Just 20 minutes west of downtown Austin, you’ll have a wonderfully private custom-built home on Lake Austin. Whether you’re in town for UT, business, entertainment, or just need a weekend away from your home in Austin, any reason is a good reason to stay at Hastings House.
We have a nice private boat dock & large deck above with great views. It has a powerful boat lift that accommodates most ski boats up to 24 feet & you can bring your own boat. The dock is only a few steps down from the house, so you can quickly hop in your boat and be on your way. On either side of the dock is a generous swimming area for a bracing dip in the cool waters of Lake Austin. Lake Austin is a constant level lake, so the boat ramps are always open.
This home affords privacy, but is an easy trip by your boat to the Hula Hut (Mexican food), Ski Shores (for burgers) or County Line on the Lake (BBQ.) Ten minutes away is the fabulous Hill Country Galleria for shopping, restaurants & movies (including the newly opened Whole Foods Market.) Not far is the Wild Basin Wilderness Preserve if you’re interested in hiking & seeing the Texas Hill Country.
There is a convenience store just blocks away and a supermarket 10 minutes away for food or anything you may need. It's only takes about 20 minutes to get to downtown Austin, UT, the Convention Center, Zilker Park & the 6th Street entertainment district.
The house is a tri-level home built on a hillside, designed by architect Robert Pringle. On the entry level is the recently remodeled 'middle' bedroom which has a queen-sized bed. There is a 36 inch TV with DVD player & cable in this room & a small stereo with a connector for your MP3/iPod. Also on this level is a full bath with a shower.
Upstairs is the loft master bedroom with a king-sized bedroom with a king-sized bed. The master has a private balcony overlooking Lake Austin & the loft overlooks the living room. There are vertical blinds to close off for more visual privacy. There is a TV with DVD/VCR in this bedroom and a iPod/iPhone clock radio. The master bath has a bathtub with shower along with double sinks & a separate vanity & 2 walk-in closets. Also upstairs is another bedroom, which is enclosed, with a twin day bed & trundle. All bed linens & bath towels are provided.
Downstairs is the living room with its soaring natural wood ceiling, a wall of lakeside windows & a lovely limestone fireplace. The two sofas fold out into queen-sized beds for additional sleeping accommodations. In the living room, we have a 52 inch HD TV with a Blu-ray player and NetFlix access, but with the view from the house, deck & boat dock, you may never turn on any of the TVs at all! The house has Wi-Fi, so if you need to work or do a little Internet surfing, you can do it easily.
The fully furnished kitchen includes a new Jenn-Air range with optional grill. Our Energy Star dishwasher saves water & energy and is quiet! The oak table in the dining room seats eight & there is a rolling drop-leaf table for additional seating. The refrigerator has in-door ice & water. We’re fully stocked with lots of dinnerware & cooking utensils. Basic cooking supplies are on hand, (spices, flour, corn meal, pop corn, etc.) as well. Also on this level is the powder room & the laundry with new Energy Star washer & dryer. Just out the back door is a propane grill with a spare tank for doing a bit of outside grilling.
There are four ceiling fans in the home & two separate air handling units to keep the house very comfortable in the summer or winter.
Adjacent to the house & overlooking the lake is a large tree shaded deck with three large pecan trees growing up through the deck, or you can go out on the deck above the boat slip & enjoy the quiet, smooth water early in the morning & the sunsets in the evening.
In the evening, you can cook out on the gas grill & dine under the stars on the house or boat deck. Relaxing on the boat deck as dusk falls is the perfect way to end the day. The deck above the boat dock is great for sunning, dining or entertaining. From the boat deck, watch the bats chasing insects in the summer as you enjoy a fabulous Hill Country sunset.
There is plenty of parking for 4-6 vehicles & your boat trailer. The house is at the end of a private road so there is no traffic (except the neighbors).
Austin generally has a temperate climate year-round, so you can hop aboard your boat & be skiing in minutes, go swimming off of the dock most of the year. If the water is too cold for you, do some early morning fishing, visit area shopping or just do some serious relaxing.
During your stay, you’re in your own private world, but Austin is as close as you like.
This is also great location for small business & church day retreats, corporate relocation, & writer seclusion. Families enjoy making this their “home base” when in town for weddings or family reunions. It is a good place, too, for wedding guests- parents, even the bride & groom's first night as a married couple. How romantic to be right on the lake to enjoy your first married night & morning.
