Wonderful Location: Welcome to Cloud Nine Vacation House and the wonderful Maine coast. We love the Kennebunks and our vacation house is close to everything. You can walk to Kennebunk's wonderful sandy beaches. Two of the most popular beaches in the area are 1 mile away. Gooch's Beach is the largest in town--a big sandy expanse with great waves for swimming, boogie boards and the most popular surfing spot in the area. Nearby is cozy and picturesque Mother's Beach, with a playground for the kids too. We provide free beach parking passes for our guests. These are the closest sandy beaches to town. There's golf right out the backyard (literally!). Kennebunkport's famous Dock Square and Kennebunk Lower Village is a 2-10 minute walk. Eat at All Day Breakfast (200 yards away) and sample all the great lunch and dinner choices within easy walking distance. The monastery with its lovely secluded riverfront walking trails is also an easy walk from our home. You can walk to Whale Watching excursion boat too!
Friendly and inviting: We love Maine and are proud to call the Kennebunk's home. We'll be happy to help you out with any vacation planning, including some insider tips on local favorites. We also can provide free beach passes for parking if you don't want to walk to the beach.
We ALWAYS welcome well-behaved pets too!
Oh, the beaches....
Cloud Nine Vacation House is on Route 9 in Kennebunk Lower Village, a short walk or ride to Kennebunkport Dock Square and the area's most popular sandy beaches. The three main beaches--beautiful and expansive Gooch's Beach, rocky Middle Beach, the very popular Mother's Beach are all just a mile away. It's a 15-20 minute walk down a beautiful country road, or a 2 minute drive and parking is usually never a problem. And we provide free beach passes. Plus there's some hidden gems very close by: Parson's Beach combines a beautiful river/march backside with the bold open ocean frontside. Shh...we're not supposed to tell people from away about Parson's Beach, as it's the locals favorite. It's less than a 5 minute drive. There's also popular hiking/walking/nature trails at Rachel Carson National Wildlife Refuge (5 minute drive) and Laudhold Farm and Marine Estuary (just 10 minutes). There's the old rail bridle path trail too.
We love pets, too
If you bring your pet, know that we have a big open back yard--it's private but there is no fencing. During peak summer months, dogs are allowed on the nearby sandy beaches before 8 a.m. and after 5:00 p.m. It's a great way to give you and your dog some exercise! We have a very friendly black pug named Milo, so we're animal lovers too.
In addition to the beaches, there's the lovely Bridle Path--7 miles of dog-friendly walking trails less than a 3 minute drive from the house. The bridle path meanders along the river, near the ocean and in marsh and forests. It's very special. This is good off-road bicycling trails too.
What's New for 2011
Cloud Nine Vacation House is a renovated barn, attached to our New Englander farm house. We live in the front part of the house and we share the same driveway. Your vacation house has its own private entrance and full use of the private and large back yard, with outdoor shower, picnic tables, grille, games and much more. We have bicycles, kayaks, canoe, boogie boards, skim boards and other beach gear available on a first come, first serve basis. We can also put you in touch with great local places to rent bikes or scooters. It's a great way to see around town.
New for Summer 2011! See the Kennebunks in classic style. We offer each visiting guest a 30-minute tour in one of our amazing classic cars--from the 1940s to the 1960s. Our vintage American chrome land yachts are a great way to see and be seen to help you get oriented to the Kennebunks.
Some Upgrades and The Cloud Nine Challenge!
We listened carefully to the feedback of our wonderful guests last season, and have added several new upgrades for Summer 2011: a brand new kitchen with stainless appliances and granite countertop, new climate control system lets you take the edge of those occasional chilly nights. We have more outside seating choices. For kids of all ages, we added a new flat screen TV and dozens of popular movies DVDs. We offer free wireless too (though try to stay unplugged and unwind when you're with us!). We added more furniture too--two new chairs, one up and one down. We've also added to our collection of Maine memoribilia.
And we still have our annual Summer Challenge. Since 1977, our family has had a Labarynth Game. It's a game of skill and luck moving a small steel ball over a table top obstacle course. The top score is 60. But in 35 years, our best house score is still just 38. Can you beat it??? We have a free lobster at the Clam Shack for the first one who can!
We have a winner!
***NEWSFLASH****
For many years now, we've been inviting guests to take the Labryinth Game challenge--a good old fashioned wooden game. Our family high score was set back in 1977 and no-one has ever been able to beat it. Until now. Congratulations to our guest Dan O. from Montreal who smashed the 34-year-record and has set a new bar for future guests (including himself when he returns next summer!). The score to beat is now 43. The lobster awaits the winner!
