Bayflower Cottage is one block to the wide, child friendly town beach. Sunsets are best in the Fall and Spring. Cape Charles is a quiet, quaint Victorian town with galleries, shops, an exercise gym, massage therapist, restaurants, an arts center, a medical center, pharmacy, bank, Catholic Church, small grocery, skateboard park, and places to rent golf carts, bikes, kayaks, and beach gear. The historic district is surrounded by the Baycreek Resort Marina, the half mile long town beach, and the Town Harbor and Coast Guard Station, with the Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicholas golf courses nearby. We are an ideal kite-lboarding site. Check out our beach on Google Maps and see how close Monroe Ave near Harbor Ave is to the beach. Zoom in close and you will see no crowds anywhere. Come to our friendly residential town for your beach holiday, a romantic getaway, for the Birding Festival, the Power Squadron events, for a family Christmas, or a quiet cool season walk on the beach.

Cape Charles and our two harbors and half mile of beach are directly on the eastern shoreline of the Chesapeake Bay just North of Norfolk and Virginia Beach but with no crowds. Sunsets are best in the Fall and Spring. Our quiet Victorian town is served by the Norfolk International Airport about 35 miles away. The 23 mile Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel , skirting the edge of the Atlantic Ocean, separates urban sprawl from mile after mile of quiet open farmland. You can also drive down the shore from Route 50 and Washington or down from Interstate 95 to Route 1 and 13 South. You will need a car to get here, but not after you arrive, except to explore, getting a peak at the historic homes and commercial fishing harbors. You can take day trips bird watching or go to Chincoteague, the Wallops Island launch facility, the Norfolk Navy Shupyards, Virginia Beach, Bush Gardens and Williamsburg. Better yet, you can just relax and unwind away from it all. This is the good life.

Additional information about rental rates

  • Cool Season, Birding & Golf Special: 11 days for $800 September through May. Holidays included.
  • There are no hidden fees or taxes. Return the signed Rental Agreement with the $200 to secure your reservation. The deposit becomes a damage deposit sent back to you within 30 days of departure if there is nothing missing or damaged. You may cancel more than 60 days in advance and loose only your deposit. Pay the $200 deposit and half the rent ($500) by 60 days in advance or at the time of reservation and the rest ($500) by 30 days in advance or at the time of reservation if later. There is no cleaning fee or other cost for weekly rental. We accept personal bank account checks or cash. The 10% tax is 5% sales tax, 2% County occupancy tax, and 3% town occupancy tax. There are no other fees or taxes.
  • Reserve early for holiday weeks, Garden Week, Pony Penning, Birding Festival, seafood festivals, golf tournaments, and power squadron events. Fall and Winter walks on the beach are especially peaceful in Cape Charles. Many of the very best sunsets are in the Fall and Spring. The 11 days for $800 special applies also to Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter. Snow is very rare here.

  • The First floor centrally air conditioned romantic 17 x 14.5 master bedroom (with closet and bureau) allows privacy. You will enjoy brand new linens, mattress, pillows, bedcover and curtains as Bayflower Cottage was just put on the market in August 2009.. Local art decorates the walls and corner cabinets. The bathroom is nearby downstairs. Upstairs there is a futon in the top-of-stair 13 x 9 sitting room and a queen, a double and a single in the 332 sq ft family room as well as an upstairs second video player with hundreds of videos for all tastes and ages. This collection includes many childhood favorites and popular adventure films as well as no lack of hard to find classics. There is a four seat card table, a selection of puzzles and games, and a window a/c. The DVD/VIDEO/CD wide screen HiDef entertainment center is downstairs.

Notes: No smoking or pets at all. There is no telephone line but there is good cell phone coverage. Many local businesses and the library have wireless Internet. Just ask around. There is a small grocery, pharmacy, medical center, arts center, spa therapist, exercise gym, two car mechanics, automobile fuel, two hardware stores, a bait and tackle shop, post office, many churches, two pubs, a bistro, putt-putt golf, and lots of galleries and shops. The town park includes tennis courts and skateboarding park. Did I mention the half mile of beach just 6 houses away with shallow water warmed by the sun and the several hundred foot long town pier from which no fishing license is required as well as full horizon sunsets over the Chesapeake Bay? Quiet Family Oriented Town: Cape Charles historic district is a quiet Victorian residential town. Bayflower Managment is not some big corporation, but just a nearby family renting out what was our parent's beach house which they bought to be nearby after we moved here. We have just one cottage to rent and we have fixed it up to be just like you would if it were your own.
