Pinecrest Lake :
Pinecrest Lake is a gorgeous fishing and swimming lake. It offers a marina with rental boats, 3 swimming beaches, hikes, rental bikes, an art gallery, a beach-side snack shack, a coffee kiosk, restaurant, sports store for fishing gear, etc., and a small store with groceries and hardware items all in a rustic setting. And if you decide a movie is in order for the evening, Pinecrest Lake has an outdoor amphitheater (set next to the lake) which shows first-run movies after sunset. The kids love that!
If you're interested in some good restaurants, about 3 minutes away you'll find La Morenita for wonderful Mexican food or Mia's which serves great gourmet pizzas and pasta dishes. Eight minutes away at Pinecrest Lake, you'll find a charming landmark rustic restaurant called The Steam Donkey. Fifteen minutes down the hill to Mi Wuk, you'll find Andy's Mountain Grill and Deli for some of the best sandwiches anywhere. Andy is known for making his own burger buns for his gourmet burgers and other creative sandwiches, freshly-cut potatoes for his fries, great garlic ketchup, a variety of fabulous homemade cinnamon rolls, and imported beverages. Up the hill about ten minutes away, you'll find Strawberry Lodge for a meal and a game of pool. The restaurant has a view of a beautiful stream (a Stanislaus River tributary), and the old-time general store is across the street. Most of these places offer outdoor seating also.
