The art and decor--Santa Fe emersion:
The dancing bears sculpture was created by Jinxie Hughes, a talented, eccentric Santa Fe character who came from big Texas oil money. These particular bears, in their bigger-than-life version were commissioned for the San Diego Zoo. You will enjoy the maquette.
The painting of the color drenched chilies has 'wall power' to use the phrase coined by a former Director of the National Gallery of Art. The painting could have been painted by Georgia O'Keeffe if the New Mexican artist icon had painted the New Mexico chile icon. If the chiles aren't to your taste, as my husband hypothesizes, they could have been created for a painting on velvet. Anyway, the truth is that Mark Miller, the famed chef of the original Coyote Cafe commissioned the painting and it was selected as the promotional poster for the first Wine and Chile festival in the mid-1980s. Whether you fall in love with it or not, it goes with the table!
The chief's blanket is a colorful artifact that dates back to the 1920s.
