Photos and Description of the Santa Fe vacation cabin rental
twin beds in loft, queen bed down, sleeping sofa, bathroom, kitchen, dining area

Located in the mountains of the beautiful Pecos River Canyon, this cabin is surrounded by Santa Fe National forest, within a short drive/walk to the Pecos River for fishing and swimming and within a gated community of only three other homes. It has excellent privacy and is a wonderful retreat after a day of shopping, gallery hopping and sightseeing in Santa Fe or hiking, horse back riding and exploring in the recreational wilderness. Sit in the evenings on the deck and enjoy the crisp, clean air and sounds of nature. Kitchen has full refrigerator with small freezer, microwave, toaster oven, four burner propane cooktop with 2 two burner electric hotplates and coffee maker but no large oven. Bathroom has shower only. Please note that the access to the cabin is short (.01 mile from the state road) but steep, 10% - 18% grade with a switchback, and will require a four wheel drive, all wheel drive or at the very least a small front wheel drive vehicle. The cabin is generally open three seasons of the year and is closed after Thanksgiving until mid-March except by special arrangement.

Why Laurenn Barker chose Santa Fe

I bought this property because of the lovely secluded setting in the mountains, across from the Pecos River. Secluded though it is, it is still close to the cosmopolitan, artistic and historic city of Santa Fe.

What makes this cabin unique

This cabin offers many outdoor activities and is perfect for the environmentally oriented small family, couple or group. The views are beautiful from the hilltop and you can hear the river and birds in the evening, on the deck, by the fire pit or in the hammock under the trees. It is quaint and artistically rustic.

Absolutely fell in love with this place

My husband, our two children, and I were fortunate to stay at this quaint and charming cabin in the woods. It was one of the most special vacations we have enjoyed as a family. The rustle of the wind through the mountains and pines sounded similar to the ocean, but the peace and quiet was enveloping and transported me away from the pressures of the daily grind. I felt a true sense of calm while we were there. We could hear the river rushing below. We could see the stars at night. It was serene. Just a wonderful vacation spot. We hope to return.
Owner's Response: Thank you so much. I am so happy that you enjoyed the peace of the site and the quaintness of the cabin. I feel that it is really a special place and I love it when my visitors feel the same way.

Girls' Getaway

Girls' Getaway
5 of 5
Submitted: August 13, 2012 Stayed: July 2012
Two friends and I rented the cabin for a girls-only week in July. We liked the idea of getting away from computers and TV for a week, but didn't want to be too isolated or forego all modern conveniences. This cabin really fit the bill. It is cozy and comfortable, with just the right amount of rustic. The beds were comfortable and the bathroom had a good shower with plenty of hot water and water pressure. The kitchen was perfectly adequate for the amount of cooking we wanted to do and it had a decent-sized fridge. We spent most of our time outside on the deck or flagstone patio. Someone brought a small hummingbird feeder and in no time there was a constant stream of hummers at our doorstep. The stars at night were unbelievable.

The cabin's location was also perfect. Secluded in its own private pine forest, it was great for relaxing, but when we wanted more to do there were plenty of varied activities nearby. The Pueblo ruins at the nearby Pecos National Park were fascinating and several different guided tours are offered (check their website). We made advance reservations for a tour of the Forked Lightning Ranch House, which was once owned by Greer Garson and her husband and is now part of the Park. The scenery on the road up to Cowles is gorgeous and there are numerous places to hike and fish along it. Santa Fe was only 30 minutes or so away and in addition to the usual shopping, gallery exploring and dining there, we really enjoyed the Saturday morning Farmers' Market. We did another day trip to Las Vegas (New Mexico), which has interesting history,
architecture and a beautifully restored historic hotel, the Plaza.

All in all, the cabin provided the perfect spot for a fun, relaxing getaway that we'll long remember.

The rental logistics were extremely easy. The owner, Laurenn, always replied to email inquires very promptly and coordinating with the manager, Amanda, for check-in was simple. Amanda also called a couple of days into our stay to make sure everything was OK and see if we had any questions.

Perfect family getaway

What a perfect place to beat the heat and get in touch with all things natural. Located high in the tree line with nothing but pines and cedars as neighbors, it was exactly what we needed. The loft upstairs was great for the kids. Easy access to hiking, fishing and just general exploring plus a short and pretty drive into Santa Fe for the day. We didn't want to come home. We'll be back!
