Photos and Description of the Peconic vacation cottage rental
2 BR/1.5 Baths (+ outdoor shower) with panoramic water views; sleeps 5

An uncommonly stylish and amazingly private modern beach house, with unrivaled panoramic views of Long Island Sound and the gentle curve of the coastline. Surrounded by protected sand dunes but no houses west along the beach – as far as the eye can see – this century-old, handsomely renovated house features massive picture windows, a two-level deck, and BBQ/fire pit. Your own, private 50-yard path leads directly to a secluded and serene private stretch of beach. Sunsets are spectacular.

The light and airy interior features contemporary and mid-century modern furnishings, gourmet kitchen, windows on all sides, sleek hardwood floors, fireplace, cathedral ceilings and original art throughout. Secluded at the end of an unpaved road, in a friendly, private beach community, the cottage is ideal for couples and small families to enjoy long walks on the beach; swimming in the Sound; dining, cocktails and sunning on the decks; biking; and excursions just minutes away to the North Fork’s famed wineries, seafood restaurants and farm stands.

Dog-friendly, but not available for weddings, parties, proms or group shares.

PARADISE IN THE PECONIC

THIS BEACH HOUSE IS AMAZING. WE (MYSELF, MY HUSBAND, OUR 12 YR. OLD SON, OUR 13 YR. OLD DAUGHTER AND OUR 2 DOGS) WERE LOOKING FOR A CLEAN HOUSE ON THE BEACH WHERE THE DOGS CAN RUN OFF THE LEASH AND WE CAN ALL BICYCLE AND ENJOY TIME TOGETHER. THIS PLACE EXCEEDED OUR EXPECTATIONS. THE OWNER, NEIL, IS SO HELPFUL. WE DID BRING OUR OWN LINENS BUT ALL WAS PROVIDED. THE VIEWS FROM THE HOUSE ARE SPECTACULAR. THE NEIGHBORHOOD IS SO FRIENDLY AND THE BEACH IS SO CLEAN. MY KIDS LOVED PLAYING ON THE BOULDERS. THE WEATHER WAS A LITTLE COLD BUT IT WAS STILL NICE. WE WOULD LOVE TO RETURN WHEN THE WEATHER IS A BIT WARMER. WE ONLY STAYED FOR TWO NIGHTS. WE DINED AT ELBOW'S EAST AND HAD DELICIOUS STEAK AND SEAFOOD. WE ENJOYED NEIGHBORING GREENPORT AND HAD HOME MADE ICE CREAM IN MATTITUCK AT MAGIC FOUNTAIN. NOW THAT I KNOW HOW BEAUTIFUL AND CLEAN THIS PLACE WAS, I WOULD DEFINITELY RETURN AND PLAN ON JUST HANGING OUT AT THE HOUSE AND COOKING A NICE FAMILY DINNER AND ENJOYING THE VIEWS.
THANK YOU NEIL SO MUCH. THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT WE NEEDED.

Wonderful

This is an absolutely wonderful home. It's cute, clean and well maintained. The location is fantastic, very private, directly on the beach, and very close to great North Fork towns, restaurants, and wineries. One or two short, easy ferry rides and you can easily visit Shelter Island and the Hamptons as well. It's a perfect base for a visit to the eastern end of Long Island. And Neil, the owner, is truly a very kind person, and always quick to respond if ever needed. We would most certainly rent this home again. It was a wonderful experience and we had a great time while we were there.

Spectacular

My family and I have just spent the latter half of our NY stay in "Sound Dunes" after being in the City for a week. You know how most places fail to live up to the expectations created by photos and write-ups? Well Sound Dunes is EXACTLY as good as it looks on this site. For us ai has been the perfect place to wind down and relax. The house itself has a crisp, clean feel yet maintains a comforting warmth. The location is perfect - a hop skip and a jump to the quiet beach. In fact, we never saw another soul, even when we went for a few lovely walks down the way. There were two rainy days where we did not venture out farther than the beach (come rain, shine or pitch-black night the girls loved that beach!) but that provided a good excuse to just sit back, watch the fire and read (or play dinosaurs if you are a four year old). In the local vicinity there are plenty of good places to eat and wander. We stayed in and cooked a few times in the very good little kitchen. If you fancy a run the beach is perfect but the local back roads are very pretty as well. Trips out to Orient Point and over to Shelter Island are highly recommended if you like wandering, as we do. Neil (the owner) is an excellent communicator and all his advice was spot-on. All-in-all just a spectacular place to which we will undoubtedly return. A fitting end to a fantastic vacation.

Paradise on the North Fork

My husband and I stayed in this charming cottage last year for a week for our 10 year wedding anniversary and it could not have been more perfect. The location is heaven on earth--both private and convenient to all! Anyone wanting peace and quiet from the city will love Peconic and especially this house. We took our Lab and he loved being able to romp and swim every day. My personal fave was the outdoor shower. I never showered inside!
Neil, the owner was extremely helpful and available whenever we needed him. The house had anything and everything including a stocked pantry. We didn't go to any restaurants but rather cooked in each night, drank our local wines and enjoyed the amazing sunsets and breezes.
We wanted to rent again this year but the season was booked unfortunately for us! We hope to visit this magical place one day again soon. A year later and we are still remembering the time we spent.

Loved the house

5 of 5
Submitted: January 6, 2011 Stayed: November 2010
We stayed here for a week in November and it was very cozy, especially with the fireplace.
We enjoyed long afternoon walks along the beach, relaxing in front of the cozy fireplace afterwards and enjoying the beautiful views of the water. In fact, we dubbed the view from the sofa 'the screensaver' because we've enjoyed sitting there so much, watching the water & the stormy sky.
Nothing else you need - except that the house provides you with all amenities you could ask for. It's meticulously kept and we loved the decor, which is a refreshing change from the frills you often find in houses & B&B's. Nice side effect of traveling in the fall: Nearly empty restaurants & tasting rooms at the wineries at that time of the year.

Neil, the owner, could not have been more helpful and responsive whenever we had questions. We will definitely stay here again.
