About this property

The River House - Private 1.6 acre Upper Kenai Riverfront Home - Cooper Landing

The house is located a five hundred yards upriver on the opposite bank from the Kenai Princess Wilderness Lodge, just upstream the Upper River rapids. The living set up is ideal for a romantic couple, a family of 6 or 4-5 friends. Moose, bear, bald eagles, beavers, goats and mountain sheep are commonly seen from the property. Outside there are plentiful wild raspberries in late summer, an outdoor sauna and wade fishing for Rainbows and Dollies.

Wildlife viewing from the property in May can be fantastic before the river opens for fishing. Bald eagles frequently hunt from the trees in the backyard during the early season. The fly fishing for trophy rainbow trout and Dolly Varden on the upper river is tremendous between July and late October. In late September and October silver salmon begin to spawn in the river behind the house.

The fall season in Cooper Landing is arguably the most beautiful time of the year. As the summer season comes to an end the rainbow trout and silver salmon fishing is at its peak as the deciduous trees turn bright yellow and orange.

The Kenai River is open for fishing between June 11th and May 1st. The ADF&G website is a great source of information on the latest fishing regulations.

Peaceful and Gorgeous
We had a wonderful stay, the pictures and listing were accurate, the wood burning stove was not allowed to be used but we were there in the summer so it really wasn’t necessary. The home and surroundings were amazing

There are few things I enjoy more than floating down the Upper Kenai and few places I find more peaceful than having a cup of coffee in the sun room. I was able to spend the month of September fishing in Cooper Landing for about a decade before owning this property. For any guests that have not experienced September in Cooper Landing, I strongly recommend it.

We have just completed our tenth consecutive rental season and plan to continue renting the house until we retire. We have continually reinvested a minimum of one third of the rental revenue back into the property for the last eleven years.

It is extremely important to us that our guests have a trip of a life time while visiting the River House. We partnered with Jessica Larsen to professionally manage the property during your stay.

Why they chose this property

There are many houses available for rent in Cooper Landing, but few have the privacy and beauty of the River House. It is easy to spend hours in the sunroom staring at the florescent river, surrounding mountains and local birds.

Robins and Bald Eagles are the two most common bird species that can be seen on the property. While the mosquito is dubbed the "Alaska State Bird", between the river breeze and landscaped yard there are very few mosquitos or other biting insects on the property.

We recently added a trail to a fenced river overlook. The views from this overlook are stunning. The short trail crosses a creek that is located on the property and allows you to see 700 yards upstream.

Several of the local guides (year round residents) are very familiar with the River House and have spent considerable time fishing in the backyard. They can pick you up in a drift boat behind the house with no extra charge and spend some time explaining what is happening in the river at the time of your stay.

What makes this property unique

The Upper Kenai river is one of the most beautiful places we have come across. The house is extremely quiet and sits across from the drift only marker on the Upper Kenai (No motors allowed). Just above the property, the river begins to narrow and pick up current. The view from nearly every room in the house is breathtaking. The original house has been featured on the cover of several magazines over the years and was recently chosen for VRBO sweepstakes in 2015. Great effort has been made to maintain the trees on the property, while keeping them maintained to ensure views from all angles.

There are very few properties on the Kenai river with the privacy and scenery of this location. The property has blue spruce, choke cherry, lilac, cottonwood, spruce and birch trees with a landscaped grass yard.

In March and April the property is home to many bald eagles that feed throughout the day on spawning silver salmon. Brown bears frequent the property in May and early June and leave their mark on an annual basis. By late June the bears move a few miles down river to look for spawning salmon. Rainbows and Dollies can be caught easily for most of the summer and fall. In October Silver Salmon can be caught from the backyard.
