'La Casa di Iva' is a real home filled with memories that go back for generations. The bread oven next to the grape arbor out the kitchen window was at one time used by the entire neighborhood to make bread. Massa Macinaia itself is a quiet hamlet with easy access to the auto strata for jaunts to destinations in Tuscany both near and far. A one minute walk from the house is a café and grocery store as well as one of Italy’s finest gelateria’s: Papa Grappa’s.”
Just further down the road is a bank, complete grocery store, pharmacy, and restaurants. 'La Casa di Iva' is just 9 km outside of the walls of Lucca--a city you will fall in love with at first site! Unlike many other Italian cities, Lucca has an almost perfect preservation of its magnificent Renaissance city walls and its churches, squares, antique markets, museums, restaurants and its elegant shops are second to none. But Lucca itself is only the start of the adventure!
The beaches of Viareggio and Forte dei Marmi are just a half hour away. The Cinque Terre is an easy day trip. The the towns of Carrara, Pietrasanta, and the spas of Montecatini, and Bagni di Lucca, are all near. For outdoor enthusiasts, the Garfagnana, one of Italy’s great nature preserves with many hiking trails, is an easy option to include in an itinerary. Pisa is a half an hour away and Florence forty-five minutes.
The rolling hills of Chianti country and the Etruscan town of Volterra can easily be reached. Other Tuscan gems such as San Gimignano, Montepulciano, and Siena, to name but a few, are further, but possible to reach and return in a day.
'La Casa di Iva' sleeps 1-4 people. There is one bathroom on the ground floor and the bedrooms are both upstairs: the first bedroom is next to a staircase that leads directly down to the bathroom (note: as the staircase is steep it is not recommended for the elderly, those with disabilities, or for those under 8 years).
The second bedroom is on the opposite side of the house (and one must walk a bit further to get to the downstairs bathroom) but has wonderful views of the high Apuan Alps in the distance. There is a den on the ground floor with a convertible couch. The kitchen has all of the amenities one needs to cook meals. Plentiful linen and towels are provided.
'La Casa di Iva' offers you a great location, a comfortable stay, and at a price that is reasonable. Because of 'La Casa di Iva's prime location so close to destinations such as Lucca, the beaches of the Mediterranean Coast, the mountains, and spectacular destinations such as Florence and Pisa--as well as being offered at an affordable price, it is important to book well in advance.
