I give this property 1 star because it is a great location and a beautiful property. But don’t be fooled as I was. I rented 3 properties and same weekend for a family wedding, and this property rental was a nightmare. To rent a property is for the owner to take payment and allow the occupant to “use and possess” it for a period of agreed upon time. These owners never relinquish control. You are "late" if you don't show up to check in at 4pm. They never give you a key to the house. They stay on the property and are in and out: watering the plants, going into the garage, providing daily housekeeping (which does not include cleaning the kitchen, a detail they fail to include in the contract- although one morning they came in the kitchen and threw out our breakfast after only 3 people had eaten!). The house boasts 2 kitchens- what they don’t tell you is that you can only use 1- and that kitchen has an oven whose thermostat is off and it doesn’t have a functioning dishwasher (We had to go out and buy paper plates and cups then they charge you for extra garbage). You will never have any privacy. In fact, as I was getting dressed to go out to dinner, at 4pm in the afternoon, he came in the bedroom to “turn on the light”.
The worst thing is that they accuse you of breaking things and don’t return your security deposit. We admittedly broke 1 thing, and owned up to it immediately. Then were told we were liable for other items broken on the property but a list, itemization and receipts for these items are never given. They just keep a portion of your deposit. The contract is to return the deposit within 2 weeks. That doesn’t happen. I'm not sure why they even rent out their property since they can't let go....oh, yeah silly me...they need the rental income.
Owner's Response: Wow! This is not only my first bad review ever received, but is much untrue. I’ve been renting since 2006. All the guests I've had at the estate say how much they've really enjoyed their stay and put rave reviews in my guestbook. Guest have not added reviews to this site, but check them out on my property #242011 on homeaway.com. I will be adding some of the guestbook reviews to the site.
I don’t think I could have made these guests happy, no matter what. All arrived with a chip on their shoulder. Why? They weren’t able to have the party they had been planned for 60 people. Six days prior did I discover this, by calling to say I hadn’t receive the damage deposit required no less than 7 business days prior to arrival. She said she'd mailed it on the due date. This was not true. Then she reminded me back in April had ask if it’s possible to hold a rehearsal dinner party which would include a FEW additional guests-now for 27. Four days prior told it would be for 60. Prior arrangements for parking, shuttles, rentals etc not been made. At that late date she was unable to meet the conditions that apply to hold an event of this scale. I rent the estate as a Private Resort. Nowhere in my contract does it state, to rent this property is for the owner to take payment and allow the occupant to “use and possess” it for a period of agreed upon time.” All private estates have full time staff to maintain them. She was aware that someone would be on the property at all times. Her kitchen issue is untrue and stove work just fine. The house is set-up for 10 not the additional 30-40 that did use it for 2 days. The incident she’s talking about - all had departed for the evening, I was unaware she had not. Her door ajar, I knocked and no answer. I walked in, she was sitting with her back to me completely covered doing her makeup. I apologize for interrupting and came to turn lights on as rest of the house. One of her guests decided he didn’t want the pool sweep running, didn’t ask to have turned off and took upon himself to mess with and snapped it off at the pool wall. I called to tell her this happened and her deposit would be held until the repairs could be made. My contract states that a damage deposit is return within 14 days from departure provided there are no damages. The only charges out of her deposit was costs to fix the pool sweep. I feel bad she was so unhappy with her stay here. 163 guests just from Apr-Oct are extremely satisfied. Concerns? email/call me. Todd
