Overview

Arcachon Condo Rental Photos and Description

Condo, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 1/2 Baths, (Sleeps 4-6)

NEWLY REMODELED: You will love this sunny two-bedroom, 2 1/2 bath condo apartment and Arcachon, France!

Just did total remodel in 2014, new tile floors, new kitchen opens to dining/living so the cook can enjoy the guests. New tiled baths and vessel sinks everywhere.

A destination resort with beautiful beaches and boardwalks, Arcachon is the largest town on the Bay of Arcachon, which empties into the Atlantic just 45 minutes west of Bordeaux. The bay is Europe's oyster capital, and is a commercial and sport fishing center as well. Beautiful beaches (both on the bay and the ocean!) and all kinds of water sports and shopping await you in town, or you can use it as a base to explore the Bordeaux wine country or the Basque region (Pyrenees Mountains) and Spain.

Your toddlers will love the calm waters at the beach on the bay, and your teenagers will safely find lots to do within walking or biking distance; it's a great spot for families of all ages!

The condo is the ENTIRE very private top floor of a 4-story modern building, with elevator. It's a two block walk to the beach, and three blocks to the shopping district. It has two bedrooms; one with a queen-sized bed, and one with two twin beds, each bedroom has own bath. Playpen/crib too. There are three balconies, a large double living/dining room with two VERY comfortable sofabeds, lovely antiques and oriental rugs; a full bath with tub and in-tub shower, a full bath with walk-in shower off the twin bed room, plus a 'WC' guest powder room off the kitchen. With three sinks and three toilettes in the various bathrooms it never feels too crowded! Large by French standards, the condo is 863 square feet plus 295 square feet of balconies.

The condo is on a very quiet residential street, but in five minutes you can walk into 'centre ville', the wonderful large French daily market, the casino, the park, all the cute shops, and many, many restaurants. There are walking and tourist train tours of the area's unique 'arcachonnais' architecture, which is sort of a cutesy Victorian. (Belle Epoque)(Click on link below to the tourist bureau's website to see photos of the bay and the town.) Many tourist boat excursions and ferries leave from the pier, a five-minute walk away from the condo. If the bay is too tame you can ride the ferry across to the ocean side at Cap Ferret and take surfing lessons, or learn to hang glide off the Dune de Pilat, the largest sand dune in Europe! Kite surfers have an ocean beach too.

The condo is equipped with all linens, and ample cookware (new Calphalon for new induction cooktop!) for the gourmet chef. New dishwasher, oven, and microwave! An oyster purveyor (a personal friend of the owner)has a stand just around the corner, and you will enjoy trying the croissants and the pain au chocolat each morning from the many bakeries within walking distance. The town market is open daily, too. The area restaurants have varied cuisines: Basque, Morrocan, Indian, Thai, Chinese, Italian and many, many seafood choices along with traditional French.

There are plenty of books to borrow and read, plus games to play with the family, and toys for the beach. There are French and American DVDs to watch, and CDs to play on the stereo. Even a guitar for the musician in your party! Bring your ipod and play your favorite tunes from the new Sony player.

Great day trips: St. Emilion for wine tasting and visit of the beautiful medieval town; Bordeaux for it's bistros, churches, designer shopping, museums, and antique dealers; Biarritz for lunch at the gorgeous Hotel du Palais; St. Jean de Luz for 15th century church, quaint port, and Basque shopping; San Sebastian, Spain for the Paris-like city and great 3-star dining; Paulliac for lunch and tours of Mouton Rothschild and Chateaux Margaux; the amazing Chateau La Roquetaillande belonging to Montaigne's descendants, and Chateau La Brede, Montesquieu's former residence; the very chic Caudalie spa for massages and lunch. Or just spend your time relaxing in Arcachon on the beautiful beach!

Arcachon is easy to get to: you can fly to Bordeaux from European hub airports and rent a car, or take the 'TGV' fast train from either Charles de Gaulle airport or from the Gare Montparnasse in downtown Paris. (Good option if you want to spend a few days in Paris!) At least one train daily from Montparnasse station is direct all the way to Arcachon, and from Charles de Gaulle airport you can change trains easily at the Bordeaux train station. From the train station in Arcachon it's a seven minute walk to the condo, so a car is not necessary unless you want to explore!

The condo is owned by Ann Sanford, a veteran (37 years!)Financial Advisor at Morgan Stanley in Toledo, Ohio, USA, and avid francophile. Ann can help you plan your trip to Arcachon and give you lots of tips if you want to spend time in Paris or other regions of France as part of your vacation.

Make sure and check the link below to the rental calendar, which is religiously updated for all available weeks, before you email or call. You can also view the Guestbook for comments from past visitors. Thanks for viewing this! Bon voyage!

Why Ann Sanford chose Arcachon

Ann fell in love with Arcachon while visiting friends. It's architecture, weather, and culture make it the perfect place to spend a week or six months. The town is full of interesting shops, great restaurants, and the whole west coast of France is one long beach! Pop stars, ballets, and operas come to town frequently, and you can also take the train to Bordeaux for cultural events. Did we mention the wine?

What makes this condo unique

Ann is obsessive about equiping her apartment with everything one needs to have a happy stay, from hair dryers and magnifying mirrors to oyster knives. With free calling to the U.S. and free computer/wifi use you can enjoy your home away from home to the fullest. Ann is always available to answer questions and give tips on France travel, and truly enjoys meeting the families who visit Arcachon. Two renters have gone so far as to buy apartments in town themselves and many return year after year.

We loved the location, close easy walk to the beach, market & shops, we made great use of the bikes as well! Thanks for all the wonderful tips of were to go & eat. Our wine tour was fabulous too! We loved Arcachon and would enjoy returning someday!

Conveniently located

  • 5 of 5

We stayed two weeks and enjoyed walking along the boardwalk along the beach and shopping in the local market. We did not have a car but took the local buses and the train to boardeau - where we could get tours, etc. The apartment had been newly updated with all new appliances and updated kitchen and bath and was very convenient to both the beach and centre ville. We also enjoyed sitting on the terrasess although I imagine they could get pretty hot in the middle of summer. Very relaxing.

Comfort & Convenience!

  • 5 of 5

This apartment offers both comfort and convenience in the heart of Arcachon. The living/dining area is especially large and appealing. Easy walking distance to beach and shopping, and the free electric shuttle bus service runs along the street in front of the apartment as well. We hope to return for another stay at this property to have another chance to enjoy the town and beaches of Arcachon.

Just like home...but surrounded by a charming French beach town

  • 5 of 5

Wow. Could it get any better? This apartment feels like home from the moment you walk through the door, and Arcachon is one of the easiest and most pleasurable towns to get to know. The location couldn't be more perfect. A couple blocks to get to the beach, same for the grocery store, same for cafes, bakeries, etc. And that is when you can force yourself out the door. I would have been perfectly content to spend my entire vacation on that magnificent terrace that spans the entire length of the penthouse. What a haven.

There are so many wonderful places nearby it is hard to get enough of any of them. We loved hanging out on the beach, where the sand was like velvet and the water was calm. My daughter loved the antique merry-go-round right there next to the boardwalk. We walked all over town in the stroller and would often end up high on the hill at the Parc Mauresque, where they had a fenced area with a mini playground for toddlers.

In addition to our stroller tours, it was the perfect town for a runner. Early in the morning, I'd make my way up through the historic neighborhoods, trying to see new streets and architecture every time, and returning home on the beach path and boardwalk. I'd stop at a bakery for a bag of croissants and meet the family at a cafe on the boardwalk for coffee. Heaven!

Many times we combed the market for ingredients for great homemade meals and ate out on the terrace. When we didn't want to cook, we tried out little restaurants, often ending up at our very favorite: La Table du Boucher on the pedestrian-only street perpendicular to the beach. Their 3-course menu of the day written on the window was often too good to pass up. We also had a mission to find the best canneles in town...it was a pleasure and we found several that fit the bill with slightly different qualifications, so you're on your own for that! My toddler loved the bakeries and the fantastic ice cream cake with fondant decorated to look like a ladybug from Marquet.

At the other end of the spectrum, our teenage son and his French cousin found plenty to amuse themselves as well. The stores were fun to browse, they'd go to the beach in the afternoon, and wander around town a bit in the evening and go to cafes. The cable, movies, and internet at the apartment were a big hit with them.

The owner went out of her way to ensure we had everything we needed and more. From toddler to teenager to adults, we couldn't have been happier. Super place. We can't wait to go back!

Wonderful rental!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I (husband, son (9), daughter (5) and mom) stayed here for a week in July. We cannot wait to go back! The owner, Ann, was helpful from day one. She always answered my emails very quickly and had lots of helpful hints and suggestions. She has guide books and brochures in the condo for everywhere you could possible want to go. The condo was exactly like the pictures and description. We had everything we needed. It was clean, comfortable and full of light. There was plenty of room for all of us- with all the balcony space, the huge living room and 2 bedrooms we were never in each other's way. The location was perfect. On a lovely quiet street, yet walking distance from the beautiful beach and all the restaurants and shopping. Having the garage for our rental car was a great help, as the streets were crowded while we were there. Arcachon itself is a wonderful town in a great location for exploring the region. We were able to take day trips to St. Emilion, the Dune de Pyla, and even spent a day in Pau to see a stage of the Tour de France. One week was not enough for us, we are already planning our next stay in Arcachon in Ann's condo! I would certainly recommend this property to a friend or relative.
