CHARMING COTTAGE ON SUNSET LAKE IN SCENIC HAMPSTEAD, N.H.

Hampstead Cottage Rental Photos and Description

2 bedrooms, 1 sleep sofa. Sleeps 6. 1 bathroom

Relax in rustic comfort on beautiful spring-fed Sunset Lake. Enjoy swimming, boating or fishing in our crystal clear lake - a dock and floating raft are available and if you're lucky you might even catch a large bass right from the end of the dock. In the evening, see the spectacular sunset from our screened-in porch right at the water's edge.

We have 120' of waterfront and offer privacy yet proximity to local attractions. Bring a good book and stretch out in a corner of our large, shady two-level deck as the cool lake breezes and beautiful flowers provide an idyllic setting for a lazy summer afternoon. Our lakehouse is perfect in the summer but also ideal in the fall and makes a wonderful destination for a romantic weekend getaway. Curl up in front of the fireplace with a glass of wine in the evening after you've spent the day leaf-peeping and visiting a local apple orchard.

You will not find cable tv or internet access at our cottage. We do have cool lake breezes that coax the wind chimes to softly lull you to sleep. We do have the sound of a loon piercing the quiet afternoon as well as the swish of a canoe gliding through the water. You may be awakened by a splash from a fish breaking through the surface of the water in search of an insect or a family of ducks flapping noisily in the lake. If you decide to sleep on the porch, you may be awakened by the sound of rain tapping on the roof. This is a place to enjoy nature in all it's many forms. Among the few concessions we have to modern technology are a Bose radio/cd system with a docking station and a dvd player.

Note: We are a non-smoking residence.

Guestbook comments from the owner
Janice,

There aren't the right words to say "thank you" enough. Because of you letting us stay here, we got our first ever family vacation. After everything our family has gone through in the past several years we had almost forgotten how to completely relax and have a stress free, fun time. We had so much fun!! The paddle boat is a wonderful addition. This place is magical and this was exactly what our family has been needing for the longest time. I just wish we could stay longer. Camden now believes your cabin, not the state, is New Hampshire. He has been walking around for days saying "I love New Hampshire". Thank you so much for giving us so many warm and wonderful memories to bring home with us that we have needed so much. We will be sending you pictures via email and seeing you again next year.

Thank you again from the bottom of our hearts!

Relaxing Cottage

  • 5 of 5
This cottage was an ideal destination for relaxation. We spent most hours of the day on the floating dock and deck lounging in the sun. The water was very clear and enjoyable to swim in. The screened in porch is a very nice location to watch over the lake in the evening. The grill made it very easy for us to prepare our own meals, but having the village only a few minutes away is nice for some late night ice cream.

Janice, our stay here was exactly what we needed. Thank you for being so kind and providing us with your cottage for the week.

Everything I was hoping for!

  • 5 of 5
Having not been to this lake in 20+ yrs I was thrilled to find this wonderful retreat! Now, I'm an adult and I came up with my wife and young son and I don't know who had more fun him or I. Janice is a gracious host and her cabin is so warm and welcoming, it feels like home almost. The true essence of a retreat: no wifi or tv (just a DVD player) leaving plenty of time for the paddle boat, grilling, jumping off the dock, swimming, tanning, and fishing (there are rods, life jackets, oars, floats, a blow up boat, snorkel+mask, lawn chairs for you just in case). I caught many bass and a pickerel off the dock just before sunsets. The 3 season porch is nice for relaxing with a book, watching sunrise/set, escaping from the grandkids (my parents+niece came up for a day and night and my dad escaped for an hour or two) or if you're lucky watching a thunder+lightening storm at night like we did (7/23). Son and wife fell asleep listening to the rain on the couch. Luckily for us, the weather cooperated the entire trip other than that night. It wasn't too hot or too cold and the water was perfect, just refreshing. Don't worry about the outdoor shower, it's completely private and covered and there's something to be said about showering "in the elements". All in all, one of the best vacations I've had in my adult life so far.

Recommendations: have water shoes for everyone if you're going in the water from the shore. The mussels that are there are an invasive species and it's nothing to do with Janice, but if you're jumping off the dock you will be fine as the mussels aren't really out that deep and it's probably over your head (7+ feet). And it seems all kids have water shoes nowadays, they didn't exist when I was a kid! The mussels also make good free fish bait, but even though they're edible a quick google search doesn't recommend eating them. Bring up DVDs for everyone in case the weather doesn't cooperate, but there are are games and plenty of decks of cards and cribbage boards just in case. Don't worry about anything if you forgot something when packing, there's a Walmart, BJ's, target, cvs, ATMs, breakfast joints, hannaford's, ice cream shops, and Dunkin's all in driving distance from you and whatever else I didn't find!

To conclude, just a beautiful place to unwind and recharge the batteries. You're not far from anything, but being the last place on the road and right on the water made it feel that way. Don't worry, you'll survive without the wifi and tv.

This vacation spot was just perfect!

  • 5 of 5
This rental provided everything we needed for our end of the summer excursion. My youngest celebrated her 9th birthday, and thought it was one of her best birthdays. My oldest really enjoyed swimming and floating around on one of the floats provided. My husband and I practiced our canoeing (which isn't as easy it may seem, but super fun). The property was very private, and allowed not only the family to enjoy the lake, but our dog had a blast too! He only stopped swimming because he was exhausted. What a great spot for our family, and we would recommend it to anyone looking for a little slice of New Hampshire's nature at its finest!

Owner's Response: Kristin, it was such a pleasure having you and your family (and pooch) spend a few days at our cottage as summer was winding down. I loved the note you left in my guest book about how it was the first time that your husband swam in 5 years and how you ran and jumped off the dock like a kid. Your abundant enthusiasm and zest for life were just awesome. And thank you for describing our cottage as a "gem" and letting me know how much your family enjoyed it. I hope you made some wonderful memories, including celebrating Morgan's 9th birthday, at the lake.

The flowers you left on the table for me were so beautiful they are now featured on my HomeAway photo of the breakfast nook! I couldn't ask for a nicer family to share our cottage at the end of summer and I hope you'll come back again. Next time, we have a paddle boat you'll enjoy which is definitely not as tricky as the canoe and doesn't tip over, either!

Relaxing cabin stay

  • 5 of 5
We had a great stay at the cabin. The lake is gorgeous - very clear and clean. We spent 90% of our waking time outdoors, either in the canoe or in the tubes. We caught several fish around the lake in the canoe - and we managed to get around the whole lake with the canoe. We grilled out both nights and loved being able to have our dog with us. Janice was very accommodating and was on sight to greet us and give us a tour. Overall it was a great weekend in a beautiful area of the country. Insider tip - the gas station down the street has good coffee in the morning!

Relaxation on the water

  • 4 of 5
My family and I enjoyed 3 nights at Janice's cabin on the water. The cabin had everything we needed, and the owner, Janice, could not have been more friendly and accommodating. It was very quiet during the week and we enjoyed the large deck, just relaxing and looking at the lake. Having my morning coffee on the screened porch overlooking the calm lake became a favorite of mine during out stay. We spent the days swimming, canoeing and being dog friendly was a huge plus for us! Overall this is a great vacation spot for families, especially those looking to bring their dog along!

Just how we remembered it.

  • 5 of 5
This was our second time staying here and we had a great time once again. It feels like our home away from home. There are beautiful sunsets to watch, plenty of fish to catch and great spots to just sit, relax and read a good book.

It is nice to be able to take our two dogs with us on vacation and not have to worry about boarding them. They even get to go for a swim.

The grill was upgraded since our last visit and was used to its full potential. We were able to have several relaxing meals on the deck while looking out at the beautiful lake.

There are several eateries not too far, just in case you want to enjoy a nice dinner out. We enjoyed a tasty meal at Lobster Q, which serves great sea food as well as barbeque. Interesting combination, but it works.

Janice is very nice and willing to do whatever she needs to make the stay enjoyable. We will definitely be making another trip up to her cottage.

Thanks again Janice,

--Matt and Carrie W. (Naugatuck, CT)
