Coconut Cottage is a fantastic beach escape destination on a safe, friendly and secluded Family Island of the Bahamas. It is perfect for honeymooners, families and fishermen.
Coconut Cottage is totally renovated with all new appliances, paint and furniture. The new deck is equipped with a private shower, gas grill, dining table and hotel-quality lounge chairs. Folding lounge chairs are available to take to the beach. Four bicycles are included.
Only steps from the back door is a deserted beach with white sand, crystal blue waters and reefs with world-class snorkeling. View angel fish, stingrays, lobsters and many others. Conch shells and starfish are plentiful. Pick a coconut off the trees on the property. Diving and fishing tours on larger boats can be arranged.
Visit the monument marking the landing of Christopher Columbus, tour the lighthouse and explore the cave.
Come, escape to Coconut Cottage on an island where the beach belongs almost solely to you.
Thanks Sharon and Wayne for the great place to base our San Sal escape from winter. We enjoyed having the kitchen and barbeque to make our own meals and cook the yummy fish we obtained from Kim. Although we did supplement with great meals at Paradise Resto, the take out by the airport and Columbus Tavern, which we affectionately referred to as Plan B with B because it was our fav option. The house was a great space for the four of us and for entertaining our other friends who were staying at the other end of the island. Loved the beach access, the upper deck for sundowners, and the outdoor shower. Thank you so much for sharing your home with others and for checking in with us half way through the week.
Also would like to give a shout out to all the friendly island folk like B and his wife, Pastor Gary, Kim, Capt. Bruce, the ladies at the grocery stores, the wintering folks that included us in their meal at the Columbus Tavern on our last night, the Research Station Manager and all the others we encountered during our week. They all helped make our stay so pleasurable.
Things of note for others when they visit the island... Say yes to renting the vehicle at this property (a great way to explore all the great beaches and the spectacular cliffs); where your sandals or shoes walking around until you are clear of the vegetation (there is a grass that produces some serious sharp burrs, ouch); wear your bug dope/long pants as sunset approaches 'cause the sand flies love fresh new legs; go snorkelling with Capt. Bruce and first mate Jazzy, the dog; the resorts are generally not welcoming to folks who are not staying there, despite what the guide books say about making reservations for dinner or getting day passes to use their facilities; do take the time to stop and talk to the locals; buy Kim's sisters beautiful beach glass jewellery at the Duty Free Shop by the airport; and finally, respect this beautiful gem of an island and leave only footprints on that gorgeous sand.
Its hard to find words to describe this wonderful place.
Me and my girlfriend rented the house for one week. In the house you can find everything you need, even bikes. It is directly on the wonderful beach, where never saw someone else than us.
It was more than practical to have the car, to explore the many beautiful places on the island.
After a week, we dediced to stay longer on the island. Because the owners came, we rented another apartment.
Even after our stay, the owners made everything to make us feel comfortable. They are great.
We can recommend this place and would directly go back again.
This rental is wonderfully situated on a beautiful beach. We spent hours watching the sun set and didn't so much as see another person.

We were at Coconut Cottage for 2 wonderful weeks. The property was just as described regarding location, layout, amenities, etc. It was clean and well maintained. Wayne kept in contact with us, calling a couple of times to make sure everything was good. Kim, the caretaker, checked in on us several times, as well. She brought us a loaf of homemade bread and a bottle of wine the first night, and later on brought us a GIANT lobster tail that was caught fresh that day, for an unbelievably low price. Our daughter was with us for the first week, so we went to Club Med on a day pass one day from 10:30 to 6:00. We got buffet lunch, windsurfing, snorkeling, free drinks all day and great snack bar dinner for $50 each. Nice to visit, but we would prefer to stay in a private home. If you rent a car, remember that you will be driving on the wrong side of the road, but there is so little traffic that it's not a big deal. Wayne and Sharon have a vehicle available for rental. I recommend utilizing the car because you have to drive all the way around the island - you came all this way, right? Not a lot to see on the east side of the island, but there is a lighthouse which is neat to climb to the top, and good places to find conch shells. The best place to find sea glass is Halls Landing by the seawall. We mostly ate at Columbus Tavern, right next door. Great food and so convenient. You may want to call ahead and see what the catch of the day is since that is what will be served for dinner. Grouper, conch and shrimp is what we mostly ate. My personal favorites were the shrimp and conch fritters. The only problem we had was with the flight from Nassau to San Sal. Wayne and Sharon recommended that we fly in to Nassau, get some meat and a few other food items, then fly out the next day. Good advice, since fresh fruits/veggies/meat are sometimes scarce on the island, but Bahamasair was a little trying. We had a 3 hour delay - not good with frozen meat in your bag. And bug spray and benadryl are necessary for the "no-see-ums". The people on the island are all very friendly. Everyone waves and speaks to you. We hope to go back some day. Thanks, Wayne and Sharon, for a very memorable vacation.
This island is a diving paradise. If you are going to do diving on San Salvador, and not staying at one of the resorts, you definitely need a vehicle. Having the SUV was a must for us on this trip. The roads are a little rough on this island but no problem with the SUV.
The house has been newly refurbished and has a fantastic deck where you can watch the sunset each night (if the no-seeums don't eat you up). Bug spray is a must in the evenings. The outdoor showers were fantastic...we used them to wash diving equipment and shower afer the beach. Wonderful to have two bathrooms in the house too. This is not a luxury house or island, but it was comfortable and met all our needs.
It was wonderful to be able to cook our meals at the house and not eat out 3 times a day. Everything is furnished in the house - well stocked kitchen (pots, pans, seasonings, condiments, etc.). There are several restaurants on the island (two resort (expensive) and some smaller (reasonable) island restaurants).
The "yard" at the house needs some tending (weeds and stickers make it necessary to wear shoes to get to the beach) - which is so private and amazing. We took long walks each evening.
The water on Sal Salvador is some of the most beautiful I have ever seen. It is clear and blue and amazes you on a daily basis. The diving is extraordinary. We used Club Med for our diving experience and they were very professional. The boats (catamarans) are new and they are on a set schedule each day. The dive masters are wonderful and very helpful, They have over 20 different diving sites - all jaw-dropping beautiful.
