Wow - this property was even better than we could have imagined. Beautiful, peaceful, lovely - it was the perfect combination of nature observation and relaxation. We were a party of 4 (2 couples) and found the property to be plenty spacious. The house was impeccably clean and well-maintained. For days we simply marveled at the construction and design. It is beautifully decorated and has a well-supplied kitchen with all the essentials. We were pleased to find a french coffee press, and the owners allowed us to use their pantry essentials so one does not have to worry about purchasing every single little item (like spices). There is a table on the deck, so we ate outside every meal. The grill was nice, too, and we purchased local seafood to cook for dinner. The pool is lovely. The estate workers (the caretaker and gardener) were extremely helpful and yet unobtrusive. The caretaker checked in with us daily to see if we needed anything. The estate is gated and the caretaker's house is visible from the entrance. The main house and associated buildings feel very private and secluded - you cannot see these from the road.
A major goal of our trip was seeing wildlife, and we saw many things on the property and in nearby parks. Howler monkeys, toucans, and an agouti were around the property daily. We also saw a tyra, a baselisk, the blue morpho butterfly (plus several others), a poison arrow frog, a marine toad, and several other things on the property. We also enjoyed hiking in several nearby parks - esp. Hacienda Baru. The beach is a short drive from the house and was fairly empty (we visited in February). I was glad to be staying up on a hill away from the beach to take advantage of the lovely breezes and shade afforded by the jungle. We did rent a car - I think it would be tough not to if staying here (or any home up away from the coast). We felt perfectly at home and safe throughout our stay.
Finally, the owners were helpful and responsive. I received several preparatory notes, and the owner even offered to pick up some groceries for us in anticipation of our visit. We would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking to experience jungle, nature and beach in Costa Rica. In fact, we have already recommended it to several people. We would love to return to Costa Rica and to Camp David sometime soon.
