Looking for a wooded retreat but don’t want to spend hours in traffic? In the Twin Cities for business or vacation?
Located on Lake O’Dowd, this 11.5-acre Private Island, you'll have all to yourself, is approximately 34 minutes to MSP airport & 30 minutes to downtown Minneapolis.
Experience the peaceful seclusion of a stunning & unspoiled wilderness setting while enjoying every modern amenity. The lovely air-conditioned cottage (the only house on the island) has 2 bedrooms, a living & dining room & a full bath & sleeps 5. Unwind & watch HD satellite TV or pop in a DVD & kick back.
Park on our mainland lot & take one of the small boats provided to the island. For larger boats, ask us about a local rental company that rents all things marine. Or bring your own boat! Have fun fishing, water skiing, tubing, exploring the island, or just relaxing on the deck. Take advantage of everything this spectacular island has to offer. Once you do, you will want to return again & again.
Diverse Natural Island Beauty: The 11.5 acre island has an array of diverse terrain. There are hiking trails, hills, sandy shores, a large bay, rocky outcroppings, grassy knolls and a hardwood forest. You can catch a glimpse of deer, weasels, raccoons, muskrats, Great Blue Heron, wood ducks and a variety of song birds. You may hear an occasional hoot of the Great Horned Owl. If your stay is in the summer, you can catch the fireflies twinkling throughout the night. The island is in the middle of a fully recreational lake teaming with bass, walleye, northern and muskie. You can cast your line right from the dock on the island or the mainland lot.
Docks, Boats, Life Jackets & Fishing Gear: Available for your use is a 17 ft canoe & a 12 ft jon boat. We also provide life jackets & a modest supply of fishing gear - 2 rods & reels, small box of lures, fishing net & 5 gal bucket. If you'd like a motorized boat, you may bring your own motor to use on the jon boat. It will accommodate a trolling motor or an outboard motor, up to 6 hp - max wt 86 lbs. There are two 18 ft docks for your use - one on the island & one on the mainland. The island is only about 135 ft from the mainland, so it's a quick crossing.
Even though the island is quite large, outdoor camping (tents, etc.) is not allowed, due to the fact that it is in a residential area. Also, no campfires or firearms are allowed on the island or our mainland lot.
Reservations & Payments & Check In & Out Times: Reservations made at least 14 days prior to rental are preferred. However, contact Cindy to check into last minute rentals. No same day reservations.
All payments are made through PayPal.
Check In time is between noon & 4 PM.
Check out time must be by noon.
Be sure to bring sturdy hiking shoes for all! The island has several trails, but they are rustic in nature with uneven terrain, so good hiking shoes are a must.
The cottage is approximately 165 feet up a hill from the lake & we provide a dolly to carry your belongings up from shore.
We provide just about everything you could possibly need during your stay, except food, clothes & your own personal toiletries (although we do stock plenty of shampoo, creme rinse, body wash. suntan lotion, bug spray, etc).
And no need to bring bottled water unless you just can't go a day without having it with you. We provide softened & filtered water that comes from our private well deep in the earth (approximately 380 feet down).
