'The Hunger Games' 4-Day Itinerary - all within 30 min- 1 hour from our cabin!
Ready to experience “The Hunger Games”? You’ve come to the right place. The road to Panem starts and ends in North Carolina, where the eagerly awaited movie was shot.
This four-day itinerary, which loops from Charlotte to Asheville and back, leads to film locations, choice star hangouts and sites that connect to elements of the Suzanne Collins novel. It also notes training options to learn skills a Tribute could use.
Imagine you’re Effie, leaving the decadence of the Capitol (Charlotte), dropping by District 12 (Hildebran), then landing in a fun-loving place that makes film stars feel at home (Asheville).
Having eaten as well as the Tributes during training, prepare to enter the Arena (DuPont State Recreational Forest between Brevard and Hendersonville).
Journey from the heart of District 12 (Shelby) to the belly of the Capitol (Charlotte) and sense the atmospheric change from small-town warmth to urban cool.
Explore the Capitol (Charlotte), which turns out to be Haymitch’s kind of place

We fell in love with the changing leaves in NC many years ago and when our son was little, we wanted a fun place to visit and unwind and create lasting memories.
We walked into our cabin and KNEW this was the place to create those memories- especially with the river easily accessible to us too!
We hope you enjoy our home away from home as much as we have, and as much as our dog, Lefty has as well!
We welcome our furry guests with open paws!
We have the most accessible river access property in all of River Bend!
Hearing the rushing water is music for your soul!
Lighted stairs that are easy to maneuver make going down for a nightly marsh mellow roast in our fire pit fun!
And the cabin is decorated to give you all the comforts needed for our tree canopied retreat!
We just wanted to thank you so much for making our Holidays special - given the fact it was so last minute. We LOVED, LOVED, LOVED the cabin. Only thing that would have made it better was snow. We will be sure to tell all our friends to visit as it is the perfect romantic getaway. By the way- Heather is amazing and so helpful, no matter what time we called her with questions. We will be back.
We loved our stay in the cabin! Be prepared for a steep drive-way, but access is easy. The cabin is stocked well with all we needed. We loved being hidden away in the trees and being by the river. The owner and staff were very kind and wonderfully responsive.
Loved this house and property. Such a beautiful home fully equipped for your stay. Very comfortable and roomy. My 3 teenagers just loved it. Fishing, tubing, swimming each day in the beautiful river. Enjoyed the river daily and the fire pit near the waters edge. Was able to bring both my dogs which had a ball. Couldn't keep them out of the river playing! They completely passed out each night from all the fun. Was very grateful for being able to bring our dogs. Great location to activities and shopping. There is not a lot to do in the evenings in the area so the house was perfect to have fun, relax and enjoy.
The only downside was that I didn't receive any information prior to coming on checking in. I had to email Heather on what to do so I could plan our travels. We also never got our complementary bottle of wine. Was looking forward to it after a long drive. Made up for it after visiting the wineries in the area!
We needed a week away from the heat and retreated to NC. The cabin was so nice- special touches in each room and the owners had a new hot tub installed when there was problems with the old one- how is that for great service. They really care that you have a good time and it shows.
I would highly recommend this if you love nature, peace and tranquility- but close enough to civilization to explore. We brought our lab and he had a blast too. Being directly on a river you can hear from the deck too is amazing!
Adrienne and Heather were great to deal with and answered all our questions whenever we had one. I would come back again and recommend
Great family fun for everyone! Romping in the river, exploring country side, relaxing atmosphere, all in one vacation. Gluten free friendly too!
I would not recommend this property. There are many others to choose from in this area. The property was unkept, especially outside the cabin. Cob webs were on all the windows and hanging from the posts and gutters. A good exterminator needs to be hired. We understand being in the woods there would be many bugs, but we couldn't open the doors without bugs and spiders trying to get into the house. We were constantly spraying bug killer. The outside furniture was so dirty and full of mold, we could not sit in it. The area down by the river did not look anything like the pictures and there was no place to put chairs to enjoy the river. The area needs to be cleared out. The bench down by the fire pit area collapsed on my daughter when my son sat on it, it was completely rotted. This could have been an issue if she was a small child. The house itself had knick knacks all over the place, there wasn't any room to put our stuff. The beds were not made for us when we arrived. A bag placed with sheets were on top of each bed. The bedding coverlets were very dirty and had holes in them. The basement was full of bugs, spiders and cob webs. We needed to vacuum the ceiling and the walls before our kids could sleep down there. 3 days into it, the kids wouldn't sleep down there anymore because they felt crawled on during the night. There wasn't enough hot water for 8 people to shower. We were promised a bottle of wine would be left for us upon arrival, but none was there. The refrigerator apparently had just been turned on and was still not cold when we arrived. The management company (Heather) never met us at the property or even showed up when we texted her that we had issues with the cabin. Just stating she would make a note of it. There were many light bulbs out throughout the cabin. We mentioned it to her and were told to change them, that there were plenty of bulbs in the basement. I guess she wanted us to get on a ladder, unscrew the fixtures and change the light bulbs while on vacation. The exhaust fan in the main bathroom wasn't working. The master bedroom's mattress was shot. We did not sleep in there it was so bad. The downstairs bathroom had mold on the shower curtain, so no one would shower in that bathroom. What a shame that this property has been so neglected. At one time it was probably beautiful.
My wife and I absolutely loved the cabin, the location and the outdoor activities that are so close. Chimney Rock, Looking Glass Falls, Sliding Rock and let’s not forget the hot tub to relax and enjoy the peace and quiet of the outdoors!
Thanks for letting us stay at your wonderful cabin, it was a great week!!!
