This wonderful vacation home is located directly on the shores of Saginaw Bay (Lake Huron) with a large, private sandy beach and spectacular sunsets. This is a ranch style home with a walk-out lower level. There are two bedrooms, both with queen beds, as well as a new queen pull-out sofa located in a den which is 75% private. There are two full bathrooms (one on each floor). The home is set up for one or two families to enjoy their own personal space, as both the upstairs and downstairs have a kitchen and living area.
The kitchens are fully stocked with microwave, toaster, coffee pot, dishes, pots & pans, utensils, etc. There is also a washer and dryer available for your use. Please bring your own towels and linens. There is a tv and dvd player for your enjoyment indoors.
There is a large deck off the main floor that is perfect for relaxing, eating, and enjoying the views and sunsets (the property actually faces west on the thumb of Michigan). The lower floor walks out to a large grassy area with a fire pit and picnic table, before leading onto the sugar sand beach. There is a gas grill for your use, as well as two kayaks. The water is perfect for families as there is a large beach and shallow area in the water.
The home is located two miles from the quaint village of Port Austin which has great restaurants (including fine dining), shops, bars, and a large farmers market every Saturday during the summer. There are plenty of family attractions in Port Austin, such as a waterfront park with large play structure and putt-putt golf.
This is a wonderful vacation destination where you can relax by the lake during the day and enjoy a campfire under the stars at night. Get away from it all and come stay in Port Austin!
This comfortable cottage is very well maintained, clean, and in a nice, small neighborhood of other well maintained cottages (people obviously take pride in their properties!); a great place for a home away from home. The kitchen, dining, and living areas both upstairs and down provided beautiful views of Lake Huron and easy access to a grassy lawn, sandy beach, and the lake. There was plenty of room inside the cottage to accommodate different interests after daylight hours; whether playing board games, reading, surfing the net, or watching a movie there was space for all. Abundant outdoor furniture provided plenty of space for our family of six to eat, enjoy the outdoors, and the beautiful sunsets. Lake Huron has some rocky shore areas so water shoes are helpful to have. The water level was low as well when we visited but we found the additional rock and plant life a fascinating place to walk and see wildlife including clams, frogs, schools of small fish darting about, and Great Blue Herons who frequently stopped and stood near the shore.
The Village of Port Austin is nearby and offers perfectly adequate conveniences for a small town. We enjoyed the park, mini-golf, the Lighthouse and the Bank restaurants, and shopped at the Port Austin Market (a small grocery store), hardware store, souvenir shop, and Mermaid’s Cove - a favorite place for works by local artists.
Any questions or inquiries we had before or during our trip were responded to promptly, efficiently, and in a very friendly manner. (Thanks!) We found the description and photos of this property to be accurate and reflective of the rental property and amenities.
Our only regret for the trip was that the weather was too windy to allow for safe kayaking to Turnip Rock - we’ll have to plan a return trip! Good kite-flying location though!
The house was very neat and clean. Our 1 year old daughter had started walking the week before and this house was perfect for her. We could easily shut the door and block the stairs when we were inside and there was plenty of lawn and beach for her to roam around. We enjoyed the beautiful sunsets either sitting on the upper deck or by the fire pit.
There are 2(!) kitchens which was a nice feature that I never knew I wanted but was glad to have. We planned ahead for the majority of our meals and made them at the house, and we were happy that we did so as Port Austin didn't offer a ton of places to eat- and most places only take cash.
The lake levels were low but the water was warm. We were able to take the kayak out, and it was a fun and beautiful trip.
We had a very nice, relaxing time. The home was clean and the lake was picturesque. This was a great place to spend our family's first vacation with our little girl.
What a great relaxing place for families. The layout gave us the perfect space between child and adult vacation fun. The kids had their space and we had ours. I was always able to well supervise the kids because I could see everywhere from in or outside of the home. We will be visiting again.
Wow! Nothing less than wonderful. I've visited Port Austin since I was a child. But, this visit was amazing. Clean, convenient, nice people, even the light switches were clearly marked! What a great vacation home! I'm looking forward to visiting next year already!
