This 1920 Beach Bungalow is centrally located to downtown dining and shopping. The community pool, tennis courts and the Carpinteria State Beach Park are all within walking distance of a few blocks (just 1 1/2 blocks to beach). Listen for the surf breaking when the swell is up. Enjoy beautiful mountain and sunset views from the front porch. This Bungalow has the charm of an older home with wood floors and tile counters and is well cared for. You can spend a week here without once needing to drive anywhere. All your needs are provided for just 3 blocks from the house. The schoolyard across the street is perfect for the kids or a place to play with your dog. When it's time for the beach we have provided 2 surfboards and 2 boogie boards with towels and beach chairs for your use. Surf lessons can be arranged too. Carpinteria is one of the last remaining small California beach towns and is known for it's relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
Many restaurants are within walking distance of 2-3 blocks on the main street of town. Antique stores, grocery stores, etc. are there too. If you do want to explore further, beautiful Santa Barbara is only 15 minutes up the road and offers many options from museums, whale watching, harbor sight seeing, shopping, movies and excellent restaurants. The Santa Barbara Mission, the County Court House, and Lotus Land Botanical Gardens are some of the top destinations. Musical concerts at the County Bowl or local clubs like SoHo offer many choices too.
My sisters and a brother in law from New England came for my daughter's wedding and after the first two days decided they would come back to Patti and Don's "Same Time Next Year". Pretty radical decision by my staid Eastern siblings. Everything about Patti and Don's cottage had been anticipated and thought of including boogie boards, which we used and surf boards, which we didn't. The beds were very comf, the living room relaxing and well upholstered, the kitchen supplied with anything you could imagine. The laundry room came complete with detergent.... a personal delight was the outside shower with a door directly into the second bathroom. We experienced hotter than normal temperatures
(up to 100F) and yet the cottage seemed air conditioned by simply opening the front door and the Dutch door - what was most remarkable = no bugs or flying things. Our daily walks to the beach were enhanced with sand chairs and beach umbrellas. Truly our hosts have thought of everything. Both Patti and Don were extremely helpful and informative regarding where to go, where to eat (of note: Clementine's Steak House at the edge of town = the pies, the pies) and their tips on other places truly enhanced our "Carp -adventure" of five days. We look forward to coming back with great anticipation.
My family recently relocated from California to the midwest and we have been dying for a little California beach-side R&R. My family of four had a fantastic stay at 650 palm avenue. The owners, Patti and Don, provided a great turn key experience. The bungalow is very charming and exactly as advertised. My children, two and four, could not have asked for more with the beach just two blocks away, plenty of beach toys provided and a park just across the street. The neighborhood is very charming, quiet and central to all necessities and entertainment. Patti and Don's home, is perfect for families who wants to enjoy a beach gettaway.
Our stay at Don and Patti's Carpenteria bugalow was great and exactly as described and in the photos!. Their home is very close to the beach for evening walks and a short walk to the grocery store and downtown Carpenteria. We came to celebrate our daughter's UCSB graduation with our in-laws/ We had a peaceful stay away from the crowds near the UC campus and Santa Barbara. The unit was large enough and comfortable for us to read, visit and prepare meals together. Our young adult children had had enought room to spread out and connect to the internet and watch TV. It only took us 25 minutes to get to the graduation ceremony Sunday morning. After graduation we took family pictures in the front yard with the beautiful bird of paradise as background. The weather was perfect. Other than commute hour traffic from Santa Barbara, it was a seamless visit. We couldn't have asked for more. I recommend Palm Avenue Vaction rentals for any occasion.
We were so happy with this lovely house. We traveled with two small children and the house was perfect- great yard (back is all the way fenced), two playgrounds within walking distance (one right across the street), the beach is so close (easy walk), and there is plenty of room in the house to play. Everything we needed was there (just a heads-up- no microwave which was fine, but good to know!), the owners are very available, and the town is charming. We loved Parado Beach Grill- beautiful and amazing play space for the kids, the Santa Barbara zoo, and riding the Amtrak which goes right through town. A great family trip!
My husband and I decided to do a last minute getaway to Carpinteria with our two toddlers. Upon arrival, we were pleasantly greeted by the adorable beach house that looks like it's straight out of a Pottery Barn catalog. The front yard was perfect for our kids to play around in and there was also a cute patio on the side of the house with a barbecue and nice sized table for outdoor dining. The rooms, bathrooms and common areas were spacious and very comfortable. They also have boogie boards, surf boards, wagon, sand toys and more...so no need to bring your own.
If you're looking for a great place with tons of charm where you can ditch the car, relax, enjoy the beach and surrounding areas and do everything in close proximity by foot...this is the place for you!!
Our Family of 5 stayed here and had a great time. The house is in great condition and gave everyone their own space. The yard is very well kept and this includes a great patio for dining. The location can't be beat - 2 blocks to shops, 2 blocks to the beach. The best part is the beach stuff(boogie boards, chairs, sand toys and wagon) that comes with the rental. The outdoor shower is great for getting all the beach sand off you at the end of the day. We can't wait to go back!
Carpinteria is one of the last small towns along coastal California. Our house is located within easy walking distance of the beach, community pool and tennis courts, playground, stores and restaurants. You could spent a week here and not have to drive at all. If you do want to explore further into Santa Barbara then it is only 15 to 20 minutes north on the freeway.
Other Activities: shopping, kayaking, boating, wildlife viewing, basketball, horseshoes
