On-site care:
A dedicated caretaker and property manager welcomes renter to Blue Trilby Cottage. When renters arrive, he'll come around to show you the house and its amenities as well as provide information about Blue Hill and the area and give you a key. He is the person to call for everything! I would love to hear from you during your stay. Please give me a call to let me know how everything is going (Caroline Lechaux). I’d appreciate you providing feedback at the end of your stay so that I can improve on subsequent stays at Blue Trilby Cottage.
The next door neighbors have a key as well and know most everything about the cottage. All in all, this makes for a personalized stay of the renter requires it. However, a renter's privacy will never be infringed upon.
The Setting:
Blue Trilby Cottage is located in the heart of one of Maine's most charming seaside villages, close to Bar Harbor and Mount Desert Island. Blue Hill bustles with activity in the summer and fall, when avid sailors and fishermen converge to enjoy the rocky shoreline that is peppered with lovely sandy coves and rocky inlets that offer challenges as well as exceptional views from sea and land alike.
Guests to the charming cottage named after the late, beloved Fox Terrier, Trilby, will enjoy being able to experience all of Blue Hill's charms by foot. Blue Hill has many restaurants, art galleries and shops, as well as cultural activities that occur several times a week during the season. Kniesel Hall is a healthy walk away up Pleasant Street, where the cottage Blue Trilby Cottage is located.
The Cottage :
A complete renovation of the cottage was completed in July 2009. It is easy to spot on Pleasant Street as it has a colorful flower bed in front of the porch that adorns the white cottage with blue trim. A side lawn slopes down to a stream that one can admire from the deck that is accessed from both the living room and the dining-kitchen area. Inside, a large double living room, leads to double doors leading to a open barn-ceiling dining-kitchen space that opens onto a deck overlooking a gurgling brook that leads to the Blue Hill Harbor. A sitting room with a TV adjoins the living room via double glass doors. The entire space is designed to be open and airy so as to invite sunshine into this cheerful Victorian cottage. The cottage is indeed, bathed in light, redolent of charm and grace and typically 'Maine'. Furnished with antiques and locally-sourced furniture, painted by area decorators and artists, the cottage captivates while providing a comfortable place to spend time.
