The Forest Home is a unique home in lovely Birchwood Farms Golf and Country Club. In the summer, come to golf the fabulous 27-hole course; explore the many nature preserves; enjoy the waters of Little Traverse Bay on Lake Michigan; browse the unique shops in Harbor Springs, Peetoskey, and Cross Village; dine at restaurants with amazing food and fabulous views, or, just to relax and get away.
The fall colors (do drive north along the 'Tunnel of Trees' on M-119 for the display!) are not to be beat. The winter brings skiing and snowshoeing nearby at Nubs Nob or Boyne Highlands, or right outside the door in Birchwood, where you will find trails for cross-country and snowshoeing. Spring is a lovely time to watch the woods come alive with trilium, wild leeks and the tiny varieties of Michigan orchids.
The driveway has a turn-around should you need a place for a boat. Enter our home either through the front door (stopping to admire the iron sculpture in the covered entryway) or the garage. The foyer has a generous closet for 'stuff' and bench to pull on/off boots.
The foyer leads to the kitchen; living room; hallway to the first floor, large bath and master bedroom; and carpeted staircase leading up to the second floor or down to the 2 1/2 car garage (where there is an extra refrigerator) and further down to the basement. Also off the foyer is the laundry room with Maytag washer and dryer, laundry tub and 10' of closets.
In the living room sink into the super-comfortable couch that is a sofabed, loveseat and chair with ottoman. Our colors are of the forest. The leaded glass window high up above frames the treetops in an ever-changing view against the sky.
The dining room table seats six without the two extra leaves. Dine surrounded by windows of forest.
The master bedroom has a queen wrought-iron bed, whole wall of closets, large dresser, and full length mirror and chair, along with the TV/VCR/DVD. Two windows give the woodland views. The main bath has large built-in storage, and a large jetted tub.
Upstairs, the hallway looks over the living room to the soaring fireplace. The bath has a comfortable-sized shower (no bathtub). One of the queen bedrooms is upstairs, along with a paneled bedroom with two twin beds. Each of these bedrooms has a large closet and built-in storage.
There are ceiling fans in the living room and master bedroom; floor fans in the bedrooms upstairs, for summer comfort -- we have never been uncomfortable in the summer as the home is shaded by the forest. We have both electric baseboard heat and the ventilator fireplace, so winters or chilly evenings are cozy. All windows have blinds to adjust your view, and the Pella windows open easily to catch the breeze.
We purchased the Forest Home as our future retirement residence; it is updated and meticulously maintained. We welcome you to share our space until we retire and move.
