We are approximately 7 miles from the Smith Mountain Lake State Park, which offers hiking trails, bike paths, beaches, fishing and Virginia DARE cruises of Smith Mountain Lakes 500 mile shoreline. The fall follage is our favorite and local orchards with fresh fruit along with the yearly wine festival. The National D-Day Memorial located in Bedford, VA, just 12 miles North on State Route 122 from Allendale Vacation Rental. The Memorial includes a museum, gift shop, and plaza memorial area with a triumphal arch, reflecting pool, allied flag displays, story wall and bronze statues honoring the bravery and sacrifice of Allied soldiers provide a fitting tribute to this historical event. This is one attraction you need to visit.
