August 2011

I stayed at this apartment for a wonderful week+ this August, 2011. The apartment itself is quite nice, with a very nice kitchen, nice furniture, wi-fi and a mobile phone. I had no trouble sleeping here (there's two pillow sizes, thankfully!, and plenty of throw-pillows too). There is a gym less than a block away with very inexpensive eight-uses-per-month rates (AR$35 when I was there), something that was important to me and that I normally look for in hotels. I have no complaints, whether about the apartment or the building.
The location is wonderful, being in walking distance to three major milonga locations: La Viruta, Villa Malcolm, and El Fulgor (where Milonga Diez is hosted), as well as the Fundación de Tango Argentino (where I attended a Tango workshop as well as private classes), and the "rural" (where the Tango festival is being hosted as I write this). El Beso is a short cab ride away (walking distance, in a pinch), as are several other milongas and prácticas.
Even closer -two blocks away-, particularly for the non-dancer, is a Plaza (on Serrano) full of nightlife, and, during the day, fairs. For those of you who don't know, Palermo SOHO is teh place to be in Buenos Aires, particularly if you want to find locals and foreigners both to party with.
Also nearby: "kioscos" and supermarkets (OK, not "super" by American standards, but you can get supplies and food, which is plenty good enough on vacation), as well as much shopping of all sorts (clothing, books, ...) and cafes, restarants, bars, restobars, ... On Santa Fe ave there are several banks, and since Santa Fe is busy at all hours it is quite safe to use these banks even at late hours (though folks who are not familiar with the area should still exercise extra caution even when using an ATM on Santa Fe).
Cabs are available at all hours, and so are policemen, who can be found on foot patrol every several blocks at night.
There's even a rooftop jacuzzi (though I'd not recommend even thinking about it in the winter), as well as free washer and dryer.
Finally, I cannot forget to mention that the owner and caretaker have been very helpful, and very nice (both speak English and Spanish fluently).
In short: comfortable, safe, and convenient in every way that's important when on vacation, at least to me. I can't wait to find the time to go back!
PS: I'm slightly worried that this review might cause it to be harder for me to book this apartment whenever I get to go back to Bs. As. :)
