cook dinner. We spent the mornings and evenings relaxing on the deck enjoying the cool temperatures and the breathtaking view. The kids enjoyed the air hockey table and the nearby pool with an awesome slide. Even though we rented directly from the owner, the on-site staff was very friendly and attentive to our needs (although our needs were few). I just can’t say enough good things about this property. I am still getting “datta boy’s” from the wife and kids for finding this gem.
Things to keep in mind if you choose to rent this property (none of these are necessarily bad, just helpful hints):
• As indicated in the listing, the pool table and air hockey table are located in the basement, which is not finished or climate controlled. This was no problem whatsoever, but it could get chilly down there in the winter.
• Verizon is the only cell carrier that gives you a prayer of a cell signal, and it is spotty. We have AT&T and had no service on the mountain. For us, this was a good thing as we operate our own business and provided the perfect excuse to be unavailable and relax without offending anyone. The cabin has a landline with a direct number if needed.
• The wireless internet is strong and we had several laptops for researching nearby activities, e-mailing updates and photos to friends and family, etc.
• The first day, you will want to plan your meals and make a trip to the grocery store (Ingles). Make the trip count because it is quite a distance away (at least 20 minutes in good weather). If you require any libations other than beer or wine, the drive is a little further to Weaverville.
