Nearest Airport: Knock at 50 Miles
Nearest Beach: beach at 3 Miles
Car: necessary
The cottage is approx. 2.1/2 miles from Achill Sound village, where there are restaurants and shopping facilities. The area is ideal for walking, cycling and fishing. There is a golf course at Keel, Achill Island and others at Mulranny and Westport. There are many historical sites to be explored on Achill Island plus a wealth of sandy beaches especially the very picturesque Keem Bay - not to be missed. A trip to Minaun Heights is another highlight, from where on a clear day, Clew Bay with its many islands can be seen. A trip to Croagh Patrick is another worthwhile option.

Shore Cottage is a cosy quiet place to chill out after running the Achill Half Marathon! The weather in Achill can be described as "Four Seasons in one hour" but in this cottage you can either sit out in the garden watching the crows and sea birds getting their lunch or dinner whilst drinking a glass of something nice or sit inside around the peat fire drinking a glass of something else nice! Listening to Val Doonican (Paddy McGinty's Goat) or Jim Reeves on the record player for many a nostalgic moment. The views across Achill Sound at the new Achill Bridge that looks like a set of whale bones fills the left side of the brain with images to remember. All in all a lovely place to spend a week or two. My wife and I stayed in the Shore cottage last year as our home base for touring the western coast. We could not have been happier with the choice. Easy trips to several cities, many great historical sites, and of course the nature attractions of Achill itself.

This is a wonderful, cosy little cottage in a beautiful location - not only is it perfectly situated for exploring Achill Island, but you can easily drive to sites as far afield as Sligo from here as well. There is so much to explore, of a scenic or historic interest, and the cottage's charming bric-a-brac - including a record player and LPs from the 60s to the 80s - adds to the feel of a 'home from home'. My abiding memory is of the perfect peace of this shoreside idyll....

The sound of silence

The setting is outstanding on the shore of the sound.

The views are fantastic (we were lucky with blue skies and sun).

The silence, apart from birds and sheep, was wonderful.

Lots to explore locally and incredible beeches on Achill.

A few good eating places - especially for freshly caught fish!
