Awful, bad location, mildew smell

So many problems. First the location is on a busy, noisy street and the window in the front bedroom is paper thin. The Trains run at night several times and they are loud with their horns blaring. The floors were filthy - our feet got black dirt from day one. Coffee pot had moldy coffee in it, the counter top grill was greasy and uncleaned. Shelves were dusty. Pillows did not have real pillow cases on them -used musty smelling linens. The whirlpool tub did not work. The deck had several boards and nails sticking up which our children tripped on. They promised paper products and there wasn't enough toilet paper, no paper towels, no dish towel, no toaster, no dish liquid, no laundry detergent, no mixing bowls, no large salad bowl, not enough towels. All of these were promised in the ad but not there. Seating in dining area for 4 not 6 and no seating for 8 in the living area. Hornets nest under the outdoor table and a skunk living under the deck. The house smelled mildewy/moldy - we were expected to sleep in the basement as some of the beds are down there but no one dared. Plus they have no smoke detectors except one so why would you risk the safety of your children having them down there? No pullout queen in living area as promised. The stream bordering the property is really a concrete drainage ditch. The closets were packed with junk and dirty construction materials. They listed a garage - wasn't usable b/c it was stuffed with junk and storage and locked. The seals on many windows were broken. To use the word luxury was a stretch in this ad. When we complained or asked for things they did bring stuff but it ruined our whole vacation having to deal with it. We just wanted what was promised. Management told us we were Guinea Pigs on this new rental . Derrick was very nice but he handed it off to Dana who argued everything we told her (there are 6 chairs - no there wasn't, we have a smoke alarm system wired throughout, no they didn't, the floors were clean - not they were not) You get the picture. No customer service at all. I'm sure we have helped them fix the problems now for other guests but we had to pay the price. I would never recommend this place to anyone. Even if all else was fixed the location is not appealing for a vacation classification.
Owner's Response: These renters stayed for four nights. They even extended their original reservation. They called and asked for a few things which we brought over immediately. Most of their requests where items which were not listed as a part of the house. An additional table and chairs in the living room so they could play board games and beach chairs are examples. But, we were happy to try to accomodate them. On their final day there, they called and said they did not want to pay anything for staying at the property. At this point, they had a list of items they said were wrong with the property. I did not understand why we were hearing about problems at the end of their four day stay. Also, many things they said were wrong were never promised (ie, the garage is used as owner storage and is never mentioned or promised as a part of the property.) I tried to work with them but ultimately they said they wanted their stay to be free or they were going to write a bad review. They stayed the full time of their reservation and extension so I felt I would prefer to get a bad review from someone trying to get a free vacation than give in to the threats.
