Vacationing ill equipped and with the Roaches
Review Submitted: September 22, 2009
Date of Stay: September 2009
My daughter and her friends all stayed at a Hideaway Home in Las Vegas over Memorial Day and it was quite an experience. The home was nicely decorated, a little out there in some areas. The framed ads on the walls were unique to market his wife's expensive decorating talents; but then night fell and the roaches came out in armies. Large roaches scurrying across your sandaled feet while you played pool. An evening swim with these eight legged creatures was also a joy and they just kept coming. Course the evening swim with 10 people, house suppose to be equipped for 12, got us 7 towels for swimming and showering. We called the Proprietor and the next day he brought the bug man and basket of candy and wine, so thoughtful after our bug brigade party. The following day brought more disappointment when we couldn't find a toaster or a knife to cut the melon. When we asked the Proprietor he said it was a liability hazard.
We decided to go and tour the city, take the kids to the aquarium and come back and BBQ steaks. The restaurants were packed with holiday travelers and rude employees so we knew we would enjoy our stay in the house. We cooked our steaks on the outdoor BBQ for 1 1/2 before we had to move them to the inside oven. There was no propane in the BBQ. When we moved them to the oven, it was on foil on the racks, because the big kids couldn't play nicely with the cookie sheets, or broiler pans. Thank God our parents taught us to clean up our messes after we eat but once again...the proprietor didn't trust us with dish soap. So we had to go buy some before we could clean the dishes, needless to say that happened the next morning after a couple of bottles of wine. We crunched on dead cockroaches as we made our way to the kitchen. The kids were entertaining themselves with spaghetti strainers at the pool to evacuate the little bunches of critters swimming around.
Needless to say the house was ill equipped, no knifes, no towels, no toaster, no propane, no warning.
I wouldn't rent from these people again and I feel they owe us a "full refund" for the nightmare on Cabin whatever St in Las Vegas.
Owner's Response: We are dismayed to hear about the issues with the vacation rental property.
First, let us say that we responded quickly to the guest requests. Living in the desert brings challenges with the environment, including bugs. That's why we have pest control service every month and it happen to be the day before you check in. That is why you find couple dead bugs. However, we have a service, and as mentioned in her note we responded quickly, and with a small token, again as mentioned in the letter. We take service quite seriously as this is our business.
The request for a refund we are hearing about for the first time in this open letter. We would entertain a conversation regarding the payment if it is properly directed to us.
Finally, for all to know, every review up until now has been with the highest service rating, so again, while we don't dispute the cause for concern, we make certain that we maintain industry standards in all areas. As in any business, customer referrals are vital to our future.
