Overview

Steinhatchee Cabin Rental Photos and Description

Cabin, 2 Bedrooms + Bunk Area, 1 Bath (Sleeps 6)

Our rustic-style cabin is set on a beautifully treed double lot with the Steinhatchee River its main attraction. Upstairs balcony is built right over the river, for enjoyable views of the river, along with the conservation area across from the home, which makes for a relaxing and enjoyable vacation.

Bring a small fishing boat, kayak or canoe, or rent one from the many marinas in the area, and spend some hours on the Steinhatchee River. Upstream is Steinhatchee Falls, a historic sight, and downstream is the Gulf of Mexico, known for its off-shore fishing and scalloping. We are located on the upper section of the river, where small boats are fine, but it is not deep water all the way to the Gulf.

We call our cabin 'The Riverfront Rustic'. It has solid wood walls and flooring, plain wood furniture, a great bar area with bar stools. It sits on the most lovely wooded lot overlooking the river. It is not fancy or elegant, just plain and simple with ordinary but comfortable furnishings.

'Old Florida' Getaway!: The entire setting reminds one of 'Old Florida'. The lot is a located on a dead-end road, several miles from town. With no-thru traffic, you have the peace and quiet of nature. Also, no close neighbors, it's like you have the area to yourself. The cabin used to be an old hunting camp, so it has several kennels located on the property. And it is up on stilts, so under the cabin is a concrete pad great for grilling, relaxing, sitting and looking at the River. Great spot for getting away from the hectic grind of regular life!

The cabin set-up: The cabin has two bedrooms, one with a double bed, and the other with double-double bunks. Living room has a fireplace, and LOTS of windows viewing the River. Across the River is a nature conservation, with lots of wildlife--deer, wild pigs, turkeys, owls, eagles, etc. Also the River is full of life--otters, manatees have been scene, as well as a great spot for fishing. The cabin is fully furnished, with all kitchen equipment and utensils, linens and bedding.

Location - Location - Location: Cabin located off Highway 51, down dead-end dirt road, which is perfect for a quiet and peaceful vacation.

Main features of the cabin are the fireplaces. One fireplace upstairs in the living room, for an enjoyable and cozy evening. A second fireplace is downstairs in the large concrete area open to outdoors, great for cooking marshmallows and watching the wildlife and River.

About Bethany Mousadi, Owner/Manager

We are the Mousadi Family - there are 5 of us, and we love the Steinhatchee 'Old Florida' area. This is our get-a-way cabin on the River. We bring our kayaks and spend a lot of time on the water. We also bring our boat, and dock it at River Haven Marina where we are minutes from the Gulf of Mexico for scalloping, snorkeling, fishing and enjoying the water!

We have a nice 'family friendly' cabin that we hope you will enjoy, too!

Why Bethany Mousadi, Owner/Manager chose Steinhatchee

This 'cabin in the woods' is our favorite choice for a family vacation. The kids can run and play in the big yard, ride bikes up and down the dead-end road, kayak on the water. We can enjoy the BBQ grill and the fireplace, roasting marshmellows in the evenings. We love the peace and quiet of the area, the wildlife, and the water.

A HIDDEN TREASURE. EXACTLY WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR

  • 5 of 5

This cabin is a hidden treasure. From the moment my family arrived until the moment we left The Rustic offered us peace, quiet and complete relaxation. Together with my husband, a 6 year old and an 11 year old, we took nature walks, fished from the floating dock, used both fireplaces, played catch with football and baseball in front yard, sat on a log by the river, shopped garage sales...we even brought our hanging hammock that worked perfectly on the upstairs deck. I was thrilled to see my busy kids relax and take it all in. My daughter became one with her camera...not her iPad/phone. Every meal was cooked at home with the exception of lunch at Roy's, the local better dining establishment. The process of renting this property was quick and easy. The owner was very friendly and a pleasure to work with. I was very pleased with the abundance of linens and cookware. The rant and rave over this experience hasn't ended. This will be an annual trip for my family and we're considering visits to other properties by same owners. The Rustic is my hidden treasure.

TRANQUILITY

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the "Rustic" for the coldest week of the year in November 2014 and had the best time of our lives. The cabin is awesome! If you are looking for luxury you should move on to one of the more expensive and populated areas of Florida. If you are looking for super clean lodging, comfort and peace and quiet, this is the spot! The cabin was spotlessly clean, very comfortable bed, every single item you need for cooking and the surroundings are incredible. We will be back for a week in the summer! I would highly recommend this cabin to anyone! The owners are friendly as well as what few neighbors you may or may not come in contact with. Wildlife is abundant, just watching the river flow is an awesome experience.

Cozy and peaceful for certain.

  • 4 of 5

Just as advertised, cozy and clean cabin. The facilities are not fancy, but more than comfortable. Everything you need is provided. When we stayed, the river was high and swift so didn't get to fish BUT watching the deer across the river made up for that. Very relaxing. Hope to return often.

Nature Lovers Dream

  • 5 of 5

We chose the Steinhatchee area for our winter vacation because we wanted a rural experience away from the crowds. During the winter, southern Florida is rife with snowbirds and the panhandle area seems to have row after row of high-rise condos. But the big bend region of Florida (Steinhatchee/Suwannee) is known as the forgotten coast. I think it's been forgotten because there are so few sandy beaches and little in the way of modern conveniences. Some might say it's...desolate. But it truly is a nature lover's paradise. If you're looking for a wilderness adventure, this is the place.

Steinhatchee is a small fishing village with few businesses but you can get groceries, gas, and other essentials. There are inns and marinas for boaters and charter fishing. And there are several restaurant/bars in town if you feel the need to socialize. But we were here to commune with nature and were rewarded with flora/fauna too innumerable to list. We explored the marshes, beaches, and forests with our car, bikes, and canoe. When we paddled the creeks and rivers we felt like we were in the Amazon - wild and exotic.

A nice thing about the Steinhatchee river is that the slow current allows you to paddle in either direction, eliminating the need to spot a car. The farther upriver you go, the fewer cabins you'll see until eventually there are none.

Our cabin (the"Rustic"), was cozy with all the creature comforts one might need. If there is a downside, it's that the well water, while drinkable, has a strong sulfur odor. But jugs of drinking water can be bought in town which is just a few miles down the road. No biggie, that!

We think the cabin's highlight is the spacious balcony/deck overlooking the river. If you're quiet, it isn't long before the myriad creatures come alive. At night? Stars - millions of them! That balcony is a front row seat to the best show on Earth.

There are neighboring cabins but they appear to be seasonal "get-aways" and were unoccupied during our stay (Feb/March) so things were very, very quiet. Just what we wanted. Did I say quiet? The cacophony of night noise sent shivers up our spines. Wow!

We had a very pleasant stay and owner Bethany Mousadi was charming and attentive. If you're looking for the Taj Mahal, this ain't it. But if you want a quiet, comfortably rustic cabin in a wooded area right on a beautiful river, this is the place.

We'll be back!
