Photos and Description of the Peconic vacation cottage rental
House, 2 Bedrooms, 1.5 Bathrooms, Sleeps 5

Completely renovated and transformed at the end of 2007, this uncommonly stylish and modern beach house is amazingly private, with stunning panoramic and distant southwesterly views of Long Island Sound and the coast. Surrounded by protected sand dunes, the 100-year-old house features unimpeded views of the long sandy beach and high bluffs. Secluded at the end of an unpaved road, in a laid back and friendly private beach community in Peconic on the North Fork of Long Island, the cottage is perfect for swimming in the Sound, long walks on the beach, and dining on the large deck overlooking nothing but water, beach and the gentle curve of the coast. Sunsets are spectacular. Inside the house features contemporary and mid-century modern furnishings, large picture windows, new hardwood floors, original art, and high ceilings.

Wonderful

Review Submitted: January 1, 2012 Date of Stay: November 2011
This is an absolutely wonderful home. It's cute, clean and well maintained. The location is fantastic, very private, directly on the beach, and very close to great North Fork towns, restaurants, and wineries. One or two short, easy ferry rides and you can easily visit Shelter Island and the Hamptons as well. It's a perfect base for a visit to the eastern end of Long Island. And Neil, the owner, is truly a very kind person, and always quick to respond if ever needed. We would most certainly rent this home again. It was a wonderful experience and we had a great time while we were there.

Spectacular

Review Submitted: November 13, 2011 Date of Stay: October 2011
My family and I have just spent the latter half of our NY stay in "Sound Dunes" after being in the City for a week. You know how most places fail to live up to the expectations created by photos and write-ups? Well Sound Dunes is EXACTLY as good as it looks on this site. For us ai has been the perfect place to wind down and relax. The house itself has a crisp, clean feel yet maintains a comforting warmth. The location is perfect - a hop skip and a jump to the quiet beach. In fact, we never saw another soul, even when we went for a few lovely walks down the way. There were two rainy days where we did not venture out farther than the beach (come rain, shine or pitch-black night the girls loved that beach!) but that provided a good excuse to just sit back, watch the fire and read (or play dinosaurs if you are a four year old). In the local vicinity there are plenty of good places to eat and wander. We stayed in and cooked a few times in the very good little kitchen. If you fancy a run the beach is perfect but the local back roads are very pretty as well. Trips out to Orient Point and over to Shelter Island are highly recommended if you like wandering, as we do. Neil (the owner) is an excellent communicator and all his advice was spot-on. All-in-all just a spectacular place to which we will undoubtedly return. A fitting end to a fantastic vacation.

Paradise on the North Fork

Review Submitted: June 2, 2011 Date of Stay: May 2010
My husband and I stayed in this charming cottage last year for a week for our 10 year wedding anniversary and it could not have been more perfect. The location is heaven on earth--both private and convenient to all! Anyone wanting peace and quiet from the city will love Peconic and especially this house. We took our Lab and he loved being able to romp and swim every day. My personal fave was the outdoor shower. I never showered inside!
Neil, the owner was extremely helpful and available whenever we needed him. The house had anything and everything including a stocked pantry. We didn't go to any restaurants but rather cooked in each night, drank our local wines and enjoyed the amazing sunsets and breezes.
We wanted to rent again this year but the season was booked unfortunately for us! We hope to visit this magical place one day again soon. A year later and we are still remembering the time we spent.

Loved the house

Review Submitted: January 6, 2011 Date of Stay: November 2010
We stayed here for a week in November and it was very cozy, especially with the fireplace.
We enjoyed long afternoon walks along the beach, relaxing in front of the cozy fireplace afterwards and enjoying the beautiful views of the water. In fact, we dubbed the view from the sofa 'the screensaver' because we've enjoyed sitting there so much, watching the water & the stormy sky.
Nothing else you need - except that the house provides you with all amenities you could ask for. It's meticulously kept and we loved the decor, which is a refreshing change from the frills you often find in houses & B&B's. Nice side effect of traveling in the fall: Nearly empty restaurants & tasting rooms at the wineries at that time of the year.

Neil, the owner, could not have been more helpful and responsive whenever we had questions. We will definitely stay here again.

Recommended for a chilled, relaxing break

Review Submitted: May 14, 2010 Date of Stay: May 2010
We booked our holiday in this house based on previous reviews and we weren't disappointed.
The house is nicely furnished, comfortable, clean, light and open with lovely views of the beach; the kitchen is well stocked.
Neil (the owner) was extremely prompt and helpful in responding to our questions, both before and during our stay. There was plenty of information provided on restaurants and local attractions. We visited a couple of wineries and took the ferry across to Shelter Island and then on to the South Fork and Montauk for a good day out.
We tried a couple of the recommended restaurants - the Love Lane Kitchen was particularly good. If you go out of season- we recommend that you check opening times of restaurants/shops. We visited early in May and found that some shops and restaurants in nearby Greenport were closed for a couple of days during the week.
We would definitely recommend the house and the Peconic area, there was plenty to do if you want to be busy, but if you want a relaxing holiday, this ticks all the boxes too.
