Enjoy the peace and quiet and fantastic views from the first Guest Cottage in Lake City. We opened for business in 1996, just one year after VRBO was started. Sixteen years later and we still have the best location in town. Off the main road, but within walking distance of all the city has to offer. Lake views from every room. Close enough to the lake to hear the lapping waves (if there is enough wind to make waves).
The cottage was built in 1908 and renovated in 1996 (hurray for indoor plumbing and electricity). It sits just across a small side street (no parking on either side) from the shores of Lake Pepin, the largest natural lake on the Mississippi River. Right across the street is Ohuta Park which has a fountain commemorating the birth of waterskiing at this location in 1922. At the far end of the park is the municipal beach and beyond that is the city marina; the largest small boat marina on the upper Mississippi River (call 651-345-4211 for slip rental).
The house is finished in period style with wood floors, vintage wallpaper and bead board walls. There is an antique porch swing on the front porch, more seating in the screened in porch and a sundeck off the upstairs bedroom.

My wife and I lived in Lake City for over 20 years. We fell in love with the house the first time we saw it. We thought we may retire there one day, but then got horses, chickens, dogs, cats, etc. and decided to retire to Northern Nevada. We still come to visit, but leave the pets at home.
The house has a lot of character and the view is spectacular. The house sits on a bend in the street so that it has unobstructed views of the lake from the front and side.
While the house sits on a quiet side street it is only blocks from the marina, downtown shops and restaurants, tennis courts and beach. There are gorgeous views of the Lake and the Wisconsin Bluffs in the distance from every room. Stay put and enjoy the view and relax in the 6' Jacuzzi tub (room for two) or explore the town on foot.
Arrive by boat if you want! The cottage is only 2 blocks from the Lake City Municipal Marina. Transient slips are available; call for reservations on summer weekends at 651-345-4211.
