My daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed our two week October stay in Paris at Alain's studio apartment on Rue de Sevres. The studio is centrally located so that we could easily walk to many places such as to the Musee d'Orsay, Musee Cluny, the Eiffel Tower, Les Invalides, St. Germain, Notre Dame, and the Seine...within a half hour. The first week we didn`t even use the subway, but the second week we did, since it was literally across the street and provided access to two lines (10 & 12).
The studio apartment was cozy and felt safe. It included necessities for fixing small meals: coffee and tea makers. a fridge, and stovetop, and microwave. All our breakfasts were in the studio. We felt at home and slept well.
Alain, the studio owner, is tres gentil--very kind, and checked in on us a few times to see how we were doing. He is very knowledgeable about the area and provided excellent recommendations for eateries...one especially, La Charrette Creole, was exceptional. Alain speaks good English and owns the restaurant in front..Les Oiseaux. It`s always busy but our apartment was in the back so you did not hear street noise.
Alain`s choice for our cab driver is Patrick, also tres gentil. He picked us up at CDG and took us back when it was time to go home. He was patient with our attempts to carry on a conversation in French, and like Alain, showed interest in our adventures.
Merci beaucoup, Alain.
Merci beaucoup, Patrick.
Your kindness enhanced our enjoyment of Paris on this mother-daughter trip.
We stayed at Alain's apartment for 9 days for our first trip to Paris. The place is in a wonderful location for exploring all of Paris. The Metro station is right across the street and very easy to navigate. There are many restaurants and cafes in the area and they all were terrific. Shopping is also very convenient. Le Bon Marche (department store) is across the street and there were two grocery stores within blocks. With all of the kitchen amenities in the apartment, it was nice to be able to have breakfast in the morning or cheese, fruit and wine in the evening. It is a quiet location even though there are many apartments in the building and located on a busy street. It was also nice not to have to pack a hair dryer. Alain was a wonderful host. He arranged a driver to pick us up at the airport (we were able to take the Metro and RER train back to CDG). He met us at the apartment to give us the keys, his contact number and Wi-fi code. It was so nice to have good wi-fi service during our stay. He also recommended places to eat in the area. We really enjoyed our stay and would recommend this apartment to friends and family.
This apartment is in an excellent location, is very secure, and is surprisingly quiet considering its location. It is an easy walk to many of the sites in Paris. But if the sites are a little farther away, you can cross the street and catch the subway, or walk a little further to the St. Germain subway stop, and everything is close. Having a kitchen available made our stay in Paris more accommodating, since it allowed us to shop for dinner at the beautiful Grand Epicerie de Paris across the street, or at the cheaper Carrefour down the street. Alain was very nice and helpful, and very available. We were fortunate that he was able to line up cab driver Patrick to pick us up at the airport when we arrived. It was very welcoming after a long all-night plane flight, to have someone meet us and to know exactly where to take us.
This was a great trip made even better due to the accommodations. We stayed one week at Alain's studio apt in October. The apt is roomy and comfortable and because it is well-equipped you can save a lot of money while visiting Paris. There is a small fridge, microwave, cable tv, telephone and even a laptop to use for access to the internet at no charge. That's a huge savings when you would consider what you would pay at a hotel. I kept in touch with my family daily by email which was awesome. There are many easy and inexpensive meals available as we were within a short easy walking distance from bakeries, take out restaurants, and grocery stores. Since the studio has a microwave, coffee maker, dishes, silverware etc. we were able to save by eating in some of our meals. Of course, you're in Paris and don't want to do that too much but every little bit helps when you are traveling and dealing with the conversion rates too. Also there is a very hot and powerful shower which is important to me, as well as a blow dryer and iron! It is not a luxurious place but is spacious, clean, and comfortable and has everything you need to feel at home away from home.
Alain is a very kind and conscientious host. He met us at the door when we arrived. Gave us the code to use to enter the courtyard area which is locked at night and his cell phone number for any questions. He also recommended several good places to eat. There is a metro station a few steps from the door too which made this a safe and supremely convenient place to stay. This is perfect for a single, couple or maybe a group of three friends. I think it would be an excellent choice for those traveling on a budget or for an extended period of time. I think it would also be great for people visiting relatives in Paris or visiting Paris on business. I would stay here again when I come back and I hope to!
Alain’s studio apartment made a fine home base for a couple of temporary Parisians from Chicago. The futon bed is very comfy and the shower is good and hot. The little kitchen area provides everything you might expect, including a coffee maker and microwave. The location can't be beat: it's literally right across the street from the Metro. You can stroll to the heart of the St.-Germain-des-Pres neighborhood in 10 minutes or so, and from there it’s just another 10-minute stroll to the Seine. The Marche Raspail street market is around the corner. Alain provided a laminated map which points you towards a nearby laundry, post office, etc. There is very little street noise, since the apartment is inside a courtyard. (One could wish that a few residents would get out of the habit of letting the courtyard door fall slam behind them, but it's not a big problem).
Alain is a very helpful and friendly gent, even providing a computer for us to use. Since we don't travel with the latest tech, the computer turned out to be a very, very handy tool.
The Les Oiseaux café is right downstairs in the same building. It’s a warm, friendly place to sip coffee and people-watch (closed on Sundays). The apartment also turned out to be around the corner from the Chapel of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal, which my fiancé's mom had told us we must visit. This chapel is a bit tucked away and not as sung-of as some of the other sites, but popping in there turned out to be one of the most powerful stops of our trip.
We would stay at Alain’s place again the next time we come to Paris, which we hope will be soon.
Highly recommend this property. We stayed here in early September for 5 nights. The location is quiet and is in a very safe neighbourhood. The apartment has everything you need but you do need to provide your own soap/toilet paper which was not an issue. There is a grocery store about 5 minutes out the door to the left. If you take a right and walk about 10-15 minutes you will find lively streets which are full of restaurants and bars if you are looking for an evening out. It is quite quiet at this location which is a plus. Alain was a great host and everything from the booking to the checkout was smooth. The apartment has high speed Internet/wifi and tv with a wide variety of channels. Sites are within reasonable walking distance. I would say 20 minutes to the tower/louvre. We decided to walk to most of the sites as this is probably the best way to see Paris but if you want to take the bus or subway it's just across the street. If you are into shopping there are plenty of shops nearby.
