About Snow Colbeck

My name is Snow and I manage the bookings at the Casa De las Palmas. I have been coming to this property for over 10 years when my parents first bought the land. As a family we have walked this beach and played in the waves for many years. My own children (now 8 & 11) have enjoyed the warm water and soft sand since they were babies. I love the stunning beach and the simplicity of Tulum. It is one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. When I am not on the beach I live in BC, Canada with my family enjoying the outdoors.

Why Snow Colbeck chose Tulum

Casa De Las Palmas is the first house my parents built. It captures the essence of Tulum - blending in with nature, soft lines, comfortable, and well-designed, with a gorgeous rooftop patio to capture the sunsets over the mangrove. If you want the luxury of your own house on the beach with the ease of great restaurants a short walk away this is the place. It has a magic feel to it.

What makes this house unique

This house is great for families and small groups. It is comfortable for 2 - 8 people. There is great foliage for privacy, beautiful sea views and breezes, a rooftop patio and a shaded area in front with palm trees and hammocks. You have your own shade palapas on the beach and loungers so you can relax and take in the beauty.

Delightful stay in Tulum

  • 5 of 5

This delightful beach house was everything we wanted for a family wedding weekend. The house has a relaxed ambience with the entire front opening onto the beach breezes. One bedroom downstairs was a little warm at night, the two bedrooms on the second floor both have french doors opening onto a filtered ocean view and lots of breeze. We used the third floor roof deck for sunset cocktails and early morning yoga.

Irma cooked a delicious dinner for us one night and stocked our kitchen for breakfasts throughout our stay. The house is in the middle of the beach hotels so we could walk up the beach or road to visit others in our party who were staying in hotels, but it seemed miles away in terms of privacy. Snow and Guy were very easy to work with and because Guy's office in on the property, we felt comfortable leaving the house open throughout the day. The house and site were immaculate, and the couple of items we requested were provided promptly and with a smile. We felt like we were guests in someone's home.

Enjoyed the ruins (with Rosalia, our guide from Toursbylocals), various Centoe, private yoga with Anastasia (from Sanara, the hotel next door), and especially the restaurant Posada Margherita.

WHO WOULD NOT LOVE THIS PLACE

  • 4 of 5

This is our second stay at Casa de Las Palmas. We love this Casa for many reasons. It gives you the best of both worlds - e.g. feels like a home but many choices of places to eat on your doorstep.. The villas sits on the sand of the beach, yet is protected from beach walkers/view by a few wind breaking shrubs.. so it is discretely tucked away, yet a few steps weaving around the bushes, and you are in the ocean. Nothing better than waking for sunrise and going for a morning dip. The villas itself is very functional and the layout and design is lovely. There is an amazing top floor private terrace with a curved sofa and day bed where one could have a sundowner drinks party and watch the sunset over the mangroves/jungle. Both of the bedrooms upstairs are very nicely decorated, and the doubles face the balcony and the seaview - they interconnect from the balcony which is a bonus if one has children in one of those rooms. One of the doubles, also has two more single beds - not the most comfy but more to do with where they are positioned at the back of the room - having said that totally fine for children or less fussy adults!. Each room has a shower and loo. The downstairs is a lovely hang out space with sliding doors and leading to an outdoor veranda toward the ocean that has windows that concertina open when its not too windy. There is another day bed on the sand, a swing, a hammock a BBQ and then through the shrubs onto the main beach are sun loungers with shade and so on. What I also love about CDLP is the privacy. It is perfect for a family or a group of friends. The downstairs has a further double bedroom and another bathroom. The kitchen has all the equipment you would need to cook and prepare food. The location is another bonus. It is equal distance from the top of tulum beach and the bottom near the biosphere national park. This part of the water is particularly nice and there are 3 good places to eat on your door step. Le Zebra which is a lovely place to hang out all day chatting and eating. I can't think of any negatives except that the water pressure upstairs is not as good as downstairs. The internet also works very well. When you wake up you hear lovely birdsong and the sound of the ocean. There are two other casa's on this plot of land.. all very different but well organised so that each property has its own path to the beach and and privacy. We love CDLP and hope to return again and again.

Tulum Bohemian Charm

  • 5 of 5

Four of us (two couples in our 40's) rented this house for five days in October. First a few notes about the house. The house is one of three on the property. There is one closer to the beach that we didn't get to see because it was occupied. The other was in the final stages of being constructed and is located behind this house (a little closer to the road). That said, the distance between the three houses is as much (or more) as the distance between houses on separate properties in Tulum. The advantage is that this is a great "compound" if you want to have a big family or friends event and need two or three houses. There is no downside in my opinion. We loved the "middle" position of this house. It is set back from the beach, yet has an unobstructed view of the beach (through some gorgeous palms). It feels really private - much more so than many houses in Tulum. The house itself has a wonderful "local" floorplan and style. Very "Gilligans Island". The livingroom and kitchen are small, but more than you need. The "half indoor" dining area was our favorite spot. Awesome rain or shine, and designed to handle either. The bedrooms are only accessible via an outside staircase, which might put some people off. It is a scramble if it is pouring, but we actually really enjoyed that feature (hence the "Bohemian" feeling). The rooftop deck is great, although it could use a little better lighting and some additional seating. Still, we hung out there several times. The property is immaculate as are the grounds. Each morning the ample sand between the house and the beach was meticulously raked by the gardener. Management was laid back yet very helpful. They arranged for what is arguably the best chef in Mexico to be our chef the entire time. Her name is Irma. Ask for her - you will be thrilled. Our traveling companions are professional (notable) chefs and they were both blown away by her cooking. We ended up hosting an impromptu party for seventeen of our friends who were down there with us (in different houses, for a birthday party), and Irma cooked a feast. Several others in the group were professional chefs and they all agreed that it was the best meal of the trip. They also agreed that our house was far better than the houses they were staying in. So not only do you have our recommendation, but you have seventeen others as well... It was a perfect trip, with perfect hosts (Katy is especially wonderful) and perfect food. It doesn't get any better than that.

Stunning Beach Heaven!

  • 5 of 5

This is a great (and rare) home on a beautiful Tulum beach. We were well cared for by the caretaker (Maria) and the owner was a breeze to work with.

The house is a 3 bedroom home (there are other rentals on the property as well) that makes maximum use of the outdoor beauty of the location (outdoor dining area, amazing rooftop lounge/deck area, lots of hammocks, an outdoor day bed and great BBQ).

The house iself is thoughtfully designed and appointed and each bedroom has an ensuite bathroom. However, there is virtually no reason to spend anytime in the house as there is so much outdoor space to meet any need or mood you may have.

If you are considering Tulum for the first time, this is a great place to rent. The beach is beautiful with many small boutique hotels north or south on the beach to explore. The house also comes with kayaks, boogie boards and plenty of palapas and beach lounge chairs.

One of the best kept secrets in Tulum!
