I’m pleased to help make your stay at owner Tom Flynn’s beach cottage as perfect as possible.
It’s a privilege to work with a man of Tom’s caliber who is well-known as a visionary environmental manager, advisor, consultant, environmental engineer, and preservationist in California’s professional environmental culture, as well as at the CA Coastal Commission and NOAA (National Oceanic and Aeronautic Administration).
Tom’s many years of work to eliminate potential for pollution in Tomales Bay has won accolades throughout Marin and Sonoma Counties. Tom has substantially assured the adjective “pristine,” as in “pristine Tomales Bay”. Tom’s leadership to preserve several hundred acres of environmentally sensitive and scenic areas near the edge of Tomales Bay and nearby King Mountain is impressive and inspirational. He is known for results, which provide community, economic, and environmental benefits. This caring and attention to detail is reflected in his beach cottage.
I do environmental management over a range of water quality, energy efficiency, land use and have developed environmental clean-up and fitness technology.
Robert Ross purchased this cottage in 1975
A little over an hour drive from the Golden Gate Bridge is this natural wonderland replete with high quality restaurants, sustainable agriculture, hiking, biking, water sports, secluded beaches and a National Park which is a gem in the system.
Listening to the sound of waves lapping around the beach cottage, enjoying tremendous shorebird and wildlife right outside, kayaking in a peaceful bay, relaxing in a great bed, couch or hot tub with spectacular views, enjoying great food from locally produced seafood, organic vegetables and fruit, and excellent nearby restaurants.
We used the house for a week-long planning retreat from our business. It worked. We got a couple of business plans written, plus some smaller pieces, and read some business books when we weren't writing. We took breaks to watch the parade of bird life and fish pass by in both directions, north and south. The windows in this house are very well placed to frame views. I like all the small owner-builder touches, like the trim around the windows and doors. The high point was a major rainstorm that blew in from the southwest in the middle of our stay. Forty to fifty mph winds whipped the bay into white-capped waves that, during high tide, sloshed in under the house. Mid-day during the storm the wind was blowing the tops off the waves.
Wow we had an amazing time. The views were spectacular and the weather perfect. There is nothing like sitting over the water's edge and watching the sunsets on Tomales Bay. This cottage is great for two or three people and if you're doing something with a larger group there are cottages next door for rent as well to combine groups. Rob was super helpful with recommendations for hiking. Hog Island is two miles south and Nick's Cove one mile north. This place does not disappoint!
This place was perfect for my wife and I and made a great base to explore Point Reyes from. The cabin has everything you'd need and is such a tranquil and beautiful spot. The location out over the water really is amazing, we couldn't have asked for a better spot to watch the sun set or drink coffee in the morning. The view from the bed is spectacular, but be aware that the bedroom is up some steep stairs/ladder if you aren't particularly mobile. Can't wait to get back for another visit!
The house was just as pictured. Beautiful views, quiet, and a great spot to unwind. Great for one or two people, but not really more than that. My Friend took the bed upstairs and said it was comfy. I tried the pullout but it wasn't comfortable enough for me, so just slept on the couch which was totally fine. Close to really great beaches and points of interest. I would do some grocery shopping before coming out if you plan to make even small meals at the house. While there are some stores close by, they were very limited and pricey. Nick's Cove was one of the best dining experiences I've had in a while, so do check it out. I would rent again for another staycation.
This is a really lovely house, very comfortable, and right there on the water in the Tomales Bay. Really peaceful, close to beautiful hikes, nature, and lots of great food places. We will most definitively be back.
A friend and I booked Bleu Bay Cottage for a personal retreat this past weekend. It was really delightful. The views were gorgeous and the furnishings comfy. It was very clean and well maintained. For the two of us it was perfect.
If there had been four or more of us we might have been disappointed. It can probably sleep 3 adults comfortably but any more and I think we might have felt on top of each other and I'm not sure the sleeping arrangements would be that comfortable.
The kitchen was charming and clean with lots of counter space and a beautiful vintage stove with working stove top. It was adequately stocked with utensils for most folks, but some basics I take for granted at home such as a large flat bottomed skillet and mixing bowls weren't to be found. However, there was plenty of pots, pans, etc to make do. We kept our meals simple with lots of fresh local produce, meats and dairy.
I would definitely recommend this cottage for anyone looking to get away with a friend or two, and plan to return when I need some quiet time on the bay with only the sounds of birds and of water lapping below the deck.
There is great beach walking and hiking all over the surrounding area including the remarkable Pt. Reyes National Seashore, but a very local tip: hiking is just a few hundred feet away up a very quiet country road (virtually no cars) through the Straus Creamery pasture lands (the first organic dairy west of the Mississippi). You can walk all the way to the top of the local beautiful hills. At the top of this road you can enjoy expansive views of Tomales Bay and Point Reyes Peninsula.
Also about 4 miles South, the Marconi Conference Center (a California Parks Foundation Facility), is a nice place to hike around and take in historical information and beautiful views. Marconi, as you may know, did the first trans-Pacific radio transmissions from this location.
