Mana Kai Maui is an eight-story resort situated right on a beautiful white-sand cove of the Keawakapu Beach, one of the best and also most kids-friendly beaches on Maui. Our condo is on the 7th floor with unobstructed views of the ocean and outer islands.

One of the best snorkeling reefs is just steps away, and you are within minutes from upscale shopping and restaurants in Wailea or more affordable, surfer-spirited Kihei. Golf courses and tennis courts are nearby.

We love this place and hope you’ll like it too!

My wife and I spent 7 nights at the Mana Kai #708. What was good:

• location, location, location

• view...spectacular! Whale watching from our lanai!

• separate bedroom suite

• clean, internet access, free phone in NA.

• great pool, lawn area for guest only...and the security does check if you stay there!

• air condition in bedroom

Why Mana Kai: In 1998, we stayed for the first time at the Mana Kai Maui with out 6-months old son. It was love at the first sight: we've been back every year! After 6-7 visits, we decided to buy the condo. It is our happy place - everyone in the family loves it there! It's so beautiful, peaceful, and convenient too. The Mana Kai is right on the beach - we fall asleep to the sound of the waves and wake up to the songs of birds; we watch whales from the lanai and go snorkeling without driving anywhere; we love to stroll along the seemingly endless, most beautiful and uncrowded beaches of the South Shore. We hope your experience will be just as wonderful!

GREAT LOCATION

We loved the location and the condo building itself was quite fine. The open aired lobby made coming and going to/from the ocean and pool easy. Our actual unit was decent for the most part. Kitchen is large, closets ample. It could've used some hooks in the dressing area to hang towels and such from. Improvements could be made: multiple light bulbs need replacing, one fan remote needs batteries, the toilet in the main bath isn't securely tightened to the floor!, and there are no fans in either bathroom. The worst part of the unit is the front door. It was extremely heavy to open, and shutting was difficult. We spent way too much time messing with that difficulty. However, the patio gets no wind, which is a good thing since cards and napkins don't go flying away. View is wonderful. So, it's a mixed bag. The price was good for this building. If they fix those simple fixes, this unit would be wonderful.

Owner's Response: Please, please contact our property manager on the island with ANY problems during your stay! Fixing those small things is what I'm paying him for. All his contact info is in your check-in instructions. There's a supply of replacement bulbs and batteries in the unit - just one call/text/email would resolve the issue. Front door is the same as in 97 other units at Mana Kai - closing lanai doors before you exit the unit helps to relieve wind pressure a lot.

LOVE STAYING AT THE MANI KAI MAUI.

I love staying at the Mani Kai and have stayed in several units. I think the location of your unit is great. The kitchen was very nice, clean and easy to move around in.
We needed to buy a frying pan as the unit only contained a medium size ( we left this to be used at the unit) and since we had 4 adults and 2 children we needed something larger. Otherwise, the kitchen was well equipped and we were very satisfied.
The actual beds were very comfortable and the bedding was fine. Our complaint is about the sofa. Seems to be very worn and uncomfortable, the fold out bed was horrible, it was like laying directly on the springs. We have stayed on many fold out beds so it was not our first experience and this one was by far the worst.
The bathrooms were not as nice as I expected. Since you said this unit was recently updated I expected to find a nice bathroom with walk in showers and
and new counters. I didn't like taking showers with a moldy shower curtain liner, easily cleaned or replaced for a couple of dollars.
All in all we enjoyed our stay in your unit as the good certainly outranked the bad. Since we come every year and stay from 2-5 weeks I would consider your unit again if I knew you had at least updated your sofa.
I would also like to thank you for allowing us to stay the extra day at 1/2 price so we could enjoy the day before we left for the airport.

GREAT VALUE BUT A FEW CONS

See all the pros in all the other reviews. Still 5 star review as you cant beat the value on the beach with free long distance. Now a few things you should know.

1) Air conditioning is only in the back bedroom and it fails to circulate throughout and cool down the bed in the living room. Tradewinds alleviate the problem, but on most nights they were absent during our 3 week stay.

2) The pullout bed should not be considered a bed. You can feel every spring and honestly the floor ended up more comfortable. If you plan on using go to walmart and buy a foam topper or an air mattress for the ground.

3) Minor, but there are little bugs living in the grout around the tub and kitchen. They are smaller than an ant and look harmless. Probably common throughout similar climates.

4) No bbq grill utensils or steak knives. There are two grills that must be reserved for the whole complex. Seems like it might be a problem but it didnt seem that busy.

5) No carry over items. There was salt and pepper and a beach pail and shovel. Like us, Im sure a lot of people buy stuff and leave it behind for the next as good karma. I have a feeling the cleaners really clean up after. We bought two fans, spices, butter, spray, toilet paper, cooler for the beach, chairs. etc etc. But we did not leave them at this unit, we passed them on to new arrivals so they could be used instead of taken home.

5) In room safe is an awesome feature but batteries are dead upon arrival. Ed came and fixed but then with a couple days left it stayed opened and lit (probably why the batteries were dead when we arrived)

I think the owner does have a locker at the front of the unit with a cooler and valuable beach items but we were not given access to that. This could easily demand a much higher price if the air was added (approx $20k addition), bathrooms done with fans added (would reduce moisture and mold), new pullout sofa bed, and access to beach cooler, chairs, etc.

Overall still a great value and the owner was a true gentleman to deal with. You can't go wrong renting this unit even with the little cons. But if a sleeping in a hotter environment is an issue for you, you may want to consider one of the 20 or so units in the building with air in both areas of the suite.

Owner's Response: Wow, that’s the worst 5-star review I’ve got so far! Thanks for the feedback though: always appreciated, whether you’re satisfied with your stay or not. A few comments in response:
- We’ll replace a pullout bed, but even the new one will still be a pullout bed – don’t expect miracles;
- Ghost ants come and go – please report to the property manager so he can schedule a treatment;
- Steak knives and utensils should be in the condo – if anything is missing, please let our property manager know to buy replacements;
- Anything that’s typically taken out of the condo (cooler, beach chairs, toys, BBQ utensils, etc.) has a tendency to not come back (lost/broken/left outside).
Many guests leave the items that they acquired (or received from other guests) in the guest closet, and it’s very much appreciated by next guests. At any given time, you might find an assortment of beach gear and toys in there, but we cannot guarantee it. We only provide items listed in the Rental Agreement: linens, bath and beach towels, and a starter supply of bath soap, laundry detergent, dish soap, dishwasher detergent, paper towels and toilet paper – if any of those are missing on your arrival, please notify our property manager.
- Safe had a short somewhere, draining the batteries – will be replaced.
- Insinuation about cleaners is really a cheap shot: they cannot defend themselves here, and they’ve been doing a great job keeping the condo clean and ready.
- The locker in front of the unit is called “owner closet” for a reason – that’s the only part of our condo that we’re not sharing with guests.
- When you consider 20 or so units mentioned, also consider that they would cost you up to $200/night more than what this guest paid for his stay.
Our approach always was to keep the unit upgraded and comfortable, but also affordable for families with kids – our main audience – and they are not the kind to pay $100/night or more for recessed lights and such.
