Great house in the middle of nowhere, yet close to nearby attractions. We had a great time visiting with friends and relatives. Plenty of room to spread out. The bonfire, smoker and hot tub were used every night. We were greeted our first night by a roaring fire in the wood-burning stove, what a great way to start a vacation!
The little general store at the end of the street was great, not very big, but had the necessities. Don't miss Perry's Main Street Eatery in Poultney for some great homecooking.
I would recommend this to friends and family.

Outdoor Adventure - With All The Comforts of Home!

Billy Bourbon Port Jefferson, NY
Review Submitted: July 23, 2009 Date of Stay: November 2008
My family and I stayed here over Thanksgiving 2008 and it was a fantastic experience, just what we were looking for in planning our perfect American Holiday. The Farmhouse is spotless with brand new appliances, flat screens TVs, and a fabulous kitchen and big country dining table. The kids LOVED the loft. There is an additional bedroom downstairs (with door to outside) and small gym with treadmill/weights that I don't think are shown here! I got a run in every morning while catching the news on TV, which for me was a great bonus.

If you like the outdoors as much as we do, this is the place for you. It is very secluded, with a rolling meadow and woodland, yet very easy to access. There are great trails through meadows/forests for hiking or quad, and one leads unexpectedly to a spectacular "overlook" - be sure to ask about this and don't miss it. I did not go prepared to hunt, but there were deer literally everywhere. If you are a hunter I can't think of a better spot, but you should ask the owner for more details on hunting his property. While there is plenty of land to explore and spectacular views, the grounds around the house are well manicured with a very large expanse of mowed grass and a parking area, and a great spot for an evening bonfire. The pond is only a short walk from the house, and easily visible from the front porch so we were able to keep a clear eye on the kids.

The porch wraps half way around the house and has a covered section, and a larger uncovered area with a hot tub that we used every night during our stay (spectacular stars!). There is also a home-made brick/stone smoker and plenty of wood where we slow-cooked ribs one day while we relaxed around a bonfire. There was also a smaller BBQ grill on the porch.

A group from our party did venture off to try to ski, and it is indeed less than 1/2 hour from Killington (Rutland). There may be something closer, but I'm not sure. I'm more of a golfer, and given the unusually mild weather I headed straight for Lake St. Catherine Golf Club which is literally 5 minutes away.

The owners are very easy to deal with. We had a fantastic time, and would go back again in a heartbeat. Looking at the pictures, I look forward to visting in the summer when everything is green for some more golf and relaxation. But if you enjoy the outdoors in the fall/winter (while still having all the comforts of home - and then some), you will not be dissapointed.

All season paradise

Dave and Nina Massapequa, NY USA
Review Submitted: July 22, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
I have had the good fortune of spending several long weekends in this southern Vermont paradise, and have done so during all 4 seasons. I've caught bass on nearly every cast in the pond in the summertime, and skated on the same pond in the sunset with my nephew in the winter. The views are breathtaking and the grounds are an outdoorsmans/womans dream. Calling this home a "cabin" understates its charm and comfort. The owner is a former builder of homes in the Hamptons, and his touch here is something to be experienced. The property is wonderfully secluded, but that much needed gallon of milk (or half gallon of vodka) is only a short 10 minute drive into lovely Poultney. Hunt, fish, ski, skate, or find your way in the woods to the "lookout", where you can spot just about every peak in the Adirondacks to the west. If you want it, it can be had here. You'll need the hot tub or the warm woodburning stove to soothe you after a long day in the greatest of the outdoors. The only drawback is that you'll have to leave. Highly recommended.
