Overview

Sonoma House Rental Photos and Description

3 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms, 1 half bathroom, sleeps 6

This warm and charming house, a true Sonoma craftman's style built in 1891, sits on almost half an acre of land, totally enclosed to give you privacy and let you forget about the world. A nearby walking trail leads to Sonoma Plaza.

The main bedroom features a plush California king sized bed. The second and third bedrooms each have a pillow-top queen bed. Views of the Sonoma hillside are available from all bedrooms.

Relax and unwind in the lounge chairs just outside the covered back porch. To the right is a hot tub for four with an outdoor shower station, and to the left is an eating area for six with a three burner BBQ. Take a siesta after a nice meal, lie down and swing gently on the hammock for two.

The garden offers delights seasonally through year with 30 fruit trees and shrubs (peach, apple, pear, tangerine, pommelo, orange, grapefruit). Among the grove of the trees, settle back in a rocking chair, or relax on the comfortable sectional sofa under a gazebo.

Game Room: A recreation room has been added recently, with an 8' pool table, a 55' TV connected to HD cable box and Blue Ray DVD player, and a lounge/ bar area.

Wireless Connectivity: There is wireless connectivity throughout the property, so you can go to the internet with your laptop from the gazebo, the cabana, the porches, the game room or the al fresco dining area.

Orchard in A Garden Setting: There are different fruit and berries for different seasons. In spring time, there are 2 different kinds of cherries and strawberries. In summer there is an abundance of plums, followed by apricots, then yellow and white nectarines, ending with peaches. Blackberries, gold and red raspberries, along with 7 different kinds of table grapes are common in late summer. A couple varieties of apples, pears, and figs herald the arrival of fall, with chocolate and coffee cake persimmons and pomegranates ending the season. Winter is celebrated with Cara Cara oranges, limes, pommelo, grapefruit, tangerines and citron. When the all the citrus trees bloom in late winter, the whole property is perfumed with the most refreshing, soft and sweet smell. A new 3-1 pluot tree has just been planted in 2009, along with a sweet kiwi vine. Please note that due to different weather conditions, fruit yield and harvest time may vary from year to year.

Amadora in Sonoma - Excellent!

  • 5 of 5

My wife, daughter, two granddaughters, and youngest son stayed at Amadora for a week prior to and just following our other son's wedding to a local Sonoma lass. Our son lives in Sonoma, too, so we know the area quite well. We were very pleased with the house, extra room (billiard room with bathroom/shower & sleeper couch), and gardens. We also had a brother-in-law and his wife for a couple of nights; they are quite discerning and really liked the house as did our new daughter-in-law's parents! Our youngest son (22) stayed in the billiard room and appreciated it greatly.

The main house has a very nice kitchen, dining room, living room, sun room (with french doors), three bedrooms, and 1 and 1/2 bathrooms (the latter by one of the rooms). The beds are very comfy! The entire house has wonderful windows that provide beautiful sunlight and open easily for morning cooling. The large porch with chairs was a treat, especially for the girls!

The garden is beautiful and fun to wander through; we enjoyed the greenhouse, and the covered seating area with its fountain and chandelier. We also enjoyed sampling fruit from the trees, grapevines, berries and strawberries, as well as the many flowers! Although we did not have the time to enjoy either the hot tub or BBQ, they are very nice and we wish we could have used them.

Although about a mile from the Plaza, Amadora is actually well-situated. The biking/walking path to the downtown/Plaza area is nearby and is a very nice walk/ride that takes one past the Vallejo family house (run by State Parks). Driving into town is very easy, especially if one takes Verano east from the house rather than using Hwy 12. (Check a map.) A grocery store, drug store, and Starbucks are nearby (about 1/8 mile away), and restaurants are nearby, too. A park with many walking paths is just across Hwy 12. And the delightful Sonoma wineries to the north are easily accessed on via Hwy 12 or Arnold Drive. (IMHO, Sonoma wines and the Sonoma Valley are better than Napa.)

Joe is very well organized and easy to work with; he explains everything and even provided a binder (on the dining room table) that answered every question about the house and gardens. The housekeeper had the house ready and in great shape; the gardener does a fine job, too. Access by foot and vehicle is very good; parking behind large gates is ample for two vehicles and there is parking on-street, too.

Thank you very much for everything, Joe!

Perfect family vacation home!

  • 5 of 5

We had a FABULOUS time in Amadora. It was absolutely perfect for our family reunion (with two boys, ages 10 and 13, plus grandmother). We relished soaking up the sun on the porch and in the sun room, enjoying the hot tub, and especially, savoring the delectable tangerines, cara cara oranges, and pomelos. What a treat to pick fresh fruit for our breakfast in the middle of winter!

Amadora is beautifully furnished, with 2.5 baths, classy and homey at the same time, very well stocked, and charming. We spent a lot of time running around charming Sonoma, Napa, and Calistoga, (often following Joe's excellent suggestions) but our favorite day was the one when we went out to breakfast at the Fremont Diner and then spent the rest of the day at home! Our family loved playing pool and enjoying movies from the house's great film collection. We also loved walking and hiking along the bike path that was so close to home. There's a great hike behind the Vallejo home that we enjoyed.

Joe's many suggestions were really helpful and made our stay so enjoyable; so was the bottle of wine that greeted us on arrival! We really liked tasting wine at the Roche tasting room on the plaza and had a wonderful meal at Oso (as well as Girl and the Fig). Our favorite meals were also at the Fremont Diner and of course at El Molina Central.

Thank you, Joe, so much for sharing your home and for all of the care that you take in hosting your guests. We have rented homes in London, Hawaii, and Seattle, and we have had great experiences in all locations. But Amadora beats them all! We will definitely return one day. We'd love to see the garden in the summer time!

Wonderful home for the Holidays

  • 5 of 5

Our family stayed at this wonderful property for Christmas 2014. It was everything we could have hoped for. A beautiful Christmas tree awaited us as did a delicious bottle of welcome wine. The home is very old, but beautifully upgraded and perfectly maintained. The three bedrooms were comfy and suited our family perfectly. If there wasn't so much to enjoy in Sonoma, I think we all could have stayed in bed well past breakfast time. The game room and pool table were a wonderful bonus, as were the closet filled with board games. The kitchen was perfect for making our Christmas dinner and lacks for absolutely nothing. If you should choose to stay here, pick a blood orange or two from the tree. Delish!! Thank you, Joe for a special holiday.

The Best Vacation Home Ever!

  • 5 of 5

We spent an amazing week at Amadora with our adult children; it was truly the most welcoming and well-appointed home we have ever rented. The house is beautifully furnished with plenty of space for relaxing or entertaining. The kitchen is spacious and well-equipped, and a very nice gas grill and outdoor dining area makes evening meals 'al fresco' a special treat. The game room in a separate building on the property has a pool table, two sofas, and a wide-screen TV. We were lucky enough to have some friends visit us while we were at Amadora, and entertaining them was as easy and as comfortable as if we were in our own home. Joe (the owner) provided us with a literal book full of information on extra amenities, restaurants, wineries, and activities, and he even has arranged some special discounts at some activities for guests of Amadora. But by far the best feature of this wonderful home is its gardens - the entire property is covered with fruit trees, herbs, and flowers of every variety. We feasted all week on fresh figs, peaches, raspberries, and tomatoes from the garden. What a wonderful bonus! We will certainly return to Amadora next year.

Couldn't have been better!

  • 5 of 5

I rented the house for my girlfriends' trip to wine country. We could not have been happier!! Our jaws literally dropped when we saw the property and amount of space. The gardens and outdoor sitting areas were magnificent. With 3 bedrooms plus a game room/guest house and extra shower we had plenty of space for 5 ladies. The hot tub was a nice treat too. We wished we could stay longer. The location is so convenient for dinner in town or visiting wineries. It's great to be in town and able to walk places, plus the size of the lot and tall privacy fence made it feel more secluded than an in-town property. Highly recommend!!

Great place to stay while visiting Sonoma!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time in Sonoma. Six of us were in town for a friend's wedding and we decided to rent a house rather than stay at a pricey hotel...it was the best decision!

The house was clean and cozy. We fell in love with the garden and loved to lounge in the Gazebo. We used to the grill as well to cook dinner and enjoyed the hot tub on a couple of nights, it was fantastic!

One thing to note is that the 2nd full bathroom is in the game room which is separate from the house. No big deal, just good to know.

Joe (the owner) was more than helpful providing us with countless lists of things to do in the area, even offering us a discount tour at Benzinger winery. We look forward to going back to Sonoma and Amadora House very soon!
