Why This House?:
We looked for over a year at literally hundreds of Big Bear houses before we found Waterview Cove. This was the only house we found that met all of our requirements for a mountain lake home getaway:
We have more info & pix on our website: www.waterviewbigbear.com
•Quiet - many BB homes have noise from the road or the airport (east BB Lake is in the flight path for the airport). We're in a very quiet area at the end of a peninsula. The only sound you'll hear is the wind in the trees.
•Water Access - many BB homes close to the water don't have water access due to private property, slope or other issues. Ours has direct access to the lake & a secluded cove via a short access road. You can walk to & be on the lake in minutes.
•Open land - many homes are in neighborhoods that feel like suburban neighborhoods with neighbors all around you. We're on a 2/3 acre lot bordering more than an acre of undeveloped land. You have lots of space
Why This House (2)?:
•Trees - We're in a forested setting with lots of trees including trees sheltering the deck.
•Sun - Homes in Big Bear w/ southern facing decks can be difficult to use on summer days as the sun in BB can be intense. Our house has a northern facing deck which stays pleasant and protected on hot summer days.
•Accessibility - parts of BB are located off narrow windy roads and/or have long windy driveways which can be difficult to navigate. We're on a primary street w/ a short and straight driveway.
•Walkability - The area is very walkable; no cars come there except residents -- you can easily walk to the lake, a fishing cove, a public park, a swimming cove, a wonderful mountain market, several restaurants & a marina. You could spend the weekend here and never use your car.
*View Obstacles - a lot of the homes we looked at had electrical poles and wires or funky houses in their view; this house has an unobstructed view of the trees, lake and mountains on the north shore.
Why This House (3):
•Layout - a lot of homes in BB have odd layouts. Ours has a large great room & master br upstairs, a second master & a separate game room with a connected wing for the kids' rooms downstairs. If you're just a couple you can live on the main floor and never use the stairs; if you're a family the kids have their own space downstairs but are easily accessible.
•New Log Home - a lot of homes in BB were built in the 70's or earlier, & have an older, funky feel. We wanted a newer home with a true log, wood, mountain feel. This house with its log beam ceilings, lots of wood walls and touches and extensive mountain decor makes you feel instantly like you're on vacation at the lake in the mountains.
•Stairs to House - some BB homes require you climb multiple flights of stairs to access the house. The main floor in our house is only a few steps up from the driveway.
•Garage - many homes in BB lack garages. This home has a nice connected enclosed two car garage w/ automatic opener.
