We offer clean, comfortable, yet affordable, accommodations for visitors who prefer to spend more of their time (and money) enjoying the sights of Maui than on lavish resorts. Our convenient location has shopping, beaches, parks, restaurants and deli's all within walking distance. Our studio has just been completely refurnished; a cozy arrangement that sleeps 2. It features a private full bathroom, completely renovated with beautiful new tiled walk in shower, tiled floor, new vanity, toilet, lighting etc. with towels, linens etc.. New pictures of the studio are posted.
It has a kitchenette for light cooking with a medium sized refrigerator, microwave, 2 burner plate stove, coffee maker, convection/toaster oven, blender, etc.
The studio features a new very comfortable Sealy Posturpedic Queen-sized firm bed.
We also provide basic beach equipment:- beach towels, mats, umbrellas, beach chairs and even coolers.
After having owned and operated a large B&B in Northern California for many years I decided to move to Maui. Kihei is the perfect spot for a lifestyle of mixing easy living with spectacular scenery and outdoor activities. The studio is the perfect way for me to offer an affordable vacation to others who appreciate the beauty of Maui. Those who have stayed in the studio through the years have been very pleased. Many have returned again and again and referred their friends to this economical vacation choice.
The Owner purchased this studio in 1988
The Island Surf is in the heart of Maui's vacation paradise. Beautiful world class beaches and parks stretch all along Maui's south shore. Hawaii's climate in Kihei is hard to beat with most days balmy and warm. Following is the link or URL to The Island Surf Home Page where you can find additional information about The Island Surf and view additional pictures of the building and surrounding area.
The studio has all the essentials you need for a great vacation at an affordable price. You can enjoy the beach or any of the many other island activities during the day and still come home to a very nice place in the evening.
I was very impressed with Cloy's amazing studio rental in Kihei...cannot beat the price, quality, and location of the rental. Cloy is very friendly and accommodating. His rental is fully equipped with everything one may need in the studio for sleeping, cooking, and beach accessories with plenty of clean towels. I could live there! Would if I could. Rental has a coffee maker, microwave, toaster oven, two burner cooker, rice cooker, and fridge for making easy meals. Only had to visit a restaurant twice...my favorite is Antonio's nearby...the eggplant Parmesan is killer! TV is great for catching up on daily local and world news before heading to the beach...includes DVD player. Reality check while in paradise. The bldg management is very helpful and friendly as well. No problem finding free parking in the condo lot. Hilarious alarm clock: roosters and Magpies woke me each morning and it was refreshing to hear nature outside my door. Great view of Haleakala volcano outside my balcony. Pool? Who needs a pool when you're a block from the ocean? Never used it...nor the bbq...but works well for anyone needing these amenities. Walk to plenty of shops and restaurants a block away. Further travel may require one to drive or take local transit. Room size is small but accommodating for one or two guests. Cloy has two neat cats that remain in his condo for those with feline allergies...I do...and had no problem. Hope Cloy has his rental available for my next visit to Maui.
Mahalo Cloy. Mele Kalikimaka...and Happy New Year. 12/14-23.
My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon. This was the best deal and value for our money by far! The owner Cloy is very friendly and available, and takes great care in stocking this room up for everything you might need! Great location, and everything really is within walking distance, but I definitely recommend getting a car if you want to explore. I loved having the beach accessories to take with us. The bathroom was amazing and the kitchenette was easy to use. The beach across the street was nice, but we found ourselves heading father south to Kamaole beach 2 and 3. We really loved staying here, and were very sad to leave as it had started to feel like home. We will definitely be back and have told many people about this gem of a property. We knew going into this vacation planning, that we didn't want to spend a bunch of money on amenities that we didn't plan on using, so this was a perfect fit for us. We swam in the pool once, but never got to use the BBQ patio, but love that they had one. You will love this property :)
My husband and I just stayed here for a week after a friend's wedding. It was exactly what we needed for the price. It is a studio apartment facing the mountain in a building directly across from the beach. The apartment was small but clean, and had everything we needed for preparing small meals and heading to the beach for the day. The bathroom was very nice with a large walk-in shower. My only gripe was the bed. It was small and very springy, so every time I moved I disturbed my husband. I liked how there was no cleaning fee as long as we kept things tidy.
We did not rent a car and used the bus and our feet to explore the beaches around Kihei. The condo is very close to shopping and dining and 3 beautiful beaches. You can see the ocean from the small 2nd floor pool. We didn't swim in it but it looked nice.
The owner was very responsive in answering our questions and very friendly the two times we saw him in the hall.
We would stay here again in a heartbeat. You can't beat the value.
My husband and I, who are retired teachers in our 50's, stayed in this studio for 10 days and couldn't believe our luck in finding such a clean, comfortable apartment at such a great price. Everything we needed was provided: a big parking lot for our rental, coolers, beach mats, beach chairs and beach towels, free WiFi, travel books and paperbacks, to mention a few things. We enjoyed the 2nd floor pool area after busy days out snorkeling or hiking. Taking the road to Hana and going up to Haleakala National Park were almost as special as finding the many Happy Hours and great food locations which are within a block or two. (Try the Tiki Lounge for pizza or Lulu's for $2 Steinlagers!) The beach across the street was perfect for learning to paddle board, but we were really impressed with the wonderful snorkeling along the beautiful south shore beaches. Thanks to the owner for his helpfulness and for providing such a great little place in a great location! We look forward to our next stay!
I stayed here August 2011. It is a small bedroom with a bathroom. Owner has added a fridge, hot plate and toaster oven to work as a kitchen (I never used hotplates). For the price I couldn't ask for anything more, it offers more then a hotel and has a cheaper rate as well. Don't expect a 5* resort, you get what you pay for. I would definatley stay here again.
Room was clean but dated. Close to all amenities, large parking lot with free parking available and owner lives right next door, in case there is a problem.
Not appropriate for families or more then 2 people. Free WiFi is always available and fast, TV works well and owner even provides beach accessories. AC is installed in window but Kihei is quite breezy is August and we were okay just leaving the window open.
My wife and I stayed in this excellent studio for a week in Nov. 2010. It's the perfect choice for one or two people who want to go to Maui to enjoy the outside life and are not looking to spend money on a spiffy place to stay but want a clean, comfortable room with a kitchenette.
It is a very clean, very comfortable, very quiet room. The kitchen area has a half-sized fridge, two-burner hotplate, microwave and toaster oven. It has all the cookware you'd need to use all that, plus a blender, coffee maker and rice cooker. All are clean and working as is the bathroom. The linens are also all clean and not worn in the least. There is also some beach stuff like chairs and umbrellas and a couple of coolers.
The unit is across the street from a giant park on the ocean, a one-block walk from a great beach and within a couple of blocks of a ton of restaurants, shops, bars, surf lesson places and the supermarket. In short, if you want to be staying in town, this is where you want to be. And because you're going to Maui, you're going to spend the vast majority of your time outside (I hope) so you don't need a lot of space inside.
A word about the building: It looks like it might be the kind of place where a lot of younger people might live and party but that's not the case. It's very quiet and clean so, again, another great plus!
Also, the owner of the unit, who lives next door, has a cat that often greets you outside on the public walkway in the morning. Say hi to Louie for us!
