Large Custom Home - Great Location!

Our family spent a wonderful week at this home during the Christmas holidays. Home is located in an area with a few other houses (some of which can be seen from this home, but not close enough to be an issue), and is located at the very end of the road so it has a very private feeling to it. (Which is what we were looking for --didn't want to be in one of those planned neighborhoods or country club settings). The home definitely has the prime lot and offers the best views of this particular neighborhood of 8-9 other private homes. Distance of house to the charming town of Highlands is fantastic! A very quick and easy ride into town and grocery store (probably about 5 minutes). Very convenient to everything!
The home itself is large and I think looks better in person than the photos capture. The owner is not local and does not appear to have a local caretaker for the home so it is not prepped on the day of your arrival (no lights on, no heat on, etc.) We wished it had a real wood burning fireplace, but didn't realize it only had gas logs until after we had booked the home. The outside fireplace on porch also has gas logs - which makes it easier to use for some, but doesn't provide the warmth or the ambience of a real fireplace! Not sure when the home had last been occupied but it was a little dusty and could have used a bit more cleaning.
We loved the fact that we were able to bring our small dog with us on our trip and thank the owner for allowing pets. It wouldn't have been Christmas without him there with us, and he adapted to the surrounds very quickly. Put him in his kennel (that we brought from home) anytime we left him alone at the home and had no issues. Found the house to be a little sparse in the furnishings. Could use a nice chest of drawers in each bedroom to allow guests to unpack their suitcases (don't think any of the 4 bedrooms had one), and TV in each bedroom would have been nice. (only in family room, master bedroom, and one downstairs in an unusual space with a couple of patio chairs which we didn't use). Couches in main room were comfortable, but the chairs were not comfy to lounge in. We cooked most meals at the home, and found the kitchen to be fairly adequate, but could use a few things. Only had 1 frying pan and needs a good set of knives - it did have nice appliances and the outdoor grill worked fine. Overall the home was a great choice and we enjoyed our stay. Home just needs a few additions and adjustments to be top notch!
